'Same Kind of Different as Me': Film Review
In 2014, Paramount Pictures announced a film adaptation of the best-selling nonfiction book Same Kind of Different as Me: A Modern-Day Slave, an International Art Dealer, and the Unlikely Woman Who Bound Them Together. It told the real-life story of Ron Hall and Denver Moore, respectively a wealthy white Southern art dealer and a Louisiana-born African-American homeless man who became friends after meeting in a shelter at which Ron was volunteering with his wife Deborah. The film was supposed to be released in early 2016, then was pushed to early 2017 until Paramount dropped it and the Christian company Pure...

The film stars Academy Award nominee Greg Kinnear, Academy Award winner Renee Zellweger, Academy Award nominee Djimon Hounsou, and Academy Award winner Jon Voight.

In honor of the film’s message that acts of kindness can make a powerful difference, Pure Flix created an initiative for regional organizations around the country to host red carpet screening events. On October 18, 126 local red carpet events (resulting in sales of 75,000 tickets and showings on 410 screens) took place to benefit local communities and shelters where attendees got a first viewing of the film and were reminded they can make a difference in their communities through their own acts of kindness.

‘Boo 2!’ To Shut Down Expensive ‘Geostorm’ In Crowded Weekend – Box Office Preview
Image
For a second weekend in a row, a low-budget movie will take out an exorbitantly-budgeted one for the top spot. Lionsgate’s Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween, the sequel to last autumn’s surprise hit, is expected to make $20 million-$25 million in a crowded weekend that includes such wide entries as Warner Bros/Skydance Media’s $120M-plus disaster film Geostorm (some say that the movie is way over that figure), Universal/Working Title’s The Snowman, Sony/Black Label Media’s forest firefighter movie Only the Brave, and PureFlix/Paramount’s faith-based title Same Kind of Different as Me.

Similar to the same weekend last year, it’s a crowded frame because distributors vie to get a leg up on the weekend before Halloween as moviegoing generally calms down during that period with the exception of horror films, and Lionsgate has their Saw reboot Jigsaw opening then.

See the Power of Friendship in 'Same Kind of Different as Me' Trailer
"You're not a bad man, and I'm glad we're friends." Paramount has debuted the trailer for a drama called Same Kind of Different as Me, adapted from the memoirs of Denver Moore, Ron Hall & Lynn Vincent, about the lives of three people bound together by fate and friendship. The film stars Renée Zellweger in her first major role (aside from Bridget Jones's Baby) in years, Greg Kinnear, and Djimon Hounsou; along with Jon Voight, Olivia Holt, Ty Parker and others. This looks like an emotional, heartfelt story of friends and family, but some of it looks pretty bland and melodramatic. They're also dumping this during the Oscar season meaning it's not that great, but at least Djimon Hounsou looks exceptional. Give it a watch. Here's the first official trailer for Michael Carney's Same Kind of Different as Me, direct from YouTube: A modern-day slave, an international art dealer, and...

“I had another dream last night,” Zellweger says with a southern twang as the trailer opens, all but ensuring that whatever she saw in that dream will soon materialize in her waking life. And it does: Djimon Hounsou as a homeless man whose backstory and insights will surely be life-altering. Paramount Pictures Disputes Being a "Producer" of Renee Zellweger Film In Battle With Labor Guild
When is a Paramount Pictures film not really a Paramount Pictures production? The question might seem illogical on its face, but it's now one of supreme importance in an ongoing dispute over the unreleased film Same Kind of Different as Me, starring Renee Zellweger, based on the 2006 book co-authored by Ron Hall and Denver Moore of their friendship. In June 2015, The American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada sued the studio over the score to the film. Renee Zellweger Boards Religious Drama Same Kind Of Different As Me
After taking a break from acting for four years, Renee Zellweger is getting back in the game. Next year, we’ll see the actress in legal thriller The Whole Truth, alongside Keanu Reeves, and it looks like that project rekindled her fire for performance, as Deadline reports that Zellweger has also signed on to star in Paramount’s faith drama, Same Kind Of Different As Me.

The film is based on the 2006 bestselling novel by art dealer Ron Hall and drifter Denver Moore. The pair co-wrote the novel after they were introduced by Hall’s wife Deborah at a homeless shelter where the married couple volunteered. After they met, their lives were forever changed when they become fast friends.

Zellweger is set to play Deborah, who is described as being a kind and generous woman who sought to help those in need right up until her death. It sounds like bona fide tearjerking material,...

Samuel L. Jackson Is Same Kind Of Different As Us
Samuel L. Jackson gave a shot at playing a down-on-his-luck real life person in Resurrecting the Champ, the 2007 movie that barely anyone noticed as it came and went. Apparently Jackson won't stop until he gets some attention for this specific kind of role. He's signed on to star in Same Kind of Different as Me, based on a bestseller about an ex-con drifter who develops a friendship with a wealthy art dealer. Variety isn't giving many details beyond that, but Amazon reviews describe Jackson's character, Denver Moore, as "modern-day slave," who had worked as a sharecropper picking cotton outside of Forth Worth and eventually opted for a life of homelessness instead. Same Kind Of Samuel Jackson
Samuel Jackson has signed on to star in Same Kind of Different As Me, from the bestselling memoir by Ron Hall and Denver Moore. It's one of those deals where there's a production company and a script and a star before there's a studio or a budget. The screenwriters are Roderick and Bruce Taylor (The Brave One) and the producer is franchise king Ralph Winter (X-Men, Fantastic Four, pre-Abrams Star Trek), with Jackson also executive-producing.The book's subtitle is "a modern day slave, an international art dealer, and the unlikely woman who bound them together", which is a fairly handy nutshell version of the plot. Jackson's character will be Louisiana plantation worker, drifter and ex-con Denver Moore, while the role of his opposite number, toff Dallas art dealer Ron Hall, remains to be cast. Might we respectfully suggest Kevin Spacey, for a Negotiator reunion? ...
