DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn Doesn't Know Whether Wonder Woman And The Flash Are Active In The Dcu
Image
DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran may have announced a slate of Dcu projects at the start of 2023, but it's become apparent that they did so without a firm plan in place.

In fairness, that's not too different from Marvel Studios and the MCU, as Iron Man arrived in 2008 with only the vaguest hope of eventually releasing The Avengers (which followed four years later). Still, nearly three years after "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters" was unveiled, Gunn still doesn't appear sure about which characters are active in the Dcu.

Addressing what is and isn't canon from Peacemaker season 1, Gunn was asked whether Wonder Woman and The Flash (presumably not the Gal Gadot and Ezra Miller versions) are currently part of this shared world.

"Yeah, are they canon? I don’t know. We’ll have to wait and see," the Superman director stated. "I mean, they’ll exist eventually.

7 Years Have Passed Since That One Iris Quote Turned Grant Gustin’s ‘The Flash’ Into a Forever Meme
Image
The viral moment from the Grant Gustin starrer The Flash, where Iris West tells that both she and Barry were the Flash, is now seven years old. The ‘We Are The Flash’ meme went viral after the season 4 episode Mixed Signals, prompting fans to associate it with everyone from Batman to one’s coworkers and teammates.

The line was meant to be a call for teamwork from Iris West to Barry. She meant that they were supposed to share responsibilities as a couple and that their struggles were not just individual.

However, the line was taken as an unnecessarily cringeworthy moment, as Barry was the one with the actual superpowers and was saving the world.

The Viral ‘We Are the Flash’ Meme Even Got an Actor to Comment A still from The Flash | Credits: The CW

From referring to a lazy coworker taking credit during a group project at the...

James Gunn Clarifies Wonder Woman & The Flash's Dcu Canon Status
Image
The DC Universe has just received a major update related to where The Flash and Wonder Woman fall in its canon. Gal Gadot gave life to Diana Prince in the old Dceu movie timeline, with Ezra Miller playing Barry Allen. Reportedly, both actors will not return for the new Dcu, with Wonder Woman and The Flash recast for the franchise.

At the moment, there is no set project among DC's upcoming movies for The Flash to appear in, even though fans continue to ask for Arrowverse The Flash star Grant Gustin to play the Dcu's Flash. However, the situation recently shifted for Wonder Woman, who now has a movie being written by Supergirl's Ana Nogueira, a priority for the Dcu movie slate.

On Peacemaker The Official Podcast with James Gunn, the DC Universe's creative chief, Gunn, revealed that he does not know whether Wonder Woman and The Flash were...

Absolute Flash Origin Story Is So Wild, James Gunn Should Use It to Erase Ezra Miller as Dcu’s First Speedster
Image
Absolute Flash is a fresh take on DC‘s speedster in the Absolute Universe, as instead of Barry Allen, we have Wallace West as the holder of the title right from the start. But that’s not all, as this series makes West the fastest man alive through the death of the original Flash, that is, through Allen’s demise

But most importantly, the origin story of Wallace is the reason why James Gunn should bring the story of Absolute Flash to the Dcu. And in the process, erase the events of Ezra Miller‘s The Flash to start from scratch in this new cinematic universe.

Absolute Flash Has an Origin Story Worthy of James Gunn’s Dcu

Apart from the shocking and unexpected moments from the comics mentioned in the intro, the story of this new Flash starts as an Army brat who lives at the Fort Fox base with his father,...

Superman & Peacemaker Director James Gunn Explains "The Basics" Of Dcu Canon
Image
Ever since the announcement that James Gunn would be taking over as co-ceo of Warner Bros.' DC Studios, fans have wondered exactly what would and would not be considered part of the new Dcu canon moving forward.

Though a full reboot did seem like the most logical step, we'd soon learn that Gunn was still planning to forge ahead with a second season of Peacemaker, which was obviously part of the Dceu and even featured cameos from Justice League members such as Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and The Flash (Ezra Miller).

Further clouding the waters somewhat was the fact that Gunn also helmed the movie that Peacemaker was a spin-off of, The Suicide Squad.

Here's what Gunn had to say about the Dcu canon in a previous interview.

"Short answer: Only Creature Commandos forward is pure canon. For instance, Rick Flag Jr. was killed because we heard Rick Flag Sr.

Ben Affleck’s Favorite DC Scene Confirms He Understood Batman Better Than Zack Snyder
Image
Ben Affleck revealed his favorite scene from the Dceu as Batman, and it is not in any of Zack Snyder’s movies. Affleck began his tenure as the Caped Crusader in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and had a terrible time due to studio interference and mismanagement. His final appearance as Batman was in The Flash.

Affleck revealed that some of his favorite moments as Batman were in the Andy Muschietti-directed movie. He said that with a scene in The Flash, he finally figured out what the character was all about, something which he could not grasp in Zack Snyder’s movies (via Herald Sun).

Maybe my favorite scenes in terms of Batman and the interpretation of Batman that I have done were in the Flash movie. I hope they maintain the integrity of what we did because I thought it was great and really interesting – different, but...

James Gunn Says 'Peacemaker' Season 2 Will Feature More Connections to 'Superman'
Image
Peacemaker had a large presence at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, as the acclaimed HBO Max series is gearing up for the release of its second season in August. Now that James Gunn's Superman movie has finally hit theaters, fans can shift their attention to the next big project in the new DC Universe (Dcu) canon. While the first season of Peacemaker didn't have much of a universe to build on, this upcoming second season is filled with connections to James Gunn and Peter Safran's burgeoning continuity. Interestingly, the co-chairman of DC Studios took to the stage in Hall H to tease the possibility of more characters from Superman overlapping in the upcoming season.

While joking about getting Nathan Fillion to appear in as many Dcu projects as possible to make him wear his Guy Gardner wig, Gunn also provided a small tease, saying that "maybe there’s a couple...

‘Peacemaker’ Season 2: John Cena Fights Alternate Version of Himself in Trailer, New Opening Credits Have ‘Dirty Dancing’ Lift
Image
San Diego Comic Con got a healthy dose of peace on Saturday.

Star John Cena dressed up in full costume as his DC Universe character Peacemaker for the show’s Hall H panel. He was joined by showrunner and DC Studios co-president James Gunn and co-stars Frank Grillo, Jennifer Holland, Frank Grillo, Freddie Stroma, Steve Agee, Sol Rodriguez and Tim Meadows.

The panel kicked off by showing the new Season 2 trailer, which reveals that Cena’s Peacemaker travels through a portal to an alternate dimension where “the grass is greener.” Down on his luck and rejected by Holland’s Emilia Harcourt, Peacemaker runs away to a new universe, which causes inter-dimensional problems. Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr., head of the mysterious DC Universe company A.R.G.U.S., also searches for Peacemaker, who killed his son Rick Flag Jr. (played by Joel Kinnaman in “The Suicide Squad”).

The cast also discussed the “Peacemaker” opening credits,...

'Peacemaker' Season 2 Will Debut Earlier Than Normal on HBO Max
Image
James Gunn is already celebrating the successful release of Superman this summer, and up next is Season 2 of Peacemaker, which will look to bring John Cena’s Christopher Smith in line with the new Dcu hierarchy and smooth over the wrinkles caused by that Justice League cameo in Season 1. However, even before the series hits HBO Max, there has been a major change to the series that has pleased a lot of fans living on the East Coast.

The first season of Peacemaker, while hugely successful and one of several reasons why Warner Bros. Discovery would have been foolish to put the future of the Dcu in any hands other than Gunn’s, was annoying for one particular reason – its ridiculous release time of 3 a.m. Et. However, fans will not have to tank up on caffein to be the first to see Peacemaker’s new episodes as a new announcement has revealed a new,...

"You Can Cut Out [Him] F***ing Fish": Superman Director James Gunn Reveals Aquaman's Status In The Dcu
Image
Jason Momoa first played Arthur Curry in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. That cameo was followed by a proper debut in 2017's Justice League, and despite the movie's failings, Aquaman followed in 2018 and splashed down to a massive $1.1 billion worldwide.

The sequel was released in 2023, and while the final Dceu movie was more successful than the rest of that year's DC offerings, it still flopped with a disappointing $440 million global haul.

We're not sure what the plan for the King of Atlantis would have been had the Dceu stuck around, though Warner Bros. majorly dropped the ball by not properly adapting "Flashpoint" in The Flash (that would have seen Aquaman and Wonder Woman's respective kingdoms at war with each other). Chances are, he'd have been in the Crisis in Infinite Earths movie, at least.

Aquaman was the butt of many jokes in Peacemaker season 1, with Christopher Smith...

Video of Ezra Miller in a Dress Dancing Carefree at a Party Surfaces: What is Next For The Flash?
Image
Ezra Miller, once again, has pirouetted their way into the headlines, this time, quite literally. A new viral video shows the 32-year-old The Flash star dressed in a long, dark, lace-detailed gown and combat boots, twirling and dancing without a care at the Filming Italy Sardegna Festival.

It’s a clip so hypnotic in its audacity that it has both stunned and charmed the internet in equal measure. This bold, bohemian moment was captured just after Miller walked the red carpet in Santa Margherita di Pula on June 21, marking a rare public appearance following years of near invisibility.

Since 2022, their name has become synonymous with legal drama, burglary charges, public meltdowns, restraining orders, and enough controversy to fuel a Netflix docuseries. Yet here they were, spinning under the Sardinian stars, carefree as if the weight of those...

James Gunn Shares Bad News for Flash and Aquaman Fans in the Dcu
Image
The last time we saw major Dceu heroes on the big screen was with Ezra Miller’s Flash in the 2023 movie The Flash and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

While Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom did pretty well at the box office and became the biggest hit since the first Aquaman film, The Flash was a total flop. Critics didn’t like it, and fans were turned off by the controversies surrounding Ezra Miller.

By then, we already knew the Dceu was about to get rebooted into the new DC Universe (Dcu), and fans have been excited to see Superman kickstart this fresh start. The new Superman movie recently launched the live-action part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s Dcu plans.

But if you’re hoping to see Flash and Aquaman back in the new Dcu soon, you might want to be patient. James...

James Gunn Delivers Disappointing News About Flash and Aquaman’s Future in the Dcu
Image
The last time we saw Dceu superheroes Aquaman and Flash on the big screen was pretty recently. Ezra Miller played Flash in the 2023 movie The Flash, and Jason Momoa returned as Aquaman in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. While Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom did okay at the box office, actually the biggest success since the first Aquaman film, The Flash didn’t do well.

Critics didn’t like it, and it failed at the box office. One big reason for that was the controversy surrounding Ezra Miller, which hurt the movie’s reception a lot.

By that time, it was already clear the Dceu was about to be rebooted into something new: the Dcu. Fans have been excited to see Superman again, which recently kicked off the live-action part of James Gunn’s and Peter Safran’s fresh cinematic universe.

But if you’re hoping to see Aquaman or...

James Gunn Offers Dcu Update on Aquaman & The Flash Appearances
Image
It's been a special time for DC fans for the past week or so. Superman is soaring high in theaters at the moment, and it seems DC Studios is laying the groundwork to introduce Wonder Woman and Batman in the Dcu. That said, don't expect another pair of iconic heroes who recently got Dceu films to make their way to the new universe anytime soon.

DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn talked with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast about the future of the Dcu. With Superman dominating the box office, and several exciting projects like Supergirl and Clayface in the pipeline, the rebooted cinematic universe seems to be in good hands. However, when it comes to select heroes, it seems the company is prioritizing others first. Aquaman and The Flash, founding members of the Justice League, have not officially appeared in the Dcu yet. According to Gunn, this...

If you’ve seen “Superman” in theaters already, you might be itching for a bit more live action DC in your life, though maybe not in film form. That’s easy though, as TV’s Arrowverse still exists for you to relive.

Originally started on The CW — with a brief detour to CBS in the first season of “Supergirl” — superheroes including Superman, The Flash, Green Arrow and more existed on the small screen for years. So, if you’re looking to form your own ranking of live-action Man of Steel portrayals, you’ll definitely want to make a pit stop here.

Here’s where you can stream each of the series now.

The Sopranos Star on WB Not Wanting Him After His Superman Joke Is a Warning for David Corenswet
Image
Fans loved David Corenswet as the new Superman, but the iconic suit comes with its list of rules that one has to follow. And here’s a cautionary tale he might want to hear, straight from The Sopranos actor Tim Daly. The actor voiced Superman in the beloved Superman: The Animated Series, but when the follow-up show Justice League came around, he was nowhere to be seen.

Why? Well, it was all because of a joke that sounded funny in Daly’s head but sent Warner Bros. into a major panic. While being interviewed by Al Roker on Comic Book Central, the actor explained what it’s like voicing Superman, especially all the groans and grunts in fight scenes. Then he said:

Come to think of it, it’s a little disconcerting to think the children of America have a pretty good idea what I sound like in bed.

Superman North America Box Office Day 3: Crushes 4 DC Films’ Lifetime Collection In The Opening Weekend!

Superman North America Box Office: Beats 4 DC Films’ Domestic Hauls With Its Debut(Photo Credit –YouTube)

Superman is smashing records with its opening weekend collection, something expected from a tentpole comic book movie. The old DC struggled with their films, but James Gunn proves he knows this genre better. The David Corenswet-starrer superhero movie has surpassed the domestic hauls of four DC movies, including Jason Momoa’s Aquaman 2 and Ezra Miller’s The Flash. Keep scrolling for the deets.

The DC has been rebooted, and nothing is better than a Kal-El movie to begin this new era with. Clark Kent is undoubtedly one of the most popular superheroes worldwide, DC and Marvel combined. His powers are beyond imagination, and they are so cool. Over the years, several movies and TV shows have been made on this character, some failed and some succeeded. Gunn has surely nailed this new version of the DC superhero,...

That Time Nicolas Cage Was Almost Superman for Tim Burton

When I was but a humble Warner Bros. Studio tour guide in 2012, the entire department was gifted a rare treat: A trip to the studio archives. Shuttled to a nondescript airport hangar, we toured the most precious of WB artifacts, an elite few of which rotate on display at the lot’s museum.

The building resembled the warehouse at the end of “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” with rows and rows of boxed and filed treasures. My eyes darted furiously as if searching for the covenant. Drawers were labeled with legendary names: “Bette Davis” and “Errol Flynn.” A refrigerated room held a trove of “Gremlins.” We were told a bundle of walls was Monica’s apartment from “Friends.” A room was dedicated just to vehicles (“picture cars”), from Batmobiles to the Argo vessel — no, not that “Argo” — the one from the 1979 Jack the Ripper time travel adventure “Time After Time.

Wbd Boss David Zaslav Celebrates DC Win At The Box Office: “Superman Is Just The First Step”
Image
Despite Warner Bros. Discovery ultimately being split into two companies, CEO David Zaslav can celebrate a big win this weekend with DC Studios’ Superman.

Warner Bros. is reporting that the James Gunn-directed superhero film, Superman, is opening at $122M domestically and $217M globally.

It was Zaslav’s idea to emulate Disney-Marvel Studios and have a separate studio led by separate executives, James Gunn and Peter Safran, who co-run DC Studios.

It’s Safran’s biggest domestic opening as a producer and Gunn’s second biggest domestic opening, right behind Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Warner Bros. owns this year’s No. 1 and No. 3 openings with Minecraft and Superman, respectively.

When Zaslav arrived at Warner Bros., DC Studios was at a funk coming out of Covid. Though The Batman was a hit, other films, such as The Flash with Ezra Miller’s legal troubles and Aquaman 2, turned out to be box office duds.

Look Up! David Corenswet's 'Superman' Gets a Soaring New Statue From McFarlane Toys To Celebrate His Dcu Debut
Image
Superman is finally here. After a few long years of waiting, James Gunn's Dcu has arrived on the big screen. The marketing blitz has ended, but there are still a few fun surprises that companies like McFarlane Toys and Prime1Studio are dishing out to DC fans. Now, as David Corenswet’s Man of Steel protects Metropolis, these companies have debuted their latest Superman pieces.

McFarlane Toys has unearthed their newest Resin DC Direct statue based on Corenswet's Superman. The 1:6th scale piece stands at 13.87 inches tall, including the base, and brightly presents this beloved hero’s latest costume. Superman is in a hovering position with his poseable fabric cape flowing in the wind. The base features the Kingdom Come-inspired “S” emblem and the face sculpt shares a striking resemblance to Corenswet. This figure now joins a long list of cinematic heroes in McFarlane's Resin statue collection, which...

Superman 2025 Confirms Dcu’s First The Flash (And It’s Not Barry Allen)
Image
Superman 2025 secretly debuted the Dcu's very first Flash, and it was not Barry Allen. Fans may be familiar with DC Comics' Scarlet Speedster for his appearances in Zack Snyder's Dceu and the expansive CW Arrowverse (played by Ezra Miller and Grant Gustin in each respective franchise); however, since Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn took over DC's on-screen efforts, word on the character's return to TV or film has been mum.

That was until Superman's release in theaters, as the Dcu's debut film featured a subtle nod to the character, introducing a version of The Flash that fans have not seen in live-action for quite some time. This is exciting, as the David Corenswet blockbuster marks the first time the superspeed supe has been acknowledged by the franchise (outside of being seen dead in Creature Commandos) and could hint at bigger things to come.

During Superman's Hall of Justice sequences,...

James Gunn's Entire DC Universe Timeline Explained
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Spoilers for "Superman" to follow.

"Superman" is here and, Highfather willing, it's the beginning of a new DC Universe on film. James Gunn isn't just the movie's director, he's co-president of the new DC Studios with Peter Safran and is charged with assembling a DC Universe on film and television. The fate of "Superman" will determine the future of that Dcu and possibly parent studio Warner Bros'.

But there's messiness, because Warner Bros already spent a decade trying to make a cinematic universe out of the DC Comics world. That effort was called the DC Extended Universe. Gunn was involved back when the Dceu was still ongoing; he wrote-directed "The Suicide Squad" and created its TV spin-off, "Peacemaker."

Gunn has pretty consistently maintained that the Dcu is a fresh start, but it's not a clean break either. In a 2023 post on Threads,...

Former Arrowverse Star Reveals Role They Want in James Gunn's Dcu
Image
Former Arrowverse star Grant Gustin has revealed that there's only one role he wants to play in DC Studios chairmen James Gunn and Peter Safran's new cinematic universe. Gustin played Barry Allen in The CW's The Flash TV show from 2014 to 2023.

Gustin was a special guest at Fan Expo Denver over the July 4 weekend, where he took part in a Q&a with fans. One attendee filmed a hilarious exchange where a young fan asked Gustin about the possibility of joining Gunn and Safran's Dcu in the future.

"If James Gunn cast you in his Dcu, who would you want to play?" Gustin was asked, before shrugging and replying: "Flash!"

Gustin's response drew huge cheers from the audience and his fellow former Arrowverse cast members on stage, including Flash co-star Tom Cavanagh. Barry Allen was most recently played on the big screen by Ezra Miller for a 2023 movie, but...

Michael Cera Rejected 'Harry Potter' Role in 'Fantastic Beasts' Franchsie
Image
The Harry Potterfranchise is being rebooted by HBO for television, but the iconic property previously lived on thanks to the Fantastic Beasts film series. Despite featuring Eddie Redmayne, fresh off his Best Actor Oscar win, Fantastic Beasts failed to get off the ground after the three movies got increasingly poor reviews. However, an alternate reality would have seen The Phoenician Scheme star Michael Cera featured in the Harry Potter offshoot as a lead.

During an interview with Louis Theroux, Michael Cera revealed that he declined to engage in talks to star in the Harry Potter spin-off franchise Fantastic Beasts. He does not reveal what role he was up for, but it is possible that it was one of the main characters. Cera claims it was around a six-year commitment, so it could have been for Newt Scamander (Redmayne) himself. Other possibilities include Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler) and Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller...

Ezra Miller is slowly making a comeback to Hollywood after facing serious accusations in 2022. These claims included harassment and grooming, which caused a lot of controversy and legal trouble for the actor.

Recently, Miller appeared publicly for the first time in two years at the Filming Italy Sardegna Festival in Cagliari, Italy. There, they gave an unusual interview where they talked about their return to the movie business and their future plans.

Their first step back was a brief visit to the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in May. At that event, Miller quickly ran past reporters without stopping for questions. They later explained that their main reason for being there was to support Lynne Ramsey, a close friend and director of the film We Need to Talk About Kevin from 2011.

Ezra Miller Plots Hollywood Comeback in Strange and Bizarre New Interview
Image
Ezra Miller is trying to return to the spotlight after a long break from Hollywood and a string of serious accusations in 2022. These included reports of harassment, grooming, and other troubling behavior that led to major backlash and legal issues.

Now, for the first time in years, Miller is back in front of cameras. They appeared at the Filming Italy Sardegna Festival on June 19 in Cagliari, Italy. According to a local news outlet, they also gave an unusual interview during the event, speaking about their return to the film world and what might come next.

Their comeback began in May when they briefly showed up at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. But instead of stopping for interviews, Miller sprinted past the press line on the red carpet. When asked about that strange moment, Miller said they were only there to support director Lynne Ramsey, a close friend who had directed them...

How To Watch The Fantastic Beasts Movies In Order
Image
The three "Fantastic Beasts" movies, all directed by David Yates and written (or co-written) by the disreputable author J.K. Rowling, serve as prequels to the eight extant Harry Potter movies.

The Harry Potter series takes place at a remote British boarding school for witch-kids and wizard-children, but it is set in the present day; while Harry and his pals learn spells and fight mystical creatures, the outside world of ordinary humans continues in its usual fashion, unperturbed. Wizards pejoratively refer to ordinary people as Muggles, and their magical machinations are kept hidden from prying human eyes.

Meanwhile, the "Beasts" films are set in 1926, 1927, and 1932, long before Harry Potter was born. They star the nerdy Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), a magizoologist who studies and cares for a menagerie of, well, fantastic beasts that only wizards know about. The movies take place in America, and come to involve a dangerous wizard criminal named Grindelwald,...

Ezra Miller Signals “Tentative” Hollywood Return After Surviving Personal “Abyss”
Image
Ezra Miller has talked of a possible return to Hollywood after facing controversial allegations in 2022.

They told the Italian outlet Lo Speciale Giornale, while attending this year’s Filming Italy Sardegna Festival 2025, that a “tentative” return to the film industry was possible. Miller added they were working with director Lynne Ramsay after attending the Cannes Film Festival in May to support the premiere of her film Die My Love.

“I came to Cannes to support one of my closest friends in the world, who’s Lynne Ramsay, who I think is one of the greatest living filmmakers. I’m working with her, again, that will likely be the first thing I do, a film that her and I are writing together,” Miller revealed in the video interview that was posted to Lo Speciale Giornale‘s YouTube account.

They worked with Ramsay on her 2011 film We Need to Talk About Kevin.

The Flash Star Ezra Miller Is Planning "Tentative" Hollywood Comeback Following Serious Allegations
Image
The Flash star Ezra Miller's career was completely derailed in the build-up to the movie's release after making headlines for a number of alleged incidents, including disorderly conduct, assault, harassment and burglary.

The most series accusations involved child endangerment and grooming, with a temporary protection order against Miller being issued at the request of the parents of 18-year-old activist Tokata Iron Eyes. The actor did release a statement taking responsibility for their actions while promising to get the help they need, but not everyone was buying it, and for many, Miller crossed a few too many lines to earn a second chance.

Last August, we learned that Tokata’s father, Chase Iron Eyes, had withdrawn the complaint after claiming that his initial belief was based on a story that has since been recanted. The statement was met with some scepticism, but there were those who felt that it was...

If James Gunn Wants It, These 5 Actresses Can Replace Ezra Miller as DC’s First Gender-swapped Flash
Image
Will James Gunn make a bold move with Barry Allen, aka the Flash? Gunn would love to bring more female superheroes into his DC Universe, and the Flash is one of the central characters who could potentially be gender-swapped in the new Dcu.

There’s no doubt that such a decision would invite a whole lot more trouble for Gunn, possibly even more than the backlash DC faced over Ezra Miller’s The Flash in 2023.

Still, there’s a small chance Gunn could make this work with the right approach. A few actresses come to mind who could step into the role and replace Ezra Miller—or Grant Gustin—as the new Flash in the Dcu. Here are five actresses who could convincingly take on the mantle of “Barbara” Allen.

Ezra Miller is working on a comeback with Die, My Love director Lynne Ramsay
Ezra Miller
If anyone has an uphill battle back into the spotlight, it’s Ezra Miller. Miller has almost far too many controversies, arrests and downright odd behavior to list here (might we suggest this Wtf Happened to This Celebrity?! episode for a refresher?), but when there’s a rap sheet that includes choking, grooming, burglary, and demanding that Susan Sarandon bow at his altar, how can one redeem themselves in the eye of the public? And even if we don’t take all the private issues into account, professionally, Miller is tied to one of the most notable box office bombs in recent memory after Warner Bros. tried all they could to build hype.

Despite everything that has happened, the star of The Flash is attempting to make a comeback. According to Variety, Ezra Miller, who has been lying low since the release of the DC film, showed up in support...

Ezra Miller Says Return to Hollywood at Cannes Was ‘Tough Re-Entry Point,’ Will Co-Write Lynne Ramsay’s Vampire Movie
Image
Ezra Miller says their return to Hollywood has been “tough” after the numerous allegations against them. Miller, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, was accused of abusing two children — one who was 12 at the time the alleged abuse started, and another who was 12 at the time allegations were made. However, no criminal charges were filed against Miller.

Miller issued an apology statement in 2022 and announced they were seeking mental health treatment. After a harassment order filed by one of the children’s parents was lifted in 2023, Miller shared they are doing their “best” to “preserve their own wellness” while working to “reverse the collateral damage” of the accusations, claiming they had been “unjustly and directly targeted.”

Miller most recently led “The Flash,” released in 2023 by Warner Bros. Discovery, with Miller appearing at the film’s premiere.

After breaking out at Cannes with films like “Afterschool” and “We Need to Talk About Kevin,...

Ezra Miller Eyes ‘Tentative’ Hollywood Return, Writing New Film With Lynne Ramsay After Attending Her Cannes Premiere: ‘That Will Likely Be the First Thing I Do’
Image
Ezra Miller may be making a return to Hollywood.

“The Flash” star’s career was derailed after a series of abuse and harassment allegations leading up to the release of the DC Comics film in 2023. Since then, they’ve been keeping a low profile, but recently made an appearance at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of “Die My Love” to support Lynne Ramsay, who directed Miller in “We Need to Talk About Kevin.”

Miller was at another fest recently, Filming Italy Sardegna, and gave an interview to Italian publication Lo Speciale Giornale where they said they’d return to the industry “on tentative grounds.” Miller also called Ramsay “one of the greatest living filmmakers” and revealed that they’re working on a new movie together.

“I’m working with her again, that will likely be the first thing I do. It’s a film that her and I are writing together,...

Ezra Miller's Comeback "Will Likely Happen" in Upcoming Vampire Film
Image
It’s been just over two years since Ezra Miller’s The Flash fiasco ran itself decisively into the ground during the 2023 summer movie season, not to mention hammering the final nail into the rickety coffin of the now-defunct Dceu/Snyderverse. However, in an intriguing interview published by Lo Speciale Gionale, Miller openly reveals they are "on tentative grounds" to return to Hollywood. The 2012 Critics Choice Awards nominee (Best Young Actor/Actress) for We Need to Talk About Kevin believes their comeback will begin in a movie they've been writing with good friend Lynne Ramsay. Miller said during the sit-down when asked about their feelings towards working in Hollywood again:

"Tentative. I’d say on tentative grounds. I came to Cannes [back in May] to support one of my closest friends in the world, Lynn Ramsay, who I think is one of the greatest living filmmakers. I’m working with her again. That...

After The Flash Fiasco, Ezra Miller Eyes Return to Acting & Reflects on Past Controversies
Image
Ezra Miller was riding a high wave of adulation after their casting as The Flash in the Dceu, but by the time their solo movie was released in 2023, the tide had turned. The actor was a part of a slew of controversies during production, and after The Flash underperformed, Miller has not been seen in a significant movie role since.

Recently, Miller resurfaced by attending the Cannes Film Festival. In an interview with the Italian outlet Lo Speciale Gironale (per Deadline), the former DC actor shared that the reason they attended Cannes was because their close friend Lynne Ramsay had "asked me to come" to support her new movie Die My Love. Miller also revealed that they've considered a return to Hollywood, albeit "on tentative grounds," going on to note how the first thing they plan on doing would be a new project with Ramsay.

Ezra Miller Considering Hollywood Return “On Tentative Grounds” After Cannes
Image
Before Ezra Miller was spotted bolting down the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival last month, they had largely remained out of the public eye for the past two years following a series of arrests.

“I came to Cannes to support one of my closest friends in the world, who is Lynne Ramsay—who I think is one of the greatest living filmmakers,” they told Italian outlet Lo Speciale Giornale. “I’m working with her again, that will likely be the first thing I do, is a film that her and I are writing together.”

James Gunn's DC Reboot Confirmed to Include 8 Arrowverse Heroes
Image
James Gunn's Dcu Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters is confirmed to include at least eight DC heroes who will be introduced as new versions after being part of the Arrowverse on The CW. The Arrowverse served as DC's small-screen branch for over a decade after successfully launching a shared universe anchored by Stephen Amell's Green Arrow, Grant Gustin's Flash, and Melissa Benoist's Supergirl.

The Arrowverse featured many iconic moments, such as epic crossover events like the Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline (which even included a special cameo from Ezra Miller's Flash from the DC Extended Universe). After the Arrowverse ended with Superman & Lois in 2024, a brand-new reboot under James Gunn and Peter Safran will usher in an exciting era of fresh stories that began with Creature Commandos and will continue in the David Corenswet-led Superman movie.

Disgraced ‘Flash’ Star Ezra Miller Gives Strange Interview About Possible Hollywood Return
Image
Ezra Miller, 32, posed on the red carpet for the first time in two years at the Filming Italy Sardegna Festival in Cagliari, Italy, on Thursday and told Italian outlet Lo Speciale Giornale that their relationship to the cinema these days is “on tentative grounds.”

After being spotted in Cannes, Miller gave a peculiar interview in which they addressed their return to Hollywood and what prompted their visit to France. Miller claimed, “I came to Cannes to support one of my closest friends in the world, Lynne Ramsey — who I think is one of the greatest living filmmakers,” they said. Ramsey previously directed Miller in 2011’s We Need to Talk About Kevin.

On Miller’s “tentative” return to Hollywood, they commented that an unnamed film they’re currently writing with Ramsey “will likely be the first thing [they do].” The actor also mentioned that they’ve been doing a lot of writing, but...

Dcu's Wonder Woman Movie Announcement Could Bode Well For A New Flash Movie
Image
Recently, what seemed almost impossible given the character's recent cinematic woes became a reality: A new Wonder Woman film set in the Dcu is under development. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Gunn revealed a movie centered around Diana Prince — separate from the previously announced Paradise Lost HBO series — was being written:

"'Wonder Woman''s a separate thing [from the 'Paradise Lost' show] [...] We're working on 'Wonder Woman.' 'Wonder Woman''s being written right now."

Of course, a film being in development doesn't guarantee it making it to screen. However, just the fact that DC Studios is working on Wonder Woman comes as a big, welcome surprise.

Given the critical and financial reception of 2020's Wonder Woman 1984, and the somewhat confusing situation that unfolded between Gal Gadot and DC Studios regarding the now-defunct Wonder Woman 3, it seemed like the hero would not be seen on the big screen for a long time.

It's Official: A New 'Wonder Woman' Movie Is Finally Happening
Image
James Gunn could be taking us to Themyscira sooner than expected. The Dcu-head told Entertainment Weekly that a Wonder Woman movie is "being written right now." He clarifies this is different from the Paradise Lost prequel series at HBO that will be about the Amazons of Themyscira. That project, Gunn says, is "slow moving, but it's moving." Gunn also tells Entertainment Weekly that Wonder Woman has not yet been cast. All this ahead of the release of the highly anticipated Superman movie from Gunn's Dcu, starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel. Gunn notes that in terms of looking to four of the bigger players in the Dcu: Batman, Superman, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman, "I wouldn't say only those four characters, but I would say that those four characters are incredibly important to us. Right now, I feel great about where two of those characters are, and then we're dealing with the other two.
