Michael Douglas and real-life son Cameron Douglas are set to reunite on the big screen.

Good Deed Entertainment has acquired domestic rights to Looking Through Water — a family drama feature starring Michael Douglas — and is planning a late summer theatrical release, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. Roberto Sneider helmed the film that co-stars Cameron Douglas alongside Walker Scobell, David Morse, Michael Stahl-David, Ximena Romo and Tamara Tunie.

Looking Through Water centers on a father who attempts to bond with his estranged son by teaming up with him for a father-son fishing competition.

Sneider (Tear This Heart Out) directed the movie from a script by Rowdy Herrington (director of the original Road House) and Zach Dean (Fast X). Hailing from Aeth Entertainment, the project is based on the novels Catching Big Fish and Looking Through Water from author Bob Rich, who executive produces.

Producers include Robert Mitas, Stan Spry, Carla Woods and Eric Woods.

Desmin Borges Comedy ‘Hangdog’ Lands at Good Deed (Exclusive)

Good Deed Entertainment has acquired worldwide rights to Hangdog, a comedy movie starring Desmin Borges and Kelly O’Sullivan.

Director Matt Cascella’s feature is scheduled for release via digital platforms on Oct. 25, which will be preceded by advance theatrical screenings in select cities. Rounding out the cast are Barbara Rosenblat, Steve Coulter, Catherine Curtin and rescue dog-turned-performer Mr. Tibbs.

Set in Portland, Maine, Hangdog centers on Walt (Borges), who deals with anxiety while attempting to retrieve his stolen dog before his girlfriend, Wendy (O’Sullivan), returns from a business trip.

The film earned audience awards at the Woods Hole and New Hampshire Film Festivals. It has also screened at the Provincetown International Film Festival, the Berkshire International Film Festival and the Calgary International Film Festival.

Cascella helmed the film from a script by Jen Cordery. Cascella, Borges, Alyssa Roehrenbeck and Patrick White serve as producers.

Romantic Comedy ‘Advanced Chemistry’ Lands World Rights Deal

Exclusive: Good Deed Entertainment has acquired world rights to the romantic comedy Advanced Chemistry, starring Samba Schutte (Our Flag Means Death), Chaunté Wayans (Tiffany Haddish Presents: They Ready), Sarah Burns (Barry), Kiran Deol (Sunnyside), Iqbal Theba (Glee) and T’Keyah Crystal Keymah (That’s So Raven).

Good Deed Entertainment is set to release the film in theaters beginning September 3rd and on digital platforms October 8th, 2024.

The film is directed by first-time feature director Etana Jacobson and produced by Alec Moore, Jane Miller, Sarah Burns, and Jacobson, with Moore also writing the screenplay. The film was executive produced by Luke Taylor and Matthew Helderman of Buffalo 8. Pic follows a scientist (Schutte) who injects his best friend (Wayans) with a compound he’s created to help her stop cheating on her wife (Burns), but when the wife finds her new fixation suffocating, the wife gets a dose too, which backfires as she falls for the scientist.

Good Deed Entertainment Takes North America On Rom-Com ‘Love … Reconsidered’ – Cannes

Exclusive: Good Deed Entertainment has acquired North American rights to Carol Ray Hartsell’s Hamptons-set indie romantic comedy Love … Reconsidered for a Valentine’s Day 2024 release.

Sophie von Haselberg stars as a down-on-her-luck New Yorker whose life is suddenly transferred to the Hamptons after a chance meeting with a wealthy consignment store owner.

“Love… Reconsidered is refreshing and I know audiences will fall in love with this unique cast,” said Gde’s EVP Acquisitions Erik Donley. “This is going to be a perfect film for rom-com fans everywhere.”

The deal was finalized ahead of the Cannes Market and negotiated by Gde’s Donley and Brett Walker, president at Alief with partner Miguel Angel Govea on behalf of the filmmakers.

‘Loving Vincent’ Distributor Good Deed Launches International Sales Division Ahead Of Cannes Market

Exclusive: Ahead of this year’s Cannes Film Festival and market, indie distributor Good Deed Entertainment (Gde) has launched an international sales division.

Gde’s Executive Vice President of Acquisitions Erik Donley will be leading the unit, alongside Executive Vice President of Production and Distribution Andy Myers and Head of Sales Marco Disilvio.

Gde says it currently has 30 films available for worldwide distribution. In addition to selling acquired titles, the company will also work with their own original productions, via their fledgling production division led by Head of Production Phil Garrett.

First on deck is filmmaker Quinn Armstrong’s Fresh Hell film series, produced by Myers and Garrett. Fresh Hell is a three-feature film anthology series from writer-director Quinn Armstrong (Survival Skills) and will be released under Gde’s genre film label, Cranked Up Films, which has included the titles Extra Ordinary and Nightmare Cinema.

Cullen Douglas’ feel-good documentary “Billy Flanigan: Happiest Man on Earth” has landed at Good Deed Entertainment. The film will debut in theaters Oct. 1 before its on-demand release Oct. 7.

A Disney World performer since 1982, Billy Flanigan became a national sensation during the pandemic. After Disney parks shut down, he embarked on a 7,000-mile bike ride across the country, delivering live musical performances (or “Flanigrams”) to brighten peoples’ days. Out of the spotlight, however, Flanigan struggled to come to terms with his sexuality. The documentary delves into his life and career, using archival footage and candid interviews to tell his story.

“Someone magical who just always comes when they need to be there,” one interview subject describes him as in the trailer, which you can watch below.

“My job at Disney has just been the most incredible journey, so I wake up every day and I think I am,” Flanigan reflects at the end of the video.

Gravitas Ventures has acquired North American rights to Last Night in Rozzie, a Boston-set drama starring Neil Brown Jr, Nicky Whelan, Jeremy Sisto and Kevin Chapman. Sean Gannet directed the pic, which will now get a day-and-date release beginning September 17.

Written by Ryan McDonough, the plot centers on New York lawyer Ronnie Russo (Brown) who becomes entangled in a complicated web of conflicting loyalties when summoned to his Boston hometown by a dying childhood friend (Sisto). Sent on a mission to fulfill his friend’s final wish – a reunion with his estranged son – Russo is forced to confront his past and a secret childhood trauma he’s kept hidden for more than 25 years.

In today’s film news roundup, Paramount is trying to bring Rose Byrne on board a Tiffany Haddish project, MGM moves up the release date of “Operation Finale,” and Telexist Films launches as a post-production specialist.

Casting

Paramount Studios is in negotiations with Rose Byrne to join the upcoming Tiffany Haddish comedy “Limited Partners.”

The studio announced in May that it had pulled “Transformers 7” from its June 28, 2019, release date, and slotted Haddish’s comedy “Limited Partners” in its place. Paramount set up the project last fall with writers Sam Pitman and Adam Cole-Kelly. The story centers on two female friends who build a successful company, then find their relationship tested following a buyout offer.

Byrne will play the more pragmatic of the two best friends. The comedy is prepping for an October production start. Peter Principato, Itay Reiss, and Joel Zadak are producing.
