From legendary producer and former head of Sbs TV, Tiger Yeongseop Kim, and starring Danny Ahn, member of the iconic K-pop group g.o.d., comes director William Inbyuk Hyoung‘s genre-bending thriller “Chabak,” a surprise hit in Korea. Following a successful theatrical release in September 2023 and a dominant run on Netflix Korea, where it held the number one spot for two consecutive weeks, the film now arrives in North America courtesy of Est N8 distribution.

Back in June, Kcon LA — the world’s largest annual Korean pop culture festival — announced that the first-generation K-pop group g.o.d would be performing at its event in July. When Kcon USA’s official Instagram account posted the group’s name without any periods, some commenters cracked religious jokes. “Is he bringing the 12 disciples?” read one comment. “The rapture is at Kcon” read another.

But for fans who’ve been listening to K-pop for many years and had long heard about these living icons, it really did feel like the rapture was here.

‘Chabak: Night of Murder and Romance’ – Korean Movie Turns Car Camping into Carnage Camping

Above you’ll find your first look at an upcoming Korean horror movie titled Chabak: Night of Murder and Romance, directed by William Inhyuk Hyoung.

Est Studios has taken worldwide sales rights, Deadline reports. The site notes, “Est will introduce the film to buyers at the upcoming Marché du Film in Cannes.”

“The story revolves around a romantic Chabak (car-camping) trip that turns into a nightmare for a couple when they’re hunted by a masked psychopath in the mountains and forced to confront a painful truth.” Danny Ahn stars alongside Kyoung-In Hong and Min-Chae Kim.

Chabak will release in South Korea and Southeast Asia in late August.

Tiger Yeongseop Kim produced Chabak: Night of Murder and Romance.

Est Studios Takes Global Sales Rights To Korean Horror ‘Chabak’, Starring G.O.D. Member Danny Ahn – Cannes Market

Exclusive: International finance, production and sales company Est Studios has taken worldwide sales rights, excluding South Korea, to Korean horror thriller Chabak – Night Of Murder And Romance, directed by William Inhyuk Hyoung.

Produced by Tiger Yeongseop Kim, the film stars Danny Ahn, who is also a member of K-Pop group G.O.D., Kyoung-In Hong (The Great Queen Seondeok) and Min-Chae Kim (The First Shop Of Coffee Prince).

The film is aiming for a release in South Korea and Southeast Asia in late August. The story revolves around a romantic Chabak (car-camping) trip that turns into a nightmare for a couple when they’re hunted by a masked psychopath in the mountains and forced to confront a painful truth.

The former head of Korean broadcaster Sbs’s series and content hub departments from 2015 to 2019, Tiger Yeongseop Kim is now the CEO of Chabak producer Tiger Studio.
