James Wan Explains How Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Adapted Arthur Jr.'s Comic Story
Image
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will showcase some major changes to the titular hero's world, including the birth of his son, Arthur Jr.

Speaking to ComicBook, director James Wan revealed that most of the baby storyline is pulled directly from the comics. "Baby boy. Yes. It's their son, Arthur Jr. Yes, and that's basically taken straight from the comic book," the filmmaker explained. "The reason why we went down this path is because it felt like the natural extension of the first movie. I kept describing Aquaman II as the part B of the first movie, and so, a lot of the character arc and hero's journey that we had set up in the first film gets to grow. They grow and expand in the second one, and obviously, seeing, at the end of the first movie we see Arthur defeating his brother to become the king of Atlantis."

Everybody's favorite musician octopus will have a bigger presence in the Aquaman sequel.

With that noted, those who love Topo may be stoked to learn that the character has a much bigger presence in the sequel. While speaking about Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom with Empire, Wan confirmed that the fan favorite octopus will be sharing the screen more often with Jason Momoa's Arthur Curry.

Aquaman 2 Synopsis Confirms the Introduction of an Important Atlantean
Image
A new synopsis for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has confirmed the arrival of Aquababy to the DC Extended Universe.

Warner Bros. and DC Studios released a new synopsis alongside the first teaser trailer for the long-awaited sequel to 2018's Aquaman, which revealed that Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Mera (Amber Heard) got married sometime between the events of the two Aquaman flicks and now rule Atlantis as its King and Queen. However, in the part of the synopsis that confirms the film's returning cast members, Aquaman is described as having to balance "his duties as both the King of Atlantis and a new father" while Mera is "Atlantis' Queen and mother of the heir to the throne." This seemingly confirms that their child, Arthur Curry Jr./Aquababy, will be introduced in the sequel.

Aquaman 2: How James Wan Could Repeat the Success of Conjuring 2 with Reshoots
Image
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the sequel to the 2018 blockbuster Aquaman, is one of the most anticipated DC movies of 2023. The film will see Jason Momoa return as Arthur Curry/Aquaman, who must face a new threat that could endanger his underwater kingdom and the surface world. However, the film has also faced several challenges and delays during its production, including three rounds of reshoots and constant test screenings. But this may not be a bad thing, as director James Wan has proven before that he can use reshoots to improve his movies and surprise his audiences.

Wan is no stranger to reshoots, as he did the same thing with his 2016 horror hit, The Conjuring 2. In that film, he added the character of the nun, who was the main villain of the movie, in reshoots. He said he was still discovering the design of the demon character while editing...

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Will Be Standalone, James Wan Reveals
Image
Director James Wan has revealed that the upcoming DC sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, will be a standalone comic book movie outing. Speaking with Comicbook.com, Wan explained that the Aquaman sequel will largely stand apart from the rest of the DC cinematic universe, which is sure to come as a major positive considering that this version of the DC universe will soon come to an end.

"Well, Aquaman – even the first film – has always been a very standalone film. That was always our approach: that it kind of lives in its own world, and that's kind of how we've approached The Lost Kingdom as well.”

Not only will Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom go it alone, Wan also declared that the follow-up will take things “to the next level,” giving audiences more action and more Momoa.

"You know, people love Jason Momoa; people love him playing this role; and...

Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023)
Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom Expands Cast And Adds Mysterious New Character Stingray
Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023)
"Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," the sequel to the official, unquestionable best Dceu movie "Aquaman," has expanded its cast – and revealed a new character created specifically for the film. Randall Park, who briefly appeared in the first movie, has been confirmed to return. Meanwhile, new additions include Jani Zhao, Indya Moore, and Vincent Regan. Zhao's part is the character created specifically for the movie – someone named Stingray. We don't know if Stingray is friend or foe just yet, but the name sounds ominous enough that I'm inclined to think this is a new villain. Or I'm completely wrong!

THR has the scoop on the...
