Celebrating over 45 years as a broadcaster, Black Entertainment Television's Rap City creator Alvin Jones recently was honored and featured on Black Entertainment Television's Hip Hop 50th Celebration documentary "Welcome to Rap City." The program drew 2.4 million viewers on its initial airing.
His longevity and diversity has allowed him to be an integral factor in many cutting edge technologies and innovations.
Alvin started his career as the host of the number one rated legendary radio program "The Quiet Storm" on Howard University's WHUR 96.3FM.
Alvin is the host and executive producer of the automotive television show Planet Vehicle. Planet Vehicle airs in Washington, DC; Baltimore, MD; Richmond & Norfolk - Virginia Beach, VA; and Wilmington, NC.
Arlington Independent Media in the Washington, DC market recently enlisted him to oversee their newly revamped marketing, promotional, and content strategy.
He also served as general manager for radio station WERA 96.7FM in the Washington, DC market. His Smooth Jazz radio show Planet Jazz features music and interviews of the top Smooth Jazz artists.
In 2006, his companies, Alvin Jones Communications and Aye Jay Productions partnered with Microsoft to become one of the first content producers of online video. They interviewed Jamie Foxx, Alicia Keys, and the cast of tv series Grey's Anatomy from the NAACP Image Awards. They also interviewed the feature film X-Men cast at the Cannes Film Festival.
Other projects include the arrival of The Pope at The U.S. Capitol, live streaming of Senate and Congressional hearings, coverage of the Presidential Inaugural, coverage of Grammys, and pre-Oscar events for MSN.
