Sony's canceled Spider-Man 4 movie — directed by Sam Raimi and starring Tobey Maguire — receives a new fan poster that brings the known elements of the movie back. Raimi and Maguire's Spider-Man 3 was not originally meant to be their final movie, but Sony canceled the planned Spider-Man 4 and effectively ended that version of the franchise. However, Maguire's return as his version of the hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man: No Way Home has brought back the demand for the actor to lead his own standalone Spider-Man 4. This fan art makes a compelling case for it to happen.
Artist Artoftimetravel shared on Instagram a fan poster of Tobey Maguire and Raimi's Spider-Man 4, and it featured a few interesting characters. Spider-Man is known for having one of the most distinctive rogues galleries in Marvel Comics, and this fan poster shows off some of his best offerings.

Would It Have Been Better? Dropped Plot Details And Characters For 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Emerge
Earlier this year we broke down The Best & The Worst Of "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," and needless to say, there was a lot more of the latter than the former. And as with any big budget tentpole, particularly one racing to get into theaters two years after the first entry, a lot of decisions had to be made about which new characters to introduce, and which others were worth saving for down the road. One of the decisions that grabbed the most headlines was dropping Shailene Woodley's brief appearance as Mary Jane Watson altogether. But as it turns out, there were lots more little things that got shaved away as the movie was written and shot. Badass Digest breaks down some of the big and small changes made in the script along the way. Among the most interesting nuggets is that J. Jonah Jameson was in early drafts (and...

Reaction to Sony's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" was quite varied, with the ending in particular a big point of contention amongst not just fans of the comic but the film series as well.
This week, Bad Ass Digest received an early draft of Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman's script for the film and has revealed a number of surprising changes made to the final product - most notably an alternate ending.
Major Spoilers Ahead
The final film features a video of Gwen Stacy's commencement speech serving as the motivation for Peter Parker to get out of his post-Stacy death funk and become Spider-Man again after months away from the job. In the Orci and Kurtzman draft, the motivator is a surprise twist:
"The same thing happens here! But instead of finding a tape of Gwen's super on-the-nose graduation speech, Peter is approached by... his dad! Yes, Richard Parker shows...

When The Amazing Spider-Man 2 kicked off the summer movie season back in May, it was derided by fans and critics alike, despite making over $200 million at the domestic box office and just over $700 million worldwide. Last week, we reported that screenwriter Roberto Orci has pulled out of The Amazing Spider-Man 3, and that Sony isn't quite sure how to move this franchise forward at this time.
Badass Digest received an early draft of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 script by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, which reveal a number of changes made from this draft to the final product, including a rather surprising alternate ending. I really did enjoy Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but there was a lot of room for improvement. Thanks to Badass Digest, we have a list of ten things from the original script of the film that were, for one reason or another, cut out of the final product. Some of the points revealed include info on Mary Jane, J. Jonah Jameson, Peter's blood, a slightly different take on Gwen's death, and a different twist to the ending. I've included five of the ten points below so make sure to head on over to Badass Digest to see the rest!
Mary Jane. As we all know Shailene Woodley was cast as Mary Jane Watson, shot some days and then was cut from the movie. The original script includes all of the Mj scenes, and she's introduced as the Parker's new next door neighbor. Her dad is an abusive...

Badass Digest have seemingly got their hands on an earlier version of The Amazing Spider-Man 2's screenplay as they've listed 10 of the biggest alterations between that and the movie, shedding some light on what could have been and why so many scenes felt out of place or simply didn't make sense. Perhaps the biggest shock and "Wtf?" moment here is the fact that Richard Parker was originally set to make a return at the end of the movie. Unfortunately, there's no mention of that deleted after-credits scene with Norman Osborn's decapitated head, so who knows what that was all about! As you may have heard, The Amazing Spider-Man franchise is currently in limbo, so we'll have to wait and see if any of what is mentioned below is used further down the line... Mary Jane. Tobey Maguire packs a perfect Peter Parker as the friendly neighbourhood geek who is transformed into a web-slinging crimefighter after being bitten by a genetically altered spider. Completely aware that with great power comes great responsibility, director Sam Raimi does Stan Lee's comic-book hero true justice with a yarn which is both visually stunning and emotionally engrossing. Willem Dafoe provides Spidey's first nemesis as the maniacal Green Goblin while Kirsten Dunst puckers up a treat as girl-next-door Mary Jane Watson.

It turns out that we're going to see a new, very cunning female drug kingpin chick, named Allison, show up to give Jane Watson a run for her money in a game of cat and mouse. Allison has inherited a narcotics cartel from her late husband, and is just loving staying one tiny step ahead of Jane, and more. In their spoiler chat report, they stated: "The Oct. 30 season premiere, titled “Enough Nemesis To Go Around,” will find Watson playing cat-and-mouse with a cunning (and female) drug kingpin. The character, Allison, inherited control of a narcotics cartel from her dead hubby and is really relishing staying one tiny step ahead of Jw. (Something tells me the tables are about to turn.)" Shailene Woodley has admitted that she doubted her acting skills after being cut from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
The actress played the part of Mary Jane Watson in the sequel, but her scenes were not included in the final cut of the film.
Woodley told Vanity Fair how she felt after she heard the news.
She said: "For a few hours it was literally like, 'Oh, my God, was I awful? Why did they cut me? What are people going to think?'"
But the 22-year-old explained that she felt better about it the next day: "I woke up the next morning and I was like, 'Okay, it makes total sense'.
"I'm a pretty spiritual person, so I can just sit back and trust that everything happens for a reason, even if my ego doesn't like it."
Woodley is starring as Hazel Grace Lancaster in The Fault in our Stars.

Shailene Woodley is a talented, up-and-coming actress who is best known for her roles in The Descendants, Divergent, The Fault in Our Stars, and maybe even more famously for a role she never got to show the world: Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Webb has said in the past that the decision was made in order to focus more on the Peter-Gwen relationship, which makes sense, rather than introduce Spidey's true lady love. My Spidey senses tell me that history repeats itself, sometimes pretty fast. Ten years ago Spider-Man 2 opened up and crushed box office records. It was also very well received; it has a 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and when people name their favorite superhero movie of all time, it joins the conversation with The Dark Knight, The Avengers, The Incredibles and Howard the Duck. Even though "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" topped the box office the weekend, the Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic and CinemaScore grades for the film were all down from the first entry in the new series. This afternoon, we broke down all the ways Marc Webb's film went wrong (and few things it got right), but one fan is taking his displeasure a bit further. Some guy in India named Muhesh Spaleesh has started a petition at Change.org calling for a director's cut of "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," one that is based on the presumption of completed scenes existing that were cut from the movie. Well, we do know that Shailene Woodley's brief scenes as Mary Jane Watson were axed very early on, and curiously, of the scenes Spaleesh is requesting, that's not one of them. Instead he wants more dubstep action, more Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone (because who...

You never forget your first love. Which helps explain why Spider-Man fans . the ones who started reading the hero.s comics early on . never really got over the deep crush Peter Parker had on his initial girlfriend, Gwen Stacy. Marc Webb.s decision to go with Gwen over Mary Jane Watson in his rebooted Spidey story, The Amazing Spider-Man, led to rampant speculation that we one day might be able to see Gwen.s saga played out on the big screen. Of course, that hope also led to all sorts of problems. So many of those issues fell to poor Emma Stone, cast in the roll of Gwen Stacy in Marc Webb.s first Spider-Man film and now its sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2. How do you speak, in depth, about the character you have been hired to play when almost anything you say about her can be considered a spoiler?...

Still here? Then let’s talk about one of the most morbid, nitpicky, and longstanding debates in comics history. A debate that’s somehow raged for more than 40 years. A debate that’s reignited due to the climactic death in Amazing Spider-Man 2. The question at hand: Did Gwen Stacy die of whiplash? Our story of geek arguments and behind-the-scenes backstabbing begins in 1972. Spider-Man creators had invented the blonde and sweet Gwen in late 1965 as a new love interest for Peter Parker, one to rival wild redhead Mary Jane Watson. For nearly 100 issues,...

Spider Sense Tingling!!! - Here be spoilers!
Warning, this article is full of spoilers for the new Amazing Spider-man movie. If you haven't seen it yet, click away now...
Ok.
Last chance.....
Right, if you're still here, let's go.
Though it seems I may be in the minority here, I can honestly say that as a long term Spider-man fan I think the new film is certainly the best Spidey flick I've ever seen and is quite possibly one of the greatest comic book movies I've ever had the pleasure of watching.
But what about the Avengers flick, I hear you cry, or X-Men First Class? They're great, nay, awesome films, no question, but though it's not without its flaws The Amazing Spider-man 2 just about nails everything that makes the reading of comic books such a joy. Well it does for me,...

Real name:
Peter Benjamin Parker
First Appearance:
Ultimate Spider-Man #1, 2000
Status:
Deceased
Powers and Abilities:
Spider-Man possesses superhuman strength, agility, reflexes, equilibrium, the ability to cling to surfaces, and a sixth sense that warns him of impending danger. However, his Spider-Sense is not as accurate as 616 Spider-Man, as he cannot pinpoint the locations of attacks whereas the 616 version is able to. Peter is an accomplished scientist for his age, with a stated Iq of 145. Spider-Man is also immune to vampirism, a fact Morbius indicates in issue #96, in which Morbius states, after Spider-Man is bitten by a vampire, “You’ve done something to your blood… Your blood cannot feed a night crawler the way normal humans’ blood can.”
Weaknesses:
Despite his strength and agility, the Ultimate Spider-Man’s biggest weakness is his age. While he is still the downtrodden Parker we know from the 616 Universe, Ultimate Spider-Man must deal with adolescence and...

It’s pretty much impossible to leave a film set in the Marvel universe without having something to talk about, whether it’s a notable character, a plot development, or a storyline that you really enjoyed. Mostly, though, when you leave a superhero film, your focus isn’t on the present — it’s on the future. We want to know where this franchise is going. We want to know now. Thus, we speculate. And speculate and speculate and speculate…and sometimes we dissect just enough to keep us busy until more detailed intel comes out.
There’s always something to...

If you don’t want to know the nitty-gritty plot details from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, close this tab now because this article is chock full of spoilers, but if you’ve seen the movie and want a spot to discuss the good and the bad and the weirdly campy, this is the place for you. Let’s get down to it.
I generally liked the movie, but there was a Lot going on in this sequel, and the movie suffered for it. The overabundance of villains was a problem, and they ended up detracting from the narrative. It ultimately felt like the movie existed solely to put the pieces in place for Sinister Six, and that really annoys me. Jamie Foxx’s Electro had a promising start, but was dispatched with pretty quickly and shunted off to the horrible Ravencroft Institute, which was the worst. (What movie did Martin Csokas,...

From the moment that radioactive spider decided to chomp down on Peter Parker, the most average boy in Manhattan’s life was never the same again. But despite becoming the flying, web-slinging defender of New York City, at his core Peter was still a teenager struggling to figure out his place in the world. Each and every one of Peter’s moves upon becoming Spider-Man depended on three crucial factors: Mary Jane Watson, Gwen Stacy and Aunt May. The three main women in his life. Though their timelines and characters have changed over the years from their depictions from comic books to film, their relevance to Peter Parker’s story remains the same. Without Mj, Gwen or May, he wouldn’t have had much to care about or many personal reasons to keep fighting. Mary Jane Watson She’s the redheaded girl of many a comic book reader’s dreams, and...

Nicknames and Aliases
Spidey, Webslinger, Scarlet Spider, Ben Reilly, Ricochet, Prodigy, Dusk, Hornet.
Powers and Abilities
Spider-Man has the proportionate strength, speed, agility, and reflexes of a spider. He can climb walls/most surfaces and possesses a “spider sense” that instinctively warns him of immediate danger. He also possesses superhuman endurance and healing abilities. At times, he’s also been capable of naturally generating adhesive webbing and extend a poisoned “stinger” from his wrists. He is also an accomplished photographer.

Early on, one of the major casting reveals for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was that Shailene Woodley would be playing Mary Jane Watson. Woodley got as far as shooting her scenes for the movie, only to be cut from the final edit. But now director Marc Webb reveals how she would have fit into the […]

We have known for quite a while that Shailene Woodley's role as Mary Jane Watson had been cut by director Marc Webb from The Amazing Spider-man 2. Without revealing any plot elements at the time, Webb explained that he wanted to keep the Gwen Stacy/Peter Parker dynamic as the central focus of the superhero sequel. In recent months, we have all discussed the overload of villains and characters added to the movie and the question became whether cutting Woodley was due to bad casting or truly...

Both Emma Stone and Jamie Foxx had some interesting comments this weekend when discussing their characters in Amazing Spider-Man 2, that I thought was worth sharing with the comic book faithful.
Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy
First off, you've probably heard that Shailine Woodley (of Divergent) was cast as Mary Jane Watson, the red-headed girlfriend first associated with Spider-Man and Peter Parker in the Sam Raimi trilogy and eventually - in the comics - Peter's wife. The scenes ended up being cut from the film, and Stone told us where that scene would take place.
Did it feel weird to at one time know they had Mary Jane lined up as your successor?
Emma Stone: No, it didn’t feel weird at all. I shot scenes with Shailene, who I adore. She was amazing. I think the storyline, as you see,...

Whatever you think of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy – from its overall quality, to its faithfulness to the comic book on which it was based, to the casting of Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst as Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson – there was one integral element that was undeniably perfect in every way. So much so, in fact, that it’s near on impossible to imagine anybody else ever doing said aspect justice. We’re talking about J.K. Simmons as Daily Bugle editor-in-chief and long-time Spidey hater J. Jonah Jameson, of course, in a part he was clearly born to play.
Whether you thought Maguire sucked, or Dunst was boring, or James Franco was just downright weird, there’s arguably nobody on Earth who sat down to any movie in the original Spider-Man trilogy and said: “J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson? What terrible casting!” Watching Simmons in...

One of the major differences between Spider-Man in the main Marvel universe and the Ultimate Marvel universe is the centrality of his relationship with Mary Jane Watson. In the mainstream universe, Peter Parker had been in serious relationships with Daily Bugle secretary Betty Brant and Gwen Stacy before he started dating Mary Jane. However, in the Ultimate universe, Mary-Jane is Peter’s first love. They were good friends before they started dating. And even after Peter dated Kitty Pryde, Gwen Stacy, and smooched Black Cat, and Mary Jane went out with Mark Raxton, the frontman of the band Molten Man, they either remained friends or got back together after their respective breakups. But Mary-Jane definitely has her own life outside of Spider-Man or Peter Parker. She is friends with Liz Allen and helps her come to terms with being a mutant and eventually warms up to Gwen Stacy just before...

Peter leads the life of a normal student, working as a photographer at the school paper, pining after the beautiful Mary Jane Watson (Dunst) and hanging out with buddy Harry Osborn (Franco). On a school trip, during which Peter and his classmates are given a science demonstration on arachnids, Peter is bitten by a genetically-altered spider. Soon after, he discovers that he has unusual powers: he is endowed with the strength and agility of a spider along with a keen, Esp-like "spider-sense." Warning: The above video contains major Amazing Spider-Man 2 spoilers
It's no bad thing that Shailene Woodley's scenes as Mary Jane Watson were cut from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – between Dane DeHaan's unstable Harry Osborn, Jamie Foxx's nerd-turned-supervillain Electro and the expanded mythology surrounding the Parker family, Marc Webb's sequel already felt overstuffed.
But Mary Jane is still in line to play a major role in the third film, and Woodley has more or less confirmed that her schedule on the Divergent sequels will make her return very unlikely.
With that in mind, we've rounded up 10 more actresses with whom Andrew Garfield's Peter could hit the jackpot.
1. Juno Temple
Last year's BAFTA Rising Star award winner already has a few high-profile roles lined up, alongside Angelina Jolie in Maleficent and Ray Liotta in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. But she's yet to star in a franchise,...

Spider-Man is arguably the most popular superhero of all-time – there’s something inherently attractive about the idea of being imbued with his web-swinging abilities, not to mention the fact that he’s totally nerdy and yet still manages to keep ahold of the voluptuous, gorgeous Mary Jane Watson. It’s the sort of life that many of us might long for, although the constant onslaught of villains makes it a little less desirable (but only a little). Yes, it’s true to say that Spider-Man encompasses everything required to make a great superhero: his popularity is justified.

In Spider-Man’s origin story in Amazing Fantasy #15, we don’t get to spend much time with Uncle Ben. We get to see that he cares for his nephew Peter and gets him a science set. He also gets to say a quote that has become synonymous with Spider-Man, “With great power, there must also come great responsibility.” And then he dies, and the story focuses on Peter Parker becoming Spider-Man. However, in Ultimate Spider-Man, writer Brian Michael Bendis takes his time and fleshes out Uncle Ben as a character. He uses the oft-maligned comics writing device of decompression to explore the relationship between Peter and Uncle Ben to make his death have more emotional gravity as well digging deep into what makes Peter Parker decide to become the hero Spider-Man.
Before his tragic death, readers get to spend four whole issues with Uncle Ben. His characterization is especially strong...

Thanks to Marvel_Spider for coming across this cool image of an unused Venom costume, designed by the talented crew at Frontline Design. In 2004, Frontline Design collaborated with three-time Academy Award winning Costume Designer, James Acheson, on Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3. Ultimate Spider-Man #200
Written by Brian Michael Bendis

Published by Marvel Comics
Fourteen years ago, Marvel hired an indie crime comics writer named Brian Michael Bendis to reimagine Spider-Man for the 21st century. Eleven years later, he killed off Peter Parker and replaced him with a completely new character as Spider-Man. After the events of Cataclysm, some fans may have decided to stop reading books in the Ultimate Universe. However, Ultimate Spider-Man #200 may persuade them to stick around. It’s a very simple comic. The whole plot is Aunt May throwing a party for Peter Parker’s various friends and allies in celebration of his life. The beginning of the issue has a lot of Bendis banter and a few awkward moments along with plenty of hugs and a few tears. When the “party” starts to die down,...
