The TV adaptation of 12 Monkeys ended up being very different from the Bruce Willis/Brad Pitt time-travel movie it was based on — but it was still just as great. Released in 1995, Terry Gilliam’s initial film version of 12 Monkeys takes place in a post-apocalyptic future ravaged by a deadly disease. Willis plays a convict who’s sent back in time to gather information about the creation of the virus that ended up decimating the human population. When the time travel experiment goes awry, he ends up in the wrong year.
In 2015, 12 Monkeys was reimagined as an underrated TV show for Syfy. The series was created by Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, and in its first season, it was run by Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’ Natalie Chaidez. The movie is a loose remake of the classic 1962 French short La Jetée, about a time traveler who gets caught in a stable time loop.

The classic sitcom Bewitched ran for eight seasons and a total of 254 episodes, premiering on September 17, 1964 and wrapping up on March 25, 1972. A spin-off called Tabitha came and went in 1977, then Bewitched received a big screen reboot back in 2005… and in recent years, Sony has shown that they’re very eager to reboot the property again. Back in 2018, it was announced that Black-ish creator Kenya Barris and writer Yamara Taylor were working on a TV series reboot that would give the concept “an interracial twist”. That didn’t go anywhere. In 2021, it was reported that Terry Matalas (MacGyver) and Travis Fickett (12 Monkeys) had been hired to write the screenplay for a new Bewitched movie. That never made it into production… and apparently the idea has been abandoned, because now Deadline has learned that writer/producer Judalina Neira has signed an overall deal with Sony Pictures Television that’s focused on developing...

Fans of the Terminator franchise lament new entries in the franchise because T2 was a perfect ending. Thanks to time travel, there are many ways to interpret events so that The Terminator and T2 are both the beginning and end of the saga. This requires a little suspension of disbelief and imagination, but it can allow fans to enjoy new installments without judging them against T2.
Some will always be disgruntled with how modern films, television series and other media evolve a fictional universe they loved as a child. When this happens, they'll often declare one of the past entries as when the story "really ended." In the case of the Terminator film series, many fans believe the first sequel, James Cameron's T2, is the perfect end to the series. The good news is, even with all the successive films, comics and games, it still can be, while not...

When SyFy announced the reboot series 12 Monkeys, fans of the classic movie rolled their eyes and asked, "Why?" However, with the show's narrative complexity and unforgettable characters, it more than justified its existence. Jennifer Goines, the character inspired by Brad Pitt in the film, is easily 12 Monkeys' best character, but she almost wasn't in the show at all. At least not in its earliest stages.
Sci-fi fans best know Terry Matalas as Star Trek: Picard Season 3's mastermind and the only storyteller who can give fans Star Trek: Legacy. However, before he reunited the crew of the USS Enterprise-d, he and his former college roommate Travis Fickett decided to take on time and space. Emily Hampshire, also known for playing Stevie on Schitt's Creek, was cast in a gender-swapped version of Jeffrey Goines, a breakout role for Pitt. The final season of Star Trek: Picard delivered to fans and Paramount+ what they'd been waiting for since the show was first announced. Picard was a series that earned its arc into nostalgia by simply being a good, well story. While fans are mostly content that cast members from the series think Star Trek: Legacy is a great idea, the biggest threat to the proposed spinoff would be losing its architect: Terry Matalas.
From LeVar Burton's appearance on The View to the cast's long-form interviews on fan shows like The Ready Room or The Shuttlepod Show, they all sing the praises of Picard's showrunner. The idea for the final outing to be a reunion of The Next Generation cast was his. Fans of the behind-the-scenes history of Star Trek know legacy actors can be difficult to wrangle; however, Matalas took an approach that made them feel invested in the storytelling.

Since its launch in 2019, a pillar of Disney+ has been revisiting and building upon stories from across the Walt Disney Company's brands. Whether that's traveling deeper into a galaxy far, far away with new "Star Wars" shows, uncovering uncharted corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or catching up with fan-favorite characters from beloved shows and movies like "The Santa Clause," "Night at the Museum," or "Enchanted," the House of Mouse's streaming platform continues to offer interesting and exciting ways to revitalize their biggest franchises. Although, the service also creates an avenue to revitalize lesser-known or forgotten properties from Disney's past. With their 100th anniversary just around the corner, that's likely to happen a lot more in 2023. But even before the new year is upon us, the company has announced that they're taking another trip back to Witch Mountain.

If anyone had any doubts if this new season was going to be exciting and different than what was expected, it feels like this episode will easily silence the haters. With an utterly familiar Star Trek-y feeling and a fantastic and complex new plot, Picard Season 2 feels like the Star Trek: The Next Generation sequel everyone was waiting for.
And, that means, there are a lot of Easter eggs and references to the entire Star Trek franchise. In some ways, “The Star Gazer” plays out like a short Trek feature film, which means that there is a lot packed into this episode that you might have missed. Following the success of WandaVision at Disney+, a Bewitched movie reboot is in development at Sony Pictures. Based on the original comedy series that starred Elizabeth Montgomery, the new movie adaptation will apparently ignore the 2005 movie that was widely panned upon its release. Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, the team behind the TV series MacGyver and 12 Monkeys, will write the screenplay for the new remake with John Davis and John Fox producing via David Entertainment.
The original Bewitched television series followed the married life of a witch named Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery) and her mortal husband, an advertising executive named Darrin Stephens (first played by Dick York and later by Dick Sargent). At the time, the series was a tremendous hit, scoring very high ratings as one of the most popular shows of the era. Sony Pictures is in early development on a new adaptation of the classic sitcom “Bewitched,” starring Elizabeth Montgomery.
Montgomery starred for eight seasons as Samantha Stephens, a witch married to an ordinary man named Darrin (Dick York and later Dick Sargent) and whose magical powers often cause — yet, sometimes solve — a few wrinkles in her life as a typical suburban housewife.
Created by Sol Saks, under executive producer Harry Ackerman, “Bewitched” ran from 1964 to 1972 on ABC and was a defining example of the genre. Its spinoff, “Tabitha” (focused on Samantha and Darren’s daughter), ran for one season.
The new film comes from producers John Davis and John Fox with a script written by Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett. Matalas has an overall deal at CBS and is currently co-running “Star Trek: Picard.” The quartet is also developing the “Witch Mountain” remake for Disney Plus.
Notably, this is not Sony...

Sony Pictures is in early development on a new movie take on the ’60s sitcom “Bewitched” that starred Elizabeth Montgomery.
The new “Bewitched” movie will be written by Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, who are the creators behind the series “MacGyver” and “12 Monkeys.”
John Davis and John Fox are developing the film that’s based on the original sitcom series.
“Bewitched” ran for eight seasons and 254 episodes beginning in 1964 and was the story of a witch married to an ordinary man, whom she does not inform of her special powers until after their wedding. She agrees to attempt to hide her magic from extended family and the outside world but struggles to hide her instincts with hilarious results.
Will Ferrell and Nicole Kidman starred in a 2005 film directed by Nora Ephron also based on “Bewitched.” That film however was about Ferrell playing an actor who unknowingly teams with a...

Exclusive: Sony Pictures has set a movie based on Bewitched, the classic TV series that starred Elizabeth Montgomery. Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, who ran the MacGyver and 12 Monkeys series, will write the script. John Davis and John Fox are producing through Davis Entertainment.
Sony tried a romantic comedy movie version in 2005, which Nora Ephron directed and which starred Nicole Kidman as the witch and Will Ferrell as her hapless husband Darrin. This one will be different, I’m told. Its jumping-off point is the series, in which a witch marries an advertising exec and then tries to hide her powers and her crazy relatives who drop in often.
Montgomery starred with Dick York (later replaced by Dick Sargent) in the ABC series that ran from 1964-72. The perfect TV series homemaker facade was used effectively in the recent WandaVision series, and the premise — the wife who has a...

There isn't even time travel involved with this fantastic news.
12 Monkeys has been renewed for a third season, as first reported by EW.
Hailing from executive producers Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, 12 Monkeys Season 2 is in the middle of one of the most creatively viable and incredibly emotional arcs its ever had.
With only two episodes remaining this season, it's wonderful of Syfy to give fans the freedom to really sit back and enjoy what lies ahead.
“Syfy and Ucp have been incredible creative partners, and I’m thrilled that we are going to tell the next — even more twisty and emotional — chapter of this time travel adventure,” Matalas told EW.
This season, a lot of the action has taken place in the future, a future in which protaganists and would-be love interests James Cole (Aaron Standford) and Cassandra Railly (Amanda Schull) have been distant and at odds.

The sheer volume of television both currently on air and available to stream is daunting. It's nigh impossible even for those who track TV for a living to keep up with it all. At this point, the curators need curators. We could recommend many shows from Rectify, to The Knick, to The Leftovers, to Mr. Robot, but here are just three currently on that air that you may have missed. A gripping spy thriller, one piece of mesmerizing horror, and a cleverly realized science fiction adventure are all on tap and all easy to catch up on if you're a first time viewer. The Americans: This criminally under-watched FX spy drama is arguably the best television series currently on the air. Set in the 1980s during the height of the Cold War, The Americans challenges the audience to view the world through the eyes of the “enemy,” as we follow...

12 Monkeys has been one of this years great surprises. It's a clever, unique take on time-travel packed with action, excellent performances and keen storytelling. Building on the bare-bones premise of the cult film, the series follows James Cole (Aaron Stanford) as he travels through time on a mission to prevent the apocalyptic pandemic set off by the Army of the 12 Monkeys. As he jumps from year to year, Cole encounters Dr. Cassandra Reilly (Amanda Schull), a virologist caught up in Cole’s Mission, and Jennifer Goines (Emily Hampshire) a mental patient harboring the secrets that could save the world, both of whom play a critical role in the future of the human race. I recently had the opportunity to interview the season-one showrunner Natalie Chaidez. We talked about what showrunner's job entails, successfully running the first season, and what series creators Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett get right about time travel.

SyFy has renewed its Terry Gilliam adaptation 12 Monkeys for a second season. Currently midway through its rookie outing, the network will further the adventures of the time-traveling Cole for another string of episodes due to bow in 2016.
Behind the scenes responsibilities will undergo a slight change before production rolls out, though. Get ready for "12 Monkeys" X 2. Does that mean 24 monkeys? We can only hope. Syfy announced on Thursday (March 12) that "12 Monkeys" will be back for a second season in 2016. While the renewal announcement doesn't include an episode count, it does include an interesting tidbit: With current showrunner Natalie Chaidez developing Syfy's "Hunters," Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, who wrote the pilot, will be stepping up as showrunners. This is especially fun for those of us who remember Fickett from his days as a TV reporter for IGN. "We are absolutely committed to '12 Monkeys,' and have been incredibly impressed by the outstanding critical and audience praise the series has earned," blurbs Dave Howe, Syfy President. "The talent both on and off-screen have delivered a series that has us all on the edge of our seats, providing exactly the smart, exciting storytelling Syfy is known for." In its most recent airing,...

Syfy has renewed its TV series adaptation of "12 Monkeys" for a second season to air next year. The time travel drama scored not only solid reviews, but has been seeing its numbers increase over its thirteen episode first season so far. The first season's finale airs April 10th.
One change for the second season though is that Natalie Chaidez will step down as show runner to prepare the new series "Hunters" for the network. In her place, co-executive producers and the pilot's co-scribes Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett will take over as show runners.
This isn't the only renewal news today as CBS has reportedly given early renewals to its sitcoms "Mom" and "Mike and Molly" for a third and sixth season respectively.
