Amazon's Prime Video has cemented its name among the most successful streaming services, with a diverse set of original projects, whether films or TV series. However, after recently canceling Bosch: Legacy, the streamer has now canceled yet another show.
The comedy sitcom Clean Slate premiered on Feb. 6 to positive reviews. It was co-created by Laverne Cox (Orange Is the New Black) and George Wallace (Batman Forever), who also starred in the sitcom. However, despite the positive reviews, Deadline officially confirmed Prime Video axed Clean Slate after one season.
Cox, Wallace, and co-creator Dan Ewen confirmed the news in a guest column on the outlet, detailing the show's origins and further details about the show. Clean Slate was one of the last series veteran producer Norman Lear produced before his death in 2023, as the series had been originally announced in January 2020 by Peacock. Amazon has canceled the comedy series “Clean Slate” after one season, Variety has confirmed.
The show originally debuted on Prime Video in February. It starred Laverne Cox, George Wallace, Jay Wilkison, D.K. Uzoukwu, Telma Hopkins, Philip Garcia, and Norah Murphy. It bears the distinction of being the last completed series produced by the legendary Norman Lear before his death in 2023.
The logline for the show states that it “follows Harry Slate (Wallace), an old-school and outspoken Alabama car wash owner, who has a lot of soul searching to do when the estranged child he thought was a son returns home to Mobile as a proud, trans woman, Desiree (Cox).”
Wallace and Cox co-created the series with Dan Ewen. All three served as executive producers along with Lear, Brent Miller, and Simran Baidwan. Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios produced.

The first episode of this new Prime Video comedy is preceded by a quote from its late, great executive producer, sitcom giant Norman Lear: “The laughter I’ve enjoyed most is laughter that has brought numbers of us together.”
This is both an admirable sentiment and an easy one for Lear to have had. In the 1970s, when issues-oriented Lear comedies like All in the Family, The Jeffersons, and Maude dominated both the ratings and critics’ lists, Lear was able to bring together Americans from all walks of life,...

If you follow the human interest verticals of your news sources, you spent last year reading about children choosing to go “no contact” with their parents. Some TV creators must have had familial estrangement on their minds well before that, because 2025 has kicked off with this story being foundational to multiple new sitcoms. In Going Dutch, a father is thrown back into the life of the daughter who went no contact with him three years ago; they’re both in the military, and the father’s commanding officer knows about their tense relationship and is intentionally messing with him. In Shifting Gears, a daughter descends on her father after their contact with each other tapered off upon the death of her mother; the daughter’s marriage is falling apart, and she and her children need somewhere to live. Now, in Clean Slate, a father receives an email from the person...

One of producer Norman Lear’s final projects will be released on Prime Video next month.
Clean Slate, starring Laverne Cox and George Wallace, follows a father and daughter working to repair their relationship after not speaking for more than two decades. Wallace stars as Harry, an old-school, outspoken down-South car wash owner who quickly has to get his pronouns up to par when his estranged son shows up on his doorstep in Mobile, Alabama, as Desiree (Cox), a proud trans woman.
What was supposed to be a short visit for Desiree turns into a more extended stay when the art gallery she ran in New York City loses funding and she becomes roommates with her dad. In the vast cosmos of fandoms, Marvel and DC stand miles apart despite both sharing several similarities. Yet, fans of the two are often embroiled in clashes and rivalries, arguing over a plethora of things and blasting each other off. However, one particular figure, Zack Snyder, has often united the two fandoms. Not because of his talent and work but because fans love to hate the ingenious filmmaker for his feat in the DC universe.

But disrupting this harmony of hate is the X-Men ’97 creator Beau DeMayo, who recently showed his unabashed admiration for Zack Snyder.
