Clayface is Suicide Squad Isekais Best Boy
Image
Warner Bros.'s Suicide Squad Isekai has rocketed in popularity since its recent U.S. release in June 2024, bringing DC Comics fans into the world of anime and anime fans into the DC universe. Not only does it cleverly use the popular isekai genre to the original Suicide Squad story's advantage, but the series' renditions of DC's most famous villains are both incredibly likable and entertaining.

One of these villains is Clayface. There have been several versions of the character throughout DC's history, but the one presented in Suicide Squad Isekai seems to be most inspired by the version seen in the Harley Quinn TV series. Clayface is a helpful, hilarious narcissist who can't help but feel the warmth of the spotlight shining on him at every moment, and that self-obsessed charm is one of many reasons why he'll rank high in the anime's popularity poll by the time the season comes to a close.

The new millenium has initiated the terribly tragic demise of some of the most influential deranged deviants in the history of horror films. A plethora of wimpy Jason Voorhees and Michael Meyers wannabes has submerged the slasher sub-genre in a swampy, leech-infested lake leaving me with no other choice but to accept the inevitable: my once immortal horror heroes have sadly been plagued with mortality by much tamer modern day manifestations of the macabre. Independent writer/director and owner & founder of production company Kerosene Films, Kerry Beyer takes a playful stab at re-inventing and ultimately redefining some of the greatest monumental machete-wielding maniacs ever to slash their ways through horror history.
