Jenji Kohan is a creative force helping to define two of the best shows of the streaming era — “Orange Is the New Black,” which she created, and “Glow,” on which she is an executive producer. “American Princess,” which she produces with creator Jamie Denbo, takes key elements of the Kohan playbook — a character placed in an unfamiliar community with its own distinct rules, a combination of utopian politics and disregard for cultural orthodoxy, a willingness to be gross and odd at times. Say this for Lifetime’s “American Princess,” then: Its failure makes clear what precise alchemy goes into making a show a success.
The pilot, for instance, is constructed with attention to story beats and to seeding conflicts, and paying them off with drama. Amanda Klein (Georgia Flood), a New York freelance writer, is gearing up for her gruesomely elaborate upstate wedding when she inadvertently discovers her soon-to-be-spouse bedding a sex worker.

Giovanni Ribisi has joined the cast of Seth MacFarlane's live action Fox comedy "Dads," replacing Tommy Dewey after one episode was shot.
In a sign of good faith, Fox ordered six episodes of "Dads" without filming a pilot first. The series was set to star Dewey (a recurring player on Fox's "The Mindy Project") and Seth Green as successful thirtysomethings suddenly forced to live with their nightmare dads (Peter Riegert and Martin Mull).
Word slipped out that reaction to the series' first taping was underwhelming and now Deadline reports that "tweaking" has ensued, including recasting Dewey with Ribisi. "Dads" had already replaced co-star Erin Pineda with Vanessa Lachey after its first table reading.
Ribisi hasn't had a series regular TV role since the short-lived early '90s comedy "Family Album," but he has a professional history with MacFarlane having done a guest voice on "Family Guy" and co-starred in both MacFarlane's blockbuster directorial debut,...

Giovanni Ribisi has replaced Tommy Dewey in Fox's multicamera comedy "Dads," Deadline reports. The six-episode series was created by Seth MacFarlane, Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, the team behind "Ted" (in which Ribisi also starred).
The comedy is centered around Warner (Ribisi) and Eli (Seth Green), two successful men whose lives are thrown into disarray when their high maintenance fathers (played by Martin Mull and Peter Riegert) move in with them.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the role was reimagined after the pilot taping last week, and Ribisi was apparently a better fit than Dewey. The character is described as "co-owner of a successful video game company and a family man with a wife and two young children." The role of Warner's wife was also recast, with Vanessa Lachey taking over from Erin Pineda following the table read.
Ribisi's best known TV roles include his stint on "Friends" as Phoebe's kooky brother Frank Jr.
