Talking with Subhash K Jha, Darsheel Safary reminisces about his second film Bumm Bumm Bole, which released in 2010.
Darsheel, May 14 marks 15 years of your first post-Taare Zameen Par release?
15 years of Bumm Bumm Bole! Time really does fly. Shooting for it right after Taare Zameen Par was such a memorable experience. I was still quite young, and everything felt new and exciting. I wouldn’t say I got “star treatment” in the typical sense—but yes, there was definitely a sense of familiarity and warmth from the crew after Tzp. I felt looked after, and that made a huge difference.
What was it like being directed by Priyadarshan?
Working with Priyadarshan sir was a total learning curve. His energy and pace on set was infectious, and he had such a clear vision of what he wanted. I remember how precise he was—even with the emotions. We hardly wasted any time.

New Delhi, May 17 – Child actor Darsheel Safary, who earned kudos for his portrayal of a dyslexic child in Aamir Khan’s ‘Taare Zameen Par’, has failed to attract footfalls with his latest outing ‘Bumm Bumm Bole’. Experts blame it on the lack of star power.
Produced by Percept Picture Company and directed by Priyadarshan, the movie also stars Atul Kulkarni, Rituparna Sengupta and newcomer child actor Ziyah Vastani.
”Bumm Bumm Bole’ is a very emotional movie. Darsheel has done a good role. The content is good.

Majid Majidi's Children Of Heaven comes down to earth in an endearing spiral of the spellbinding and the sensitive.
Let's not get unnecessarily and unjustly nostalgic about the original Iranian film. This remake, done up in shades of terrorism in the idyllic North-east (region unspecified) is so lyrically lush in its visuals and so gently evocative in treatment that the original material is forgotten ten minutes into the narrative.
A great deal of the credit for the film's immense intense but toned-down impact must go to the children, Darsheel Safary no longer the pouty buck-teethed moppet from Taare Zameen Par, and little Ziyah Vastani who's quite easily the most delightful new discovery of the year. Ziyah in fact steals many scenes from under her brilliant co-star's nose. If he minds it, he doesn't show it.
