Comedians Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers honored the best, brightest, and dumbest (complimentary) in pop culture at the fourth annual Las Culturistas Culture Awards, which made its television debut tonight.
Both a send-up of, and winking tribute to, the splendor and ridiculousness of industry awards shows, Yang and Rogers started the Culture Awards in 2022, spinning off the bit from their hit podcast, Las Culturistas. For the first three years of its existence, the Culture Awards were put on as a live-only show in New York City, mainly featuring Yang and...

Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff’s earliest dates included long walks around New York City in places like Washington Square Park and near Electric Lady Studios, where they first met during a rooftop party. But while their romance was rooted in the city, the traditional approach they took to dating highlighted the actress’ North Carolina upbringing.
“Before we were together, at the beginning, I would always follow Southern girl etiquette,” Qualley told Cosmopolitan in a new cover story. Antonoff was the first to say “I love you” and often the...

Lollapalooza Day Two wrapped in Chicago’s Grant Park on Thursday with stellar performances from Olivia Rodrigo, who made her Lollapalooza Chicago debut at the top of the lineup; and Korn, who last performed the festival when it was still a touring entity back in 1997. Bleachers, T-Pain, and Djo were also among the highlights.
Olivia Rodrigo Makes Her Lollapalooza Chicago Debut
It may have been Olivia Rodrigo’s Lollapalooza Chicago debut performance, but she could’ve easily topped the bill earlier if she hadn’t already been selling out stadiums on her own Guts tour.

During his highly anticipated new HBO stand-up special, Marc Maron joked that he’s “not afraid to die anymore,” under one condition — a very specific Taylor Swift song has to be playing.
Marc Maron: Panicked arrived Friday, and the comedian recounted a self-described “near-death experience” that occurred one day when he was hiking. He explained, “It was a pretty hard hike” with a notably “steep incline for like 150 minutes,” and one day, the worst happened: he passed out after doing a squat stretch.
“For years in the middle of that stretch, I said to myself, ‘It’s amazing I haven’t passed out,’” he said. “But I did pass out on this one particular time.”
Maron explained that during this time in his life, he was grieving the loss of his partner, Lynn Shelton. “The interesting thing about grief is that when you’re in it at the beginning, it’s all-consuming.

Marissa Bode had quite the introduction to San Diego Comic-Con Thursday night.
Not only was it the first time the “Wicked” and “Wicked: For Good” star attended the San Diego convention, but she was also a judge at the 11th annual Her Universe Fashion show..
Co-hosted by Her Universe founder Ashley Eckstein and Broadway star Michael James Scott, the show’s theme was “Defying Fashion: Fashion That Defies Expectations” and featured 25 “geek couture” designers pulling inspiration from Universal properties.
The judging panel named Lynleigh Sato winner for her colorful “Trolls”-inspired look while the audience picked Caitlin Beards’ black and gold “The Mummy” gown.
“I had a lot of fun,” Bode, who plays Nessarose in the “Wicked” movies, told me after the winners were announced. “First ever fashion show in the books, first ever Comic-Con in the books. I came in hoping for looks, because I’ve seen Comic-Con pictures...

Jack Antonoff brought his Ally Coalition Talent Show from New York City to Newport Folk Festival on Friday, essentially splitting his headlining set between a Bleachers gig and a guest-heavy superjam. The big “surprise” of the evening was when Paramore’s Hayley Williams came out to give a live debut to her new track “Mirtazapine.”
Previously released only on Nashville Public Radio, this was likely the first time many had even heard the song. For as cut with a ’90s jagged edge as “Mirtazapine” is, it didn’t feel overly anatopic at Newport Folk; perhaps it’s because William’s vocals weren’t as washed in delay, or because Antonoff’s acoustic guitar was more forward. Besides which, at the modern Newport Folk Festival, a little screaming and head-banging isn’t as unfamiliar as it once was.
Williams stayed on to duet with Antonoff on Modern English’s classic “Melt with You,...

Editor’s Note: This story contains spoilers for “Too Much,” now streaming on Netflix.
Lena Dunham is back in the spotlight, and eight years after the conclusion of “Girls,” we missed her. We’ve all known Dunham to be a voice of a generation, and she’s now packing all her years of celebrity into her latest magnum opus: “Too Much.”
Sure, “Too Much” is a critically acclaimed return to smart rom-coms with female audiences in mind. Did we expect anything less from Dunham? No. What is different, though, is the inclusion of nods to her own viral moments. This is Dunham laying bare for audiences once more — and only her true fans, raised being way too online, would get all the references to her lore.
Dunham has promoted “Too Much” as a semi-autobiographical series. “Hacks” breakout star Megan Stalter plays the Dunham-esque Jessica, who relocates from New York to...

It’s been seven years since a Lena Dunham show has been on TV, a stretch of time that catches even the “Girls” creator herself off guard, as she ponders the break between her second HBO show, “Camping,” and her new Netflix series, “Too Much.”
But the reprieve in between projects was a necessity for Dunham, who notes she spent the entirety of her 20s crafting TV series, with “Girls” running on HBO from 2012-2017 and “Camping” coming shortly after in 2018. “I felt like I needed to take a little bit of time to reconnect to what I really love about what I do,” Dunham told TheWrap ahead of the debut of “Too Much,” a Netflix comedy loosely inspired by Dunham’s decision to move to the U.K. after a breakup.

When Anne Hathaway agreed to star in Mother Mary, she knew the role demanded more than vocal range or choreography; it required dismantling her public poise and starting “as a beginner every single morning,” she recalled in a recent cover interview.
Two years of daily dance drills left her body “so locked up” she literally couldn’t draw a full breath until coaches taught her to release tension through movement and sound. That work culminated in an extended barn-set solo that Coel says left crew members silent between takes, a rare pause on a production known for its brisk pace.
The A24-backed feature centers on a fractious reunion between a global pop icon and the fashion designer who once curated her image, unfolding mostly inside a rural workshop rather than on arena stages. Anne Hathaway opened up in a new Vogue cover story about the making of “Mother Mary,” the upcoming A24 music drama from director David Lowery. Co-starring Michaela Coel, the film stars Hathaway as a pop diva who flees her tour during an existential crisis and seeks out the old friend who helped craft her public persona. Not much else is known about the movie, although Lowery said “it felt like shooting ‘Apocalypse Now.'”
“At one point Annie broke down and said, ‘I have to apologize, because I think what’s going to come out of me will hurt you.’ And Michaela took her hands and said, ‘I love you, I trust you,’ ” Lowery remembered about shooting a climactic scene. “We were in various stages of that for about a week, shooting that scene.”

New details have emerged about David Lowery’s Mother Mary courtesy of a new Vogue cover story featuring its Oscar winning star Anne Hathaway.
The A24 film casts Hathaway as the title character, a pop star described as a Lady Gaga-meets-Taylor Swift hybrid who flees a tour and winds up seeking out an old friend and fashion designer (Michaela Coel) who helped shape her public persona. Based on interviews Vogue writer Maya Singer included in the piece, Mother Mary sounds like a challenging project for all involved, or at least “intense” per Singer who describes the (nearly) finished product as “a very weird movie.”
Much of the film “turns on the making of a dress, which is spectacular,” and most of the action finds Hathaway and Coel hanging out in a 13th century barn where those involved may have gone “temporarily, mildly insane,” Singer writes. There are “a...

Anne Hathaway had to shed her Oscar-winning musical background for David Lowery’s “Mother Mary.” The indie film, which centers on Hathaway’s pop star character, features original songs written by Charli Xcx and Jack Antonoff. While Hathaway did record the vocals for the tracks, the music was not finalized during the filming of “Mother Mary,” leading Hathaway to ad-lib the onscreen singing scenes.
“It was so confusing. I had to learn,” she told Vogue. “Because if I’d had the music a year before we ever turned a camera on, I would have tattooed every note of it on my soul, and there would have been a whole process, very specific. Four years after her pandemic-induced pivot to sunshine and acoustic guitars on Solar Power, Lorde has returned with her fourth album, Virgin. Behind the scenes, the Kiwi pop star changed up producers, leaving behind recent collaborator Jack Antonoff, but the first reviews for Virgin are heralding the return of the old Lorde.
Vulture's Craig Jenkins frames the album as a response to the release of Solar Power and celebrates its understanding of the singer's audience.
"Everything about Virgin, Lorde's fourth album, feels like a reaction to trials preceding and following Solar Power," he writes. "Virgin is rife with epiphanies earned in tussles with one’s own established persona. But these cerebral dispatches realize their audience often experiences the work communally and tends to enjoy it most when accompanied by flowing synths and insistent drums. Pure Heroine and Melodrama left indelible marks on mainstream music; Lorde is instrumental to the 21st-century whisper-singer epidemic.

Sabrina Carpenter is open to the possibility of banning phones at her concerts, describing a phone-less night seeing Silk Sonic as the best concert experience she’s ever had.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the pop singer opened up about the possibility of implementing a phone-locking policy at her shows — a practice already embraced by Madonna, Adele, Paul McCartney, and others. While she’s warming up to the idea, she’s aware it could spark backlash. “This will honestly piss off my fans,” Carpenter admitted.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Sabrina Carpenter is a really good hang. “Most people who are friends with a pop star would be like, ‘People don’t know that she’s so funny,” says her best friend, Paloma Sandoval. “But actually, it’s this incredibly unique situation where everyone knows that. As far as things that people wouldn’t expect, I would say she’s the smartest person [I’ve] ever met. You’ll never have a conversation with her that’s dumb.”

If you thought Sabrina Carpenter was slowing down anytime soon, Manchild just proved otherwise and it’s already making waves. Her latest single from her upcoming album is a deliciously petty, glitter-dipped takedown of immaturity, delivered with all the charm and cheek we’ve come to expect. It’s got disco-pop vibes, synthy hooks, and lyrics that feel like they were written during a group chat rant and polished into pure pop gold. Think convertible-down, sunglasses-on, yelling-the-chorus-with-your-besties level energy.
And sure, fans immediately started playing detective, trying to connect the dots to past romances, but Sabrina’s made it clear: this one’s not about just one man, it’s a vibe, an experience, a universal truth. She’s singing for everyone who’s ever rolled their eyes at someone stuck in boyhood while calling themselves a man. Manchild isn’t just a song, it’s a whole summer mood,...

The 26-year-old teased the new album, out this August, on her Instagram, adding, “I can’t wait for it to be yours x.” The news comes on the heels of the pop star’s latest single, “Manchild,” which was released last week and will serve as the lead single of Man’s Best Friend. She co-wrote the song with frequent collaborators Amy Allen and Jack Antonoff.
In a cinematic video for “Manchild,” Carpenter hitchhikes across a desert landscape in everything from pickup trucks to station wagons to a grocery cart sidecar beside a motorcycle, all the while accompanied by the very men she’s singing about. The song of the summer just might belong to Sabrina Carpenter once again, as the pop star released the music video for “Manchild” on Friday, less than a day after officially releasing the single yesterday.
In the cinematic video, Carpenter is hitchhiking across a desert landscape in everything from pickup trucks to station wagons to a grocery cart sidecar beside a motorcycle, all the while accompanied by himbos washing themselves with gasoline or trying to smoke a firecracker like a cigarette. “Manchild” – which the 26-year-old teased on X (formerly Twitter) by saying “this one’s about you!!” – was released exactly one year after her 2024 single “Please Please Please,” which became her first song to top Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

Like it or not, the phrase “folk-pop” can often put listeners to sleep. Cassandra Coleman isn’t having it: On the Tennessee songwriter’s debut single, “Coming of Age,” she proves that acoustic music needn’t be boring.
Helping her achieve that goal is Jack Antonoff, who co-produced the song and lent his group Bleachers to Coleman as her backing band. The result is an immersive, woozy journey into the mind of an artist who refuses to be defined by any one thing.
“‘Coming of Age’ was written in a time of upheaval.

Reigning pop princess Sabrina Carpenter has dropped a new single, “Manchild,” co-produced by everyone’s favorite (or least favorite) knob-twirler Jack Antonoff. The song arrives less than a year after the release of the singer’s sixth studio album, Short n’ Sweet, and hot on the heels of the deluxe edition of the album, released back in February.
“This one’s about you,” Carpenter wrote about “Manchild” in a social media post earlier week, prompting fans to speculate that the track is directed at former beau Barry Keoghan. Clocking in at three minutes and 33 seconds, “Manchild” is a bouncy, subtle country-inflected pop song filled cheeky one-liners like “Did you just say you’re finished/Didn’t know you started.”
A 7” vinyl pressing of “Manchild” is available for sale from the artist’s official store. As if “Manchild” weren’t pointed enough, the single’s B-side is titled “Inside of Your...

In the movies, one of the primary rules of time travel is that you don’t do anything that could cause a tear in the space-time continuum. Plot lines that move between the past, present, and future emphasize the fragility of choice. Back in 2021, Taylor Swift started building an alternate reality by dismantling her first six studio albums and repurposing them as part of an extensive re-recording process to regain ownership of her music. The question became, “What if we could do it all over again, even bigger?”

Taylor Swift has finally put an end to one of the longest-running music industry feuds by regaining her music catalog from Scooter Braun. The widely publicized dispute between the two took place when Braun’s Ithaca Holdings acquired Big Machine Records in a $300 million deal. The deal led the Reputation hitmaker to lose the masters of her first six albums.
Following the historic buyback, Taylor Swift took over the internet to express her joy. In a recent clip shared by her close friend Jack Antonoff, we can spot the two singers jamming out to Getaway Car. While the video appears fun and celebratory, on close observation, a subtle jab at Scooter Braun is evident.

In his twenties, the comedian, director, and actor Mike Birbiglia learned to play the guitar because of its theatrical simplicity. “I always admired people who could walk into a bar and just… that’s the show,” he tells me. Ethan Coen’s raunchy, gory detective movie “Honey Don’t!,” starring Margaret Qualley, Aubrey Plaza and Chris Evans, premiered to a rowdy Cannes crowd at midnight on Friday. The film earned a six-minute standing ovation, with writer Tricia Cooke declaring: “More queer cinema all the time!”
“That’s a fun way to end the festival,” Coen said as he took the microphone and quieted the clapping crowd. “Oh, and short, for a movie that started after midnight. Very humane.”
Indeed, the 90-minute “Honey Don’t” didn’t begin unspooling until nearly 12:30 a.m., after a half-hour delay entering the Palais. But the Cannes crowd didn’t seem to mind the wait, cheering loudly for Coen, Qualley, Plaza and the rest of the team when they finally entered the theater, then clapping vigorously for every producer and distributor card before the movie began.
One audience member even yelled, “I love you Aubrey!

Lorde Summer is upon us: the pop star’s fourth album Virgin will be out on June 27. It’s been four years since her last album, Solar Power, and the 28-year-old artist’s output between albums tends to be pretty minimal. Fans have been anxiously anticipating what her new era will bring, especially after her lead single “What Was That” teased a bigger, bolder sound than her third LP.
Lorde divulged details of her new album in her Rolling Stone cover story, her first in-depth conversation about the new album.

Juliet & Romeo repositions Verona’s ancient feud within a neon‑tinged musical tapestry. Director Timothy Scott Bogart and composer Evan Kidd Bogart stitch Shakespeare’s narrative to a modern pop sensibility (think synth‑laced power ballads that nod to Swiftian craftsmanship). Clara Rugaard’s Juliet and Jamie Ward’s Romeo carry the film’s emotional core, though their duet numbers rarely outshine the production’s more exuberant ensemble set pieces.
Dante Ferretti’s sumptuous costumes—electric crimsons for Capulets, midnight blues for Montagues—pair with Byron Werner’s lensing to conjure an almost hallucinatory version of 14th‑century Italy. Sword fights erupt into choreographed dance‑offs, each cut suggesting a “sword ballet” that reframes violence as stylized pageantry. Filming in real Italian piazzas lends tangible gravity, even when lyrics soar into playful banter.

“Romeo and Juliet has featured in my life at these pivotal moments in a really funny way,” Gabby Beans smiles as she considers all the times she has crossed paths with one of Shakespeare's most famous tragedies.
The actress first read the play as a freshman in high school in Germany and credits her English teacher, Emily Richardson, for elucidating “the imagery and all the levels of resonance that Shakespeare’s writing can hold and evokes.” Months later, her family took a trip to Italy and she saw the Juliet sculpture in Verona. Years later, she played the role of Lady Capulet while studying at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
