General Hospital (Gh) spoilers indicate that Michael Corinthos has been out of town since earlier this year, as Chad Duell’s final episode with the soap aired on January 21.
While many fans would love nothing more than for the actor to return to the daytime drama and his Gh role, it looks as if the character will be recast. Here’s what we know so far.
The Tweet That Rocked Gh Fans’ World
By now, most fans know that Duell left the ABC soap to take a break thanks to some major changes in his life, including losing his father and becoming a first-time dad himself.
When Chad announced his departure in November 2024, it was clear to both Duell and fans that the show would leave the door open for his return.
With that said, Michael is a pivotal part of the soap and needs to return to storylines sooner rather than later.

As a pivotal storyline involving Michael reaches it’s explosive climax, fans of General Hospital are upset over this one detail.
A Familiar Face
On the October 29, 2024 episode, the news of Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) and Drew’s (Cameron Mathison) secret kiss broke throughout the Quartermaine Mansion, and ended with Michael being the last to know. It would have been the perfect scene as Michael learned the hard truth and stormed out of the mansion, except for one little snag: Michael was recast.
Due to a scheduling conflict, Chad Duell, who has held the role of Michael for over 14 years, was temporarily recast with The Young and the Restless alum Robert Adamson. Adamson previously stepped on for Duell in 2022.
Fan Feedback
Ironically, this isn’t the first time a major Michael moment happened with a different actor. In 2010, just when Michael was about to to be sentenced for Claudia’s (ex-Sarah Joy Brown) murder,...

When it comes to Best Supporting Actor at the Daytime Emmys, it usually pays to bet on “General Hospital.” The ABC soap opera has won the category 11 times, far more than any other series, and this year “Gh” could have an overwhelming impact on the category as it accounts for 5 of the 10 pre-nominees in the race. The favorite to win with 12/5 odds is one of “Gh’s” past winners, Chad Duell. Do you agree with our predictions that he’s the front-runner?
Duell has played mob scion Michael Corinthos for eight years, since he assumed the role in 2010. Before him the role had been played by child actor Dylan Cash (2002-2008) and then as a young adult by Drew Garrett (2009-2010). Duell was also fairly young when he stepped into the role, so he earned three Daytime Emmy nominations for Best Younger Actor (2011-2012, 2014) before aging out of that category.

In Parts One and Two of our interview with Drew Garrett, the acclaimed actor spoke about his upcoming role on CBS-tv's The Mentalist, on February 17th at 10 p.m., as well as his leaving General Hospital, and his vindicating Emmy nomination. In Part Three below, Garrett shares his hopes for the future, and what he's learned over these past two years.
We Love Soaps TV: You have proven yourself as a dramatic actor. Have you ever wanted to do comedy?
Drew Garrett: I love doing comedy and I think I’m pretty good at it. For whatever reasons, I tend to just book dramatic roles. I don’t know why that is. I am just as capable of doing comedy, and I have a blast doing it. For the time being, I walk into the door and casting directors say, “Oh yeah, this is a troubled youth.”

'General Hospital' - Sonny's sons Michael and Morgan - that could not have been more bungled. It isn't that the new actors aren't good in the roles.
No, it's that the show chose to make the switches at the height of a major storyline involving Sonny being on trial and his children playing a major role in the trial.
Specifically, it was understandable why 'Gh' recast the original Michael, Dylan Cash, when the character sent into a year-long coma and had to be aged. Actor Drew Garrett not only succeeded making Michael his own creation, he was nominated for a Daytime Emmy.

Less than a year ago, 'General Hospital' made a big move by aging the character of Michael Corinthos, III. Young Dylan Cash, who had played the role for six years, literally growing up before our eyes, was deemed too young for the mature story the writers had in mind for Sonny's son. It was a rough transition for fans, but since Michael was in a vegetative state and bed-ridden for months and months, when he finally awoke and the actor playing Michael was Drew Garrett, we accepted him.
However, in a surprisingly move, 'General Hospital' has replaced Drew Garrett with Chad Duell. No reason given, just a general statement wishing Garrett well in his future endeavors. The pink slip came as a shock to Garrett who claims he was blindsided by the dismissal. And just a month ago he was on the pre-Emmy nomination list for award consideration.
