With The Knife, Nnamdi Asomugha turns a night of domestic crisis into a taut moral thriller about the slipperiness of truth. The film unfolds in near-real time, tracing how a Black family must cope with the fallout of their choices after a woman is discovered in their kitchen and ends up bloodied on the floor with a knife in her hands.
Written by Asomugha and Mark Duplass, The Knife begins in tranquil domesticity as Chris (Asomugha) recalls in voiceover his grandmother’s warning that “our choices determine our future.” As he says good night to his daughters Ryley (Aiden Price) and Kendra (Amari Price), he deflects the sting of them agreeing that he smells like beer, then slips into bed with his wife, Alex (Aja Naomi King), as their newborn child sleeps in a crib next to them.
Hours later, Chris wakes to a sound, and after heading downstairs with a pocket knife,...

As Kansas City Chiefs players continue to process their lopsided loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl Lix, Hollywood insiders are watching to see whether Travis Kelce is ready to snag a coveted acting career.
The year has not quite gotten off to the start that Kelce might have expected. Although the star tight end — along with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the team — reached the Super Bowl with a chance to win a third straight championship, the Chiefs’ prolonged dominance saw some football fans turn on them or become convinced that refs give them more favorable calls. Kelce’s girlfriend Taylor Swift was booed at the Super Bowl by a seemingly pro-Eagles contingent, while Kelce himself caused a social media stir ahead of the big game after calling it a “great honor” to have President Donald Trump in the stadium.

Although Kerry Washington finds the fact that she’s receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame “surreal,” her father, Earl Washington, thinks she should’ve gotten a star a lot sooner.
“Anytime he would hear that somebody was getting one, he was like, ‘Why don’t you have one?’” Washington tells Variety, laughing as she recounts their conversations. “I was like, ‘I don’t know, Dad. I don’t make those decisions.’ So I feel like he’s manifested this moment. I’m excited that I get to share it with him.”
Washington’s father is right. She could’ve been honored anytime in her nearly 25-year career — with a resume highlighted by standout turns in films like “Save the Last Dance,” “The Last King of Scotland,” “She Hate Me” and “Ray,” all before she landed the role of D.C. fixer Olivia Pope on ABC’s “Scandal.

As the night deepens, so too does the trouble for one family. We’re pulled right into their world from the start, sharing their domestic routines and the comfort they’ve created in their new home. But just as they settle in for some much-needed rest, disturbance arrives uninvited.
Nnamdi Asomugha puts us in the bedroom where Chris and his girls are readying for sleep, the gentle rituals of family woven through every scene. It’s not long before his insomnia stirs Chris to investigate strange sounds below. There in the kitchen, a figure stands mysterious as the night itself. What happens next transpires in an instant, though its consequences will linger far past.
Alarms raised; the response brings more questions than answers. Law enforcement swarms the home soon, swirling with doubt and distrust. Detective Carlsen takes charge, her calm mask failing to soothe the family’s fraying nerves. As she separates them in turn,...

The Knife is a visceral viewing experience, keeping us on edge with intense suspense and a poignant conclusion. Stellar cast performances bring the story to life, with Asomugha, King, and Leo delivering top-notch acting. The film's staging creates a sense of claustrophobia, emphasizing the tension and consequences of protecting loved ones.
A Black family has recently moved into a new home in a not-so-safe neighborhood, but a routine evening is disrupted by an intruder. Chris goes down to the kitchen to find the source of the noise. In his hand is a knife. Though he confronts the stranger, what exactly transpired between them is not shown onscreen. Former NFL cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha proves he's also a star off the field with a truly stunning feature directorial debut. The Knife tells a riveting account of how a black family's search for the proverbial American dream turns into a horrific nightmare. The film boldly addresses complex themes of race relations, police accountability, and false perceptions of the truth. A lean, 80-minute runtime packs important details into tense interactions that can easily be overlooked. Your visceral, gut punch reaction to what transpires may be clouded by wrong judgment. There's a lot more than meets the eye in a challenging situation fueled by poor choices.
Chris (Asomugha) gingerly walks around his new house late at night, finishing home repairs. He overhears his daughters giggling when they should be asleep.

Nicholas Colia’s Griffin in Summer swept the narrative features award categories at the 2024 Tribeca Festival, nabbing honors for best U.S. film and screenplay, as well as a special jury mention for new narrative director.
Colia’s feature debut stars Everett Blunck as an aspiring 14-year-old playwright who falls hard for his mother’s handyman and struggling performance artist, played by Owen Teague. The jury mentioned in its notes Thursday that the film “straddled the very thin line between heartwarming, tragic, hilarious and awkward” and that it “fills a void in the marketplace for films that touch on sophisticated themes while remaining family friendly. Never pandering, always fresh, full of relatable universal experiences while being incredibly specific and nuanced.”

Kerry Washington, who loves a fresh, youthful aesthetic, has been serving stunning looks at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival with her signature style that often blends classic and contemporary.
Her latest red carpet outfits, which included a red Pvc fringe dress at the Tribeca premiere of The Knife and a pink tweed ensemble at the Chanel Tribeca luncheon, instantly grabbed my attention. Styling duo Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn put together both looks, which, although hard to replicate and pull off, perfectly captured Kerry’s sense of style and daring fashion choices.

Washington doesn’t constantly wear futuristic clothing, but when she does, she understands how to pull it off.

The Duplasses are starting miniature with their first full-fledged family affair on all sides of the camera: the short film “Oh, Christmas Tree,” a bittersweet 10-minute ode to a father and daughter reliving their favorite holiday traditions.
It’s written by Mark Duplass, directed by his wife Katie Aselton (“Mack and Rita“), and stars their 16-year-old daughter Ora opposite her dad in roles that aren’t exactly autobiographical despite the onscreen, lived-in rapport. Here, the mother is dead, and the daughter, Claire, is now the one doing the parenting as her father grapples with mental health struggles. The short, currently seeking buyers out of Tribeca Festival, packs a lot into its brief running time, and for this trio, it also marks Ora’s entry into filmmaking as she readies to follow in her parents’ footsteps.

Jessica Chastain always manages to turn heads with her fashion choices. I find her style bold and daring; for me, she’s a total red carpet icon. She constantly impresses me with her ability to pull off unique looks that perfectly flatter her figure.
That said, I am not as blown away by her latest outfit. It isn’t a bad look by any means. Her look is polished and chic. However, it doesn’t quite have the same wow factor I’m used to seeing from her.
The Knife World Premiere at Tribeca Film Festival
On Sunday, June 9, Jessica Chastain stole the show at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival. She hit the red carpet in style for the premiere of The Knife, which took place at the Sva Theatre in New York City.

‘The Knife’ Review: A Nightmarish Evening Upends a Black Family’s Sense of Safety in Unnerving Debut
A palpable tension permeates Nnamdi Asomugha’s unsettling feature directorial debut The Knife. It’s evident from the opening sequence, in which Chris (Asomugha), a young Black father, returns to his family after a long day of work. As he slinks into his daughters’ bedroom to say goodnight, the tension holds. It’s still there when he snuggles next to his wife, Alex (How to Get Away With Murder and Lessons in Chemistry star Aja Naomi King), in bed.
The first disturbances — a turning knob, the creak of a door — ease some of the strain. Chris, an intermittent insomniac, wakes from his slumber, grabs a pocket knife and heads downstairs to investigate the noise. In the kitchen, he encounters an old white woman rummaging through the drawers. What happens next is a blur. Asomugha, working with editor Dana Congdon, abruptly cuts from that moment to the next: the woman’s body on the floor,...

The Ralph Lauren Fall/Holiday 2024 Collection fashion show was attended by so many stars!
Jessica Chastain, Glenn Close, and Jodie Turner-Smith were just some of the celebs who stepped out for the intimate event on Monday night (April 29) in New York City.
The designer presented the collection in his private design studio and then everyone celebrated at the iconic Polo Bar after the show.
“The woman I design for has a beauty that comes from an inner confidence,” Ralph Lauren said in a statement. “She dresses for herself. Her style is personal and bold. She’ll throw a hand-tailored jacket over a glamorous evening dress. She believes in quiet sophistication not defined by time or trends. My Fall/Holiday 2024 Collection is inspired by that woman, her sense of timelessness, her individuality — a style that is forever.”

The Alicia Keys musical Hell’s Kitchen and new play Stereophonic, about a fictional band in the 1970s, led the Tony nominations with 13 nominations each.
The Outsiders, a musical based on the 1967 S.E. Hinton book, followed with 12 nominations and the revival of Cabaret, starring Eddie Redmayne and Gayle Rankin, followed with nine nods.
With its 13 noms, Stereophonic set a record for the most Tony nominations for a play, surpassing previous record holder Slave Play’s 12 noms in 2020.
Stereophonic‘s surprisingly strong performance even included a best score nomination despite it being a play.
In the best musical category, Hell’s Kitchen and The Outsiders were nominated, alongside the dance-based show Illionise, with music from Sufjan Stevens’ album and a book by Justin Peck and Jackie Sibblies Drury; Suffs, a musical about the women’s suffrage movement with a score and book by Shaina Taub; and Water for Elephants, based on the 2006 novel,...
