Back in April, Netflix debuted all eight episodes of the first season of Dead Boy Detectives, a Neil Gaiman adaptation set in the same universe as The Sandman. The future of the show has since been unclear, but the newest update on Dead Boy Detectives is very bad news for fans. Per Variety, Netflix has officially chosen to cancel Dead Boy Detectives, putting the show onto the pile of previously-axed titles that fans say ended way too soon on the streaming platform.

The annual North Fork TV Festival has announced its 2024 lineup, full of beloved TV stars and recent Emmy nominees.

The ninth annual event will take place Tuesday, August 27th and Wednesday August 28th in Greenport, NY. This year, Emmy-nominated stars John Turturro (“Severance”) and Marcia Gay Harden (“The Morning Show”) will be among the honorees, as well as “Frasier” Emmy winner Kelsey Grammer and “The West Wing” Emmy-winning alum Richard Schiff.

Harden will be celebrated with the Canopy Award, while Schiff will be feted with the title of 2024 Ambassador for the Arts. Schiff also co-stars in the North Fork TV Festival comedy pilot winner “Swipe NYC,” which will screen.

First things first: The attention-seeking creatures that inhabit Niko (Yuyu Kitamura) in Dead Boy Detectives have names, thank you very much — Litty (Caitlin Reilly) and Kingham (Max Jenkins). So if you even think about calling them Sprite 1 and Sprite 2, they’ll find it really offensive and roast you into oblivion. Actually, they’ll do that anyway.

We meet the 2-inch-tall, foul-mouthed Sprites in Episode 2, “The Case of the Dandelion Shrine,” when the Dead Boy Detectives help remove the paranormal parasites from Niko’s body and trap them in an enchanted jar. “I love doing stuff that’s not overtly comedy, because I think life is really funny, especially in intensely panicked moments,” Max Jenkins told IndieWire in a recent interview. After making a splash in comedic television roles in HBO’s “High Maintenance” and NBC’s short-lived “The Mysteries of Laura,” the actor took a turn for the dramatic in “The Mess He Made,” a poignant short film about a man awaiting the results of an HIV test. Directed and written by Matthew Puccini, the film is a beautifully restrained representation of an emotionally fraught yet all too common experience for many gay men.

“I knew what I wanted to do as soon as I read the script,” said Jenkins. “It’s easy with a good script. You don’t really have to prepare too much. In this case…it was all there.

The best way to get a TV deal for your web series? Don’t try. At least, according to Ben Sinclair and Katja Blichfeld that works, and they would know.

Sinclair and Blichfeld are the creators of “High Maintenance,” a brilliantly crafted, wholly original comedy that began its six-episode run on HBO last month. Sinclair also appears in the series, playing a weed delivery guy referred to simply as “the Guy,” who bikes to the homes of a parade of eccentric New Yorkers. The Guy has a kind of omniscient passport into the inner lives of the lonely, yearning, lost and downright looney people every New Yorker will recognize; if not from the subway, then from the mirror.

O Captain! My Captain! Deadline is reporting that Netflix has identified Toby Stephens to helm the ship and lead the Robinsons as dad John Robinson in the reboot of Lost in Space. Stephens will be joined on the intergalactic tour by Max Jenkins as Will Robinson, the family’s youngest child. Taylor Russell, best known for her work on Falling Skies, has been previously announced to star as Judy Robinson, the eldest daughter. Stephens is no stranger to heading a vessel. He’s spent four seasons as Captain Flint on the Emmy-winning pirate series Black Sails. Lost in Space is slated to debut in 2018. No word yet on who they plan to cast as Dr. Smith or that Hopeless Heap of Tainted Tin robot.

Laura Diamond has solved her last mystery, the mystery of will there be a third season. The Mysteries of Laura has been canceled by NBC. Debra Messing starred as the titular detective, a New York City cop balancing work and home life as best she can. "My dear Diamonds- our story has ended but it was a joyous story to tell. NBC hasn't given sophomore drama a full season order yet but, according to star Debra Messing, the network has ordered five more installments.

The Mysteries of Laura revolves around a brilliant-but-harried NYPD homicide detective (Messing) who must also juggle raising her young twin boys as a single mom. The rest of the cast includes Josh Lucas, Laz Alonso, Janina Gavankar, Max Jenkins, Callie Thorne, and Med Steedle.

The series drew mediocre ratings last season -- averaging a 1.22 in the demo and 7.45 million -- but NBC renewed it anyway for a second season and ordered 13 episodes to start.
