Bait (2011) Movie Trailer, Poster: Sharni Vinson, Julian McMahon
The Bait Trailer and Bait Poster has premiered. Kimble Rendall‘s Bait (2011) movie trailer, poster stars Sharni Vinson, Julian McMahon, Alice Parkinson, Xavier Samuel, and Phoebe Tonkin. Bait (2011)’s plot synopsis: “In a sleepy beach community shoppers at an underground supermarket are terrorized by a crazed bandit when the unimaginable occurs: A monstrous freak tsunami swallows the town. Now trapped, with rushing water threatening to entomb them in a watery grave the survivors discover they are not alone. The tsunami has brought unwanted visitors from the depths. Not only must they overcome the threat of drowning and the predator within their midst, but a threat far more deadly and far more bloodthirsty – hungry great white sharks.”

This film looks so much better than Shark Night 3D in my opinion (notice that movie trailer has not been posted on this site) but there has not been a good shark film on screen since Jaws.

Will they make it out alive using a shark cage fashioned out of a shopping cart? Find out in the just released teaser trailer below.

Watch Now! "Modern Family" and "Glee" Win Big At The 22nd GLAAD Media Awards
The second leg of the 2011 GLAAD Media Awards was held last night in Los Angeles (the first part was last month in New York, and the conclusion will be next month in San Francisco.).

The big news was that Glee and Modern Family tied for the Outstanding Comedy Series Award. Below you can see Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Julie Bowen and Ariel Winter accept the award from presenter Joel McHale. Jesse is funny, poignant, a bit manic, and totally adorable.

Below you can see Glee stars Mike O'Malley and Chris Colfer accept their award. Mike rocks that train conductor cap, while Chris is looking more and more like Roger Federer.

Surprise guest Dolly Parton presented the Stephen F. Kolzak Award to out NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt. Dolly was her usual faboo, irrepressible self, and Robert speaks eloquently about his history in media, including dealing with that infamous Melrose Place gay non-kiss.

AfterElton Briefs: Goodbye to a Disco Legend, Cuddlybear Will Return, Russell Simmons Honored by GLAAD, and More!
Dance music legend Loleatta Holloway passed away yesterday at the age of 64. Among her disco classics are "Hit and Run" and "Love Sensation," the latter of which was used in Marky Mark's 90's smash "Good Vibrations." My favorite was her collaboration with Dan Hartman on "Relight My Fire." She will be missed. The news we've been anxiously waiting for has arrived. TNT has officially renewed Southland for a ten-episode fourth season. This Kylie flash mob at the Sydney Opera House is incredible. it builds slowly until it hits a crescendo of utter joy.

Swedish TV is set to air a new series based on It Gets Better, and their inspiration was Fort Worth Councilman Joel Burns. One person can make a difference. Matthew Morrison has revealed that he and Gwyneth Paltrow will duet on "Over the Rainbow" for his upcoming solo album. This is what it sounds like when the bluebirds cry.

The AfterElton.com Gay List
One of our favorite mantras around the AfterElton offices is “because visibility matters.” Indeed, the idea that gay and bisexual men need to be visible, both to ourselves and to the wider culture, is one of the principle reasons AfterElton.com even exists. After all, it is only by being visible to family, friends and the world that we’ve been able to overcome the stereotypes and bigotry used to justify discrimination against the Glbt community.

That quest for visibility explains why we have done so many polls including the AfterElton Hot 100, the Fifty Greatest Gay Movies, the Top 50 Gay TV Characters, and the 50 Best Gay Books. After all, it’s not as if Entertainment Weekly is going to ask gay and bisexual men which guys we think are the hottest, which movies mean the most to us or, in the case of our latest poll, which celebrities we most admire.

Morning Meme: Nom is Back to Spreading Lies, Paula Abdul Brings Beefcake, and was Jeff Bridges High at the Oscars?
A couple days ago, I mentioned that Modern Family might be doing something extraordinary with a plotline about Mitchell’s assistant. I put too much into that, because it’s going to be so much less than I hoped for. But really, that’s my fault, because what I imagined didn’t really fit the show.

To my Brits, I’m afraid that Rupert Murdoch is going to get to buy the rest of BSkyB, so you’re getting your own Fox News, complete with fake footage and a political agenda. Enjoy!

The Dallas Voice has named councilman Joel Burns Lgbt Person of the Year. Now can he win Texan of the Year?

Well, this is unexpected. Gm is buying oil soaked boom from the Gulf oil spill and turning it into plastic components for the electric Chevrolet Volt. That’s about as much “good” as was possible from the whole incident,...

Morning Meme: Sir Ian McKellen Lives Out and Proud, Katee Sackhoff's New Show, and David Boies Does "The Colbert Report"
Sir Ian McKellen is my hero. Speaking about homophobia to school children in conjunction with Stonewall, he says he’s doing it because “By talking frankly about my own life as a gay man and listening to the concerns of staff and students, parents and governors, I hope the visits arranged by Stonewall may make a difference in the classroom and the playground.”

Ft. Worth Councilman Joel Burns is a finalist for Texan of the Year. If a gay man wins this award, you can find me skiing at my chalet in hell.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have been announced, and I really don’t care. Donna Summer didn’t make it. And Neil Diamond did. Not that either of those two have anything to do with rock and roll.

Ordinarily, I wouldn’t even pick up a book titled Being Gay is Disgusting or God...

AfterElton Briefs: Ricky Unveils, Racist Cupcakes, Kathy and Anderson Will be Together Again, and More!
After two years of marriage, Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson have decided to separate. The fallout is happening quickly from FIFA president Sepp Blatter's "joke" that gay football fans should refrain from having sex if they want to visit Qatar for the 2022 World Cup. There are calls for him to resign, and John Amaechi was enraged by the comments. Here's an interesting followup to the "flamboyant pack" controversy surrounding the video game Heroes of Newerth. Gay-Nerds received two e-mails from insiders in the company. The first was from someone who insisted that no offense was intended, and it was all in good fun. The second was from a former employee who was around when the pack was first discussed, and he claims that the intent all along was to make the sound effects "faggoty." Are these cupcakes racist?

Fort Worth Councilman Joel Burns has been named a finalist for Texan of the Year.

Morning Meme: Huge "Torchwood" Casting News, Nph on his First Christmas as a Dad, Inappropriate Kid Toys, and More!
Note - Ed is buried under tons of snow, so I'm filling in for today's abbreviated Meme.

Let's start with another blast from the past. Above you can see ten of my favorite 80's TV shows. How many can you name? If no one gets all of them, I'll reveal the answers in today's Briefs.

Entertainment Weekly has a handy schedule of the mid-season cable TV premieres. Here are a few of note for next month: January 2 - My Fair Wedding with David Tutera (We TV), January 3 - Greek (ABC Family), January 4 - Southland (TNT), January 9 - Shameless (Showtime), January 16 - Big Love (HBO), January 17 - Skins (MTV), Being Human (SyFy), January 19 - Hot in Cleveland (TV Land), January 21 - Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (Starz).

The Warhol Foundation has sent a letter to The Smithsonian threatening to cut funding unless they reconsider caving in to asshats.

Morning Meme: "Doctor Who" For Christmas, Prop 8 Is Ready For Its Closeup, and the Lohans Sic Lawyers On "Glee"
Good news, America! For the first time ever, we get to see the Doctor Who Christmas Special on Christmas Day. BBC America will air this year’s tale, loosely modeled on A Christmas Carol and guest starring Michael Gambon at 9 Pm.

More good news, and this isn’t just for America. Glee is promoting Harry Shum, Jr. to series regular for next season. Does this mean Sue has to stop calling him Other Asian?

The Marine Corps has found a new way to express their homophobia. They’ve demanded that the gay Toys for Tots party that raises money in New York City change their name after 25 years. They want people to know that when they donate to Toys For Tots, it’s going to the Marine charity.

The Prop 8 oral arguments will be televised on C-span. Stunning that we'll see the appeal live, after Scotus intervened to stop the trial from being televised.

AfterElton Briefs: Kathy Griffin Is Justin Bieber, Max Adler on Kissing Chris Colfer, Gareth Thomas Goes To Parliament, and More
Cher and Christina Aguilera at the world premiere of Burlesque last night in Hollywood

This pathetic yet hilarious rant has been making the rounds today. Basically, the gist is that Barney Frank and Ellen Degeneres are groping people at airports, or something ... I'm not sure. I kind of lost interest after the first couple of sentences. I have no idea what happens in the game Frontierville, but apparently there have been 650,000 same-sex marriages. "That’s amazing, that’s probably more than any country in the whole world." Yeah, probably. Below you can see a sneak peek of tomorrow's finale of Top Chef: Just Desserts, with the final three joining Fonzie for a treat and a surprise. I am so hoping the surprise is a medicated Seth.

Morning Meme: Matt Bomer Is On the Big Screen "Now," Timo Descamps Talks "Judas Kiss," and Baby Lily Is Ready For Her Closeup
First things first: It is Election Day in the United States, so make sure you vote, because my rights depend on it. And I’m selfish like that.

The Dallas Morning News has nominated out Ft. Worth Councilman Joel Burns to be their Texan of the Year. Councilman Burns has made national news since his inspiring It Gets Better speech during the council meeting.

18-year old Disney star Demi Lavato has dropped out of her international tour to check into a treatment center for “emotional and physical issues” according to a statement from her management.

I have to admit, Are They Doing It? is the most addictive time waster I’ve come across in a long, long time. Also, I’m a sick, sick person.

President Barack Obama joins 'It Gets Better' project with video supporting bullied gay teens
Barack Obama
All hail the Chief, proud defender of gay teens. Yes, President Barack Obama has jumped on the anti-gay-bullying bandwagon by producing a heartfelt “It Gets Better” video, following in the footsteps of bold-faced names from Chaz Salvatore Bono and Ke$ha to Adam Lambert and Neil Patrick Harris. The Commander in Chief is far from the first politician to encourage targeted teens to seek solace in adults and know that things will improve — just this week, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton did her own version under the banner of “Tomorrow Will Be Better,” and of course, there’s the viral...

AfterElton Briefs: The Spirit Moves Us, Nate Berkus is Struggling, Joel Burns Chats with Ellen, and More!
Trust me, they were all wearing something purple

Today is Spirit Day, which honors those teens who have lost their lives to anti-glbt bullying, and show support for Glbt youth. GLAAD has a list of the participants wearing purple today (purple symbolizes ‘spirit’ on the rainbow flag), and that list has been growing throughout the day. Below you can see Ft. Worth Councilman Joel Burns talk to Ellen about the inspiring testimonial that has gone viral worldwide.

I was afraid of this. Cutie pie Nate Berkus' daytime show is struggling mightily in the ratings, even losing to shrieking harpy Nancy Grace's new show. The other Oprah droppings, Rachael Ray, Dr. Oz and Dr. Phil were all the top rated new shows of their first seasons, but Nate has had difficulty finding his footing. The article calls his show "unfocused," and I think that's exactly right. He should pick...

Ellen DeGeneres in American Idol (2002)
He spoke out and millions listened on YouTube - and now Joel Burns, the gay city councilman from Fort Worth, Texas, whose impassioned speech went viral last week, is sitting down to chat with Ellen DeGeneres. "It was something that I had thought about particularly during the month of September," Burns tells the talk show host of his 12-minute speech in an interview set to air on Wednesday's The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "I have to tell you that on Monday of last week, when a young man named Zach Harrington in Oklahoma committed suicide after attending a city council meeting...
