10 Minor Brooklyn Nine-Nine Characters Who Never Fail To Make Me Laugh
Image
Brooklyn Nine-Nine's minor characters add an extra layer of hilarity and eccentricity to the show, enhancing the overall viewing experience. Characters like Cj Stentley, Cheddar the Dog, and Caleb John Gosche stand out for their unique and absurd comedic traits that consistently bring laughs. From David Santiago's annoying yet funny dynamic with Amy to memorable characters like Mlepnos and Debbie Fogle, Brooklyn Nine-Nine's minor characters contribute to the show's comedic brilliance.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine includes many hilarious minor characters, like Mlepnos and Doug Judy, who make me laugh every time I rewatch the show. While The Office is typically considered the best workplace sitcoms, the 2010s were the height of this genre, bringing about great shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Behind Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is my favorite show within this subgenre due to the eccentric characters and their antics.

In addition to the lovable main characters of Brooklyn Nine-Nine,...

Mufasa Director Barry Jenkins Praises Brooklyn Nine-Nine Star Who Wrote The Lion King Prequel’s Songs: “He did a really, really wonderful job”
Image
Filmmaker Barry Jenkins, the mastermind behind critically acclaimed pieces of work like Moonlight and If Beale Street Could Talk, is returning to the big screens. This time, he has another presumed masterpiece prepared for fans, which is also the prequel to the live-action The Lion King from 2019: Mufasa: The Lion King. That being said, he has quite a bit to talk about the upcoming movie.

But of all the factors that have contributed to the making of this soon-to-be-released adventure musical, Jenkins is incredibly grateful to one Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor who was the genius brains behind the songs for his movie. This actor is none other than the 44-year-old songwriter cum actor renowned for masterpieces like 2020’s Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Barry Jenkins is Grateful to Lin-Manuel Miranda for Mufasa‘s Music

Before directing Mufasa: The Lion King, director Barry Jenkins was very cautious with helming musicals.

Lin Manuel Miranda’s Brooklyn 99 Cameo Sets Up A Great Meta Joke
Image
Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Brooklyn 99 cameo could’ve set up a great meta joke about Hamilton. Introduced in season 6, Miranda guest stars as Amy’s brother David Santiago. Miranda’s cameo is a tribute to his love of the show, with him showing support for the show after Brooklyn 99’s initial cancelation. However, Gina mentions in season 4 that she loved the musical Hamilton. While shows and movies have meta references like this all the time, Miranda’s cameo actually made sense in the Brooklyn 99 universe.

A police lieutenant, the Brooklyn 99 character David is introduced to be the Santiago family’s golden child because of all of his achievements. Amy considered him her rival growing up and despite her own outstanding career, it’s clear that David is more impressive in their mother’s eyes. Since Gina confirms Hamilton does exist, it begs the question of who created it in this universe.

Lin-Manuel Miranda at an event for Moana (2016)
If Lin-Manuel Miranda wins Emmy for ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ guest spot, it would be his first major award as an actor
Lin-Manuel Miranda at an event for Moana (2016)
Lin-Manuel Miranda has three Tonys, three Grammys, an Emmy and a Pulitzer Prize, so it might be easy to overlook the fact that the awards magnet has yet to win a major award for his acting. But he’s an Emmy contender this year for guest-starring on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” and one of the Expert journalists we’ve polled think that’ll finally do the trick.

Miranda appeared on “Brooklyn” in the episode “The Golden Child” as David Santiago, who needs his sister Amy (Melissa Fumero) to help clear his name. Most of our Experts predict he’ll be nominated for the role, but Kelly Lawler (USA Today) is currently the only one who thinks he’ll win. Most of the other Experts are divided between Peter MacNicol (“Veep”) and John Mulaney (“Saturday Night Live”).

A review of this week’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine, “The Golden Child,” coming up just as soon as I give myself a Dickensian backstory…

During that dark and strange two-day period last spring after Fox had canceled Nine-Nine, but before NBC rescued it, the show’s celebrity fans came out in force, none more loudly than Hamilton mastermind Lin-Manuel Miranda:

NFL Players Protest National Anthem in Several Pre-Season Games
During at least two NFL pre-season games Thursday night, several players protested during the national anthem despite the league’s attempts to clamp down on the practice.

At the game between the Miami Dolphins and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dolphins wide receivers Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson knelt, while defensive end Robert Quinn stood with his fist raised.

The players’ protests came just one day after the team submitted a nine-page disciplinary document to the NFL that discussed possible punishments for anthem protests, including fines or suspensions.
