Plínio Profeta is a composer, musician, and music producer, widely recognized as one of Brazil's most talented and innovative creators for film and television. His career began in Los Angeles in the early 2000s, where he earned a Latin Grammy for his work as a producer and musician on Lenine's album "Falange Canibal."
Upon returning to Brazil, he collaborated with renowned artists such as Pedro Luis, O Rappa, Lucas Santanna, Xis, Lobão, Sandra de Sá, and Tiê. His successful transition from music production and performance opened doors for him to compose and produce music specifically for film and television.
Profeta has composed original music for over 80 audiovisual productions, earning significant recognition including two Brazilian Academy of Cinema awards for Best Original Soundtrack-"O Palhaço" (2011) and "O Filme da Minha Vida" (2018)-as well as numerous other national accolades. Among his notable projects are "Minha Mãe é Uma Peça" (2013) and "Cilada.com" (2011), two of Brazil's highest-grossing films. The documentary "Divinas Divas," for which he composed the soundtrack, received the Best Global Film Award at SXSW in 2016.
The past few years have been exceptionally prolific for Profeta. In 2023, he composed music simultaneously for multiple acclaimed films and series, notably "Nosso Sonho: Claudinho e Buchecha," which became a box office sensation. In 2024, he achieved international recognition with the series "Betinho: No Fio da Navalha" (Formata Produções/Globoplay), selected for the Berlinale Series Market and nominated at the Cannes International Series Festival. That same year, he composed music for Netflix's teen series "Back to 15" and for the feature film "The Hijacking of Flight 375." He was also honored with an invitation to join The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
In 2025, Profeta composed the original score for the HBO/MAX series "Scars of Beauty (Beleza Fatal)," which ranked number one in 15 countries. Several additional projects are set to be released in 2025, including the sixth season of the acclaimed series "Sessão de Terapia," directed by Selton Mello; the mini-doc series "Chico Anísio"; the documentaries "Nada a Fazer" by Leandra Leal and "Time to Change" by Sabrina Fidalgo; the miniseries "Juntas e Separadas" by Mini Kerti; and the feature films "Pecadora," "Querido Mundo" directed by Miguel Falabella.
