There are murmurs popping up that DC and Warner Bros. might be taking another stab at the holy grail of comic-book-to-movie movements: an accurate, widely accepted film version of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen. As reported by Cbr, Warner Bros. recently released a survey to its “A-List” mailing list, asking for opinions on an R-rated, faithful animated adaptation of the classic graphic novel.

It’s been eight years since Zack Snyder’s live-action adaptation of Moore’s book earned a polarized response from critics and audiences, who were torn on the film’s loving relationship with its own violence and oozing style. The animated version would presumably sidestep that by doing everything in its power to capture Moore’s pacing and Gibbons’ art, something DC has previously attempted with its Dark Knight Returns and Killing Joke adaptations (generally to mixed effect).

It is no surprise that the majority of items featured in the DC Collectibles booth were related to characters appearing in Justice League, Wonder Woman, and Suicide Squad. One of the most impressive items was a beautifully sculpted statue depicting Harley Quinn and Batman fighting atop a runaway roller coaster. This piece is notable not only for the extreme detail but also for something it doesn’t include: Mr. J. Sure the Joker’s face appears on the coaster cart but it is quite refreshing to see a statue depicting a showdown just between Bats and Harley, and her pet hyenas Bud and Lou.

Last summer, DC Comics fans saw a new version of the iconic villain The Joker with Jared Leto's performance in Suicide Squad. While the movie was a critical disappointment, a sequel is still believed to be in development at Warner Bros. A report surfaced in August, just weeks after the movie hit theaters, claiming Jared Leto was unhappy with the finished version of Suicide Squad, casting doubt on his return in a sequel and/or any other DC Comics movies. That may not be the case, as the actor sent out a couple of cryptic photos through social media earlier today. Suicide Squad has done well for Warner Bros., despite very negative reviews, so they are moving ahead with their DC Extended Universe, and they have a lot more planned than many of us may know about. The controversial animated film Batman: The Killing Joke made a bundle in its limited two-day theatrical run, grossing $3.8 million on Monday and Tuesday night. Warner Bros. and Fathom Events showed the movie in 1,325 theaters on Monday night, followed by an encore performance in 810 locations on Tuesday night, timed to its release on DVD and Blu-Ray. Last month, we reported that DC was working on an animated film about the Justice League Dark team, a group of magic-based heroes who handle the threats that are too spooky for the regular Justice League. Now, with that controversial Killing Joke adaptation wrapped up—you know, the one that even the people who made it seem to hate—DC has officially announced Justice League Dark as its next animated feature. As that original report said it would, the confirmation comes from a behind-the-scenes featurette included on the Killing Joke disc, and it gives a quick introduction to the basic setup of the Dark team and a preview of which DC characters will show up.

Batman will be there, of course, appearing alongside John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Zatanna, Deadman, Etrigan, and Black Orchid. Also, as a fun surprise, the animated Constantine will be played by none other than Matt Ryan...

Sex and violence gets headlines, but it sure doesn't guarantee a good movie. Warner Bros. Animation comes up woefully short in their R-rated adaptation of Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's classic comic, Batman: The Killing Joke. The disturbing origin story of the Joker is muddled with soap opera level melodrama. Batgirl is conceptualized as smitten and unsophisticated. This was a poor arc to introduce in the boundary breaking narrative of her character. An opportunity was wasted to tell this grim tale with gravitas.

The Killing Joke opens with Barbara Gordon (Tara Strong) three years into her 'relationship' with Batman (Kevin Conroy). She works as a librarian by day, shunning suitors, and dishing to her gay bestie/coworker. She's infatuated with her yoga teacher, aka the Dark Knight, who likes to be in control. She's fine with that, most of the time. They haven't gone all the way yet. It's not that kind of relationship,...

The new Justice League footage is a less serious than anything in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, but that’s not really saying much. If it’s still too serious for you, though, it sounds like The Lego Batman Movie will prove once again just how versatile the Dark Knight can really be. Lego Batman director Chris McKay underlined this point during Warner Bros.’ Comic-Con panel, explaining that he wants the movie to be “About A Boy as directed by Michael Mann.”

That’s an appropriate comparison, considering that the panel also showed off some new footage that featured the introduction of Michael Cera’s Lego Robin, who reportedly annoys Batman by repeatedly calling him “Dad.” The footage also featured a Lego Barbara Gordon, who Batman introduced as his “platonic bat-friend,” an especially weird line given that Killing Joke stuff. Fans have been patiently waiting for more information on the highly-anticipated “Twin Peaks” revival. Few details are known about what’s to be expected, but now we have a couple more to add to the list. During the San Diego Comic-Con panel for “Batman Killing Joke,” Ray Wise, who portrayed Leland Palmer in the original series, mentioned that the revival would be released by Showtime in the summer of 2017. Though that time frame has not been confirmed by the network.

He also stated that there would be a total of 18 episodes, all to be directed by David Lynch, and that he would be in all of them. The number of episodes does match the number listed on IMDb.

The Killing Joke has been a contentious point in Batman comics history because many people view the way The Joker paralyzes Barbara Gordon (aka Batgirl) as a symptom of a larger negative attitude toward women in comics. You can read all about the controversy here. It's tough to argue with that assessment, especially considering that the story was meant to be a one-off but Barbara ended up remaining paralyzed and taking on the role of Oracle in canon after that.

In just a few short weeks, fans from all over the world will be descending upon Comic-Con 2016 in San Diego, to get a glimpse at some of the most highly-anticipated movies and TV shows. One of the Con's annual traditions is the world premiere of a new Warner Bros.' DC animated movie, with the studio unveiling Batman: The Killing Joke this year. While we get ready for the premiere, and its release on Blu-ray and DVD on August 2, the studio has released the first clip, featuring Batman and his iconic nemesis, The Joker.

The clip debuted during the latest episode of DC Entertainment's YouTube series DC All Access, featuring Batman (Kevin Conroy) visiting Arkham Asylum, to have a little chat with The Joker (Mark Hamill). We also get a glimpse at Harvey Dent's cell, with this villain's hand reaching through the bars to scratch at his prison cell door.

A new listing from the BBFC indicates that the next direct-to-video feature title from WB Animation, after the release of "Batman: The Killing Joke" this Summer, will be a "Justice League Dark" adaptation.

The BBFC classification indicates 'Killing Joke' will boast a sneak peek at Jld. What impact that will have Guillermo del Toro's long gestating live-action adaptation s unclear though likely negligble.

Over at rival camp Marvel, Variety reports that Marvel Animation is working on a pair of TV shorts series - "Ant-Man" and "Rocket and Groot" - wth both being done by French filmmakers. Ugo Bienvenu and Kevin Manach will do "Ant-Man" while Arnaud Delord is working on 'Groot'.

Last week, Warner Bros. gave fans a new look at the highly-anticipated DC Universe Original Movie Batman: The Killing Joke, which is the first DC animated movie to be Rated R. Anticipation for this adaptation of Alan Moore's iconic graphic novel has been growing ever since. But the studio hadn't announced a release date until today. We have a new photo of The Joker, voiced by Mark Hamill, the Blu-ray artwork, and word that this superhero adventure will hit Blu-ray August 2.

Entertainment Weekly has unveiled this new photo of The Joker, along with details about the bonus features that will be included on the Blu-ray and Digital HD (which debuts a few weeks earlier on July 23). The deluxe edition will include bonus episodes of The New Batman Adventures and Batman: The Animated Series, along with two featurettes, Madness Set to Music and Many Shades of the Joker: The Tale of the Killing Joke.

Concept artist Phil Bourassa has revealed via his Instagram account that an animated adaptation of Alan Moore and Brian Bollan's iconic graphic novel "Batman: The Killing Joke" was being developed back in 2009 by Warner Brothers.

Legendary animation artist and "Batman: The Animated Series" producer Bruce Timm was developing the project and supervising Bourassa's work on the project. Whiether Timm, who directed the much acclaimed "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" as well as iconic animated Batman episodes like "Heart of Ice," was going to helm isn't clear.

Why did the project collapse? The failure of the R-rated "Watchmen" at Warners put the fear in the studio over R-rated superhero movies. Cut to seven years later and "Deadpool" is at the top of the box-office while Timm's protege Sam Liu is slated to helm an upcoming Dcau direct-to-disc & VOD adaptation of "The Killing Joke" which is currently on the way.

Now we've got some more to report about the film, which has hardcore fans foaming at the mouth due to the legacy of Moore's book.

One of the film projects I'm most excited about seeing this year is DC Entertainment's animated adaptation of Batman: The Killing Joke. The movie will be based on Alan Moore's comic, which is one of the darkest Batman stories ever told. It's so dark that the movie might get slapped with an R-rating. A few months ago, producer James Tucker revealed that Warner Bros. gave them permission to make an R-rated animated film. Due to the subject matter of the comic, it seems like it would be hard not to get that kind of rating. It didn't mean the movie would be rated R, though. Concept Artist Phil Bourassa has taken to Instagram to reveal that back in 2009, he was working on an animated adaptation of  Alan Moore and Brian Bollan's Batman: The Killing Joke.  The film was being developed by the legendary Bruce Timm however, Warner Bros. pulled the plug.  Said Bourassa,--- "In 2009 I started working on an animated adaptation of The Killing Joke under the supervision of legendary Animation artist Bruce Timm. Two weeks into the project we were told to stop development because The Watchmen had under performed at the box office and WB had lost faith in R rated superhero movies. Happy to say that you guys are gonna finally get your animated Killing Joke adaptation in 2016. Apparently enough money has been made from superhero movies and adaptations of comics of every stripe that it now transcends the previously assumed limitations of the genre. It's a good time to be a comic geek!

Looks like Warner Bros. has held an early test screening for Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and it looks like one fan just couldn't stop himself from saying anything about it. It's not uncommon for a studio to hold a test screening for a film like this, but it looks like this guy decided to violate the Nda. In fact, the person used a throw-away Reddit account that he named "ViolatingNDA." That being said, we don't know for sure if this person actually did attend a screening, but if he did, he definitely had some things to say about it!

Obviously, when you see that an entire movie is being reviewed, you can expect Spoilers. An anonymous Reddit user claims to have seen Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in its entirety. And he has some solid proof to back it up. What proof is that, you may ask? Well, he's provided his GoFobo ticket. Though, the Warner Bros. movie in question is not named. So we'll still have to file this under rumor. Let's say Mr. ViolatingNDA did see the movie. The next obvious question is, did he love it?

While our reviewer in question did like the movie, he thought it was too long. Though he uses Star Wars: The Force Awakens as a comparison, and most fans thought that movie was too short. An early review of Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice has surfaced on Reddit today, coming to us from someone who apparently screened the film last night in Los Angeles. Batman: The Killing Joke producer James Tucker has revealed that the much-anticipated adaptation of the graphic novel might be the superhero's first R-rated movie.

At Friday's (October 9) New York Comic-Con of Batman: Bad Blood panel, Tucker announced that they are allowed to make The Killing Joke an R-rated animated film.

But while Warner Bros has given Tucker and his team the permission for the rating, Tucker added that it doesn't mean he will make The Killing Joke R-rated.

Created by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland, The Killing Joke goes into details of the Joker's origin story. It was released in 1988 as a one-shot comic book.

The various direct-to-video DC animated movies of recent years have generally been getting darker and more adult, opting to keep the gritty and violent elements of the comic stories upon which they are based. Even so, most of them have been able to maintain a PG-13 rating.

That's not the cast with the upcoming "Batman: The Killing Joke" though as word out of New York Comic Con is that Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has allowed the filmmakers to essentially go as dark and R rated as they need to.

Stitch Kingdom tweeted: "DC gave permission to make Killing Joke movie for R rating. Just to clarify, [producer] James Tucker said he was given okay to make Killing Joke for R rating but added that doesn't mean he will." The DC animated movies have never been targeted at kids. They are gritty and violent. And usually stick pretty close to the comic books upon which they are based. So it should come as no surprise that DC has given the filmmakers behind the upcoming Batman: The Killing Joke movie permission to be as R rated as they need to be. After learning that Warner Bros. was going to adapt The Killing Joke as an animated film, fans immediately began hoping that the iconic voice of Mark Hamill would return to portray the Joker in the villain's most memorable story.  Looks like fans are getting their wish.  

Earlier we reported from Sdcc that The Killing Joke, one of Batman's most famous comic book stories was on schedule to be a WB animated movie. In the report it was rumored that Mark Hamill would return as Joke since he stated he would love to do the movie. 

Well rumor is true! Mark Hamill will be returning to voice the animated Joker. According to Collider, the actor has already voiced his lines for the movie set to release next year. 

This is absolutely fantastic news as fans know he does the absolute perfect Joker voice there is. He is creepy, scary, and fits the role so well.
