Sequel To Sam Raimi-Produced Alligator Horror Movie With 84% Rt Score Gets Encouraging Filming Update From Director
Image
Following the surprise announcement of its development, Alexandre Aja has a promising update on Crawl 2's filming timeline. Aja helmed the original 2019 horror movie and produced it alongside Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi, with the movie centering on Kaya Scodelario's Haley as she and her estranged father became trapped in their old family home during a Category 5 hurricane with alligators swarming in to attack. Crawl saw largely positive reviews from critics, holding an 84% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and was a box office sleeper hit, grossing $91 million against its reported $15 million production budget.

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter for the Halle Berry-led horror movie Never Let Go, Aja was asked about progress on Crawl 2's development. The producer/director started off by recalling how he "never really stopped working on Crawl", having continued to formulate ideas for how to make a sequel to his original...

Why Crawl 2 Is Happening Without The Original Cast Returning
Image
Crawl 2 won't feature the original cast due to a new setting and story, honoring the first film's ending. Introduction of new characters in Crawl 2 is a better choice to maintain believability and motivation. While original stars won't return, Crawl 2 can still honor them by referencing their characters in the sequel.

Crawl 2 is finally happening, but many fans of the original horror film are wondering why the Crawl sequel won't have the original cast return. The modest horror film from 2019 turned out to be a big hit upon its release, with the original Crawl garnering an incredibly positive critical reception as well as a surprisingly impressive box office despite its seemingly goofy premise. Due to the success of the original, Crawl 2 is officially happening, although its entirely new cast of characters will provide a major twist due to the lack of returning characters.

Five years after the release of the original movie,...

Paramount Pictures is teaming up again with filmmaker Alexandre Aja to make Crawl 2
Image
Calling all horror fans, we need your attention! We have some very good news to share. This just in: a sequel to the 2019 box office hit Crawl is in the works at Paramount Pictures with French filmmaker Alexandre Aja back to direct. More on this upcoming horror film below.

Titled Crawl 2, the sequel is reportedly in development at Paramount, with Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan (Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension and Project Almanac) writing the screenplay. As mentioned above, Aja, who directed and produced the first film, will helm the sequel. He will be producing alongside Craig Flores and Sam Raimi, who also produced the first movie. In addition, Gregory Levasseur and Zainab Azizi are signed as executive producers.

Unlike Crawl, which centered around a father-daughter duo trying to survive a gator attack while trapped inside their Florida home during a hurricane, Crawl 2 will see a switch of locations to the Big Apple,...

New $91 Million Alligator Movie Sequel Can Bring A Great Urban Legend To Life
Image
Crawl 2's New York setting hints at sewer alligators, a popular urban legend ripe for a terrifying film adaptation. Sewer alligators offer Crawl 2 a chance to reinvent the franchise and bring a fresh, high-concept horror premise. By moving the action from Florida to New York, Crawl 2 sets itself apart and could stand out as a standalone horror hit.

The upcoming sequel Crawl 2 is making the surprising move to the urban setting of New York City and that surely means its adapting a popular urban legend for the big screen. Back in 2019, the alligator-infested thriller Crawl made quite a splash (pardon the pun), both critically and commercially, so its no surprise that Paramount is cooking up a sequel (via The Hollywood Reporter). The original movies Alexandre Aja is back in the directors chair for Crawl 2, working from a script by Project Almanac and Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension writers Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan.

Crawl 2 officially in development, Alexandre Aja returning to direct
Alexandre Aja at an event for Horns (2013)
Alexandre Aja is returning for more alligator action as Crawl 2 starts taking shape at Paramount. More on the sequel below.

2019’s Crawl was an effective thriller in which Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper found themselves going head-to-head with some nasty alligators. The film scared up an impressive $91.5m at the box office on a budget of just $14m.

Talks about a sequel started almost right away, but the last we heard about any concrete plans was in 2021 when director Alexandre Aja talked about the possibility of returning to gator-infested waters with a brand new story and new characters.

Now, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Aja is officially on board for Crawl 2 and Paramount Pictures is looking to shoot the film this fall in Europe. Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan are on script duties, but there’s no official word on the plot yet. However, THR seems to have sources who...

Crawl 2 Announced with Alexandre Aja Directing, Will Head to New York
Image
Paramount Pictures has finally broken their silence about the highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 horror hit Crawl. Directed by Alexandre Aja, who also helmed the original film, Crawl 2 will deliver the same intense, action-packed horror that made the first one such a hit. As a fan favorite horror director, Alexandre Aja made a name for himself in the horror community directing modern classics like High Tension and Piranha 3D. Aja is also producing the film alongside horror legend Sam Raimi, who also produced the first Crawl. Raimi's involvement ensures that the sequel will maintain the same level of quality. Joining Aja and Raimi are screenwriters Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan, who are normally known for their found footage work.

One of the most exciting aspects of Crawl 2 is the new setting. While the original film takes place in the humid, wet hell of Florida where the characters were trapped...

Horror Sequel Crawl 2 Is Finally Happening With An Unexpected Setting
Image
Aquatic horror has provided us with some all-time great flicks, especially when looking at all of the homages and blatant knock-offs in the wake of "Jaws." Trying to evoke the feeling of Bruce the shark attacking a boat is one thing, doing it well is something else entirely. For the most part, filmmakers have accepted that "Jaws" was lightning in a bottle and chosen to take a different approach to apex predators in the water, embracing the B-movie sleaze of old-school monster movies and delivering a story as bonkers fun as terrifyingly exhilarating. While it's highly unlikely a person will be attacked by a shark, bear, alligator, or bear hopped up on cocaine at any point in their lives, the possibility is still greater than a zombie apocalypse or a werewolf.

In 2019, Alexandre Aja kicked things up a notch with "Crawl," a thrilling, blast-and-a-half flick about a young woman trapped...

John Wick Co-Director's New Action Movie Classified Is Die Hard Meets Indiana Jones
Image
John Wick director Chad Stahelski has lined up a new project that sounds like every action fans dream. Titled Classified, the project has been described as a "high octane thriller" (could it really be anything else with Stahelski at the helm?) that was reportedly pitched as "Die Hard meets Indiana Jones". Combining two of the most beloved action and adventure movies in cinematic history should be more than enough to have excitement levels palpable.

The comparison to these action movie gems becomes clear very quickly when reading the general plot of Classified. The story will be set in a top-secret military bunker similar to the famous warehouse where the Ark of the Covenant was stored at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Much like that warehouse before it, this bunker will contain relics retrieved during World War II that turn out to be incredibly powerful and dangerous.

‘John Wick’ Director Chad Stahelski to Direct Action-Thriller ‘Classified’ at New Line
Chad Stahelski
New Line has picked up the action-thriller pitch “Classified” with “John Wick” director Chad Stahelski attached to direct, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.

Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan will write the screenplay.

The log line for “Classified” describes the project as a “high octane, cat-and-mouse thriller, in the vein of ‘Die Hard’ meets ‘Indiana Jones,’ set inside a top secret government bunker that contains relics covertly recovered during World War II — that turn out to be more powerful and dangerous than ever imagined.”

Stahelski is about to start shooting the fourth installment of the “John Wick” franchise after directing the first three films. He is also currently in development on a reboot of the cult classic “Highlander.” Stahelski is a self professed “Highlander” fan, who first watched the 1986 action-fantasy film starring Sean Connery when he was in high school. The film, which spawned the catchphrase “There can only be one,...

Unexplained Phenomenon next from Power Rangers director
Joseph Baxter Oct 11, 2017

Dean Israelite, the helmer behind the 2017 Power Rangers reboot movie, will direct the sci-fi film, Unexplained Phenomenon.

While the 2017 Power Rangers reboot movie didn’t quite turn out to be a lucrative generations-crossing property tentpole, it did serve as a mainstream coming out party for its director, Dean Israelite. Now, the helmer puts down his proverbial power morpher to move on to a different avenue of the sci-fi genre, attached to the mystery movie, Unexplained Phenomenon.

He will work off a script by Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan, the duo who wrote the (uncharacteristically cinematic,) 2015 found-footage horror franchise sequel Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension and, in the same year, teen time travel film Project Almanac, which Israelite directed. They are joined by Amblin Partners producers Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona.

Unexplained Phenomenon (titled after the FBI’s classification of unsolved incidents,) is reportedly a fact-inspired film, centering...

Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat in Paranormal Activity (2007)
Review: Can the final 'Paranormal Activity' wrap the series up with some dignity?
Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat in Paranormal Activity (2007)
Who knew you could get this much mileage out of a ghost named Toby? Nine years ago this week, Oren Peli started production on "Paranormal Activity," which was made for $27, a box of Band-Aids, and three plates of ham sandwiches. Truly independent in every way, the film premiered a year later at ScreamFest, and then… didn't come out for two more years. While "Paranormal Activity" is a remarkable success story, it's also not an instant one. Peli had to struggle to get his film from that first screening to a major theatrical release, and there were plenty of fine-tuning that had to be done to get it there. "Paranormal" has many godfathers, and by the time the film came out in 2009, it had been through many hands. The result, though, has been one of the biggest horror franchises in recent memory, and it laid the foundation for Jason Blum's entire horror empire.

Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension review

Meet the Paranormal Activity film that promises to wrap the series up! Here's our review of The Ghost Dimension...

This is a spoiler-free review, which includes plot details from the previous five instalments in the Paranormal Activity series.

Back in 2009, Paramount masterminded a revolutionary marketing campaign for Oren Peli's micro-budget found footage horror movie Paranormal Activity. With endorsements from the likes of Steven Spielberg, it was arguably the most hyped film of its year and certainly the most profitable, returning $193m on a $15,000 budget.

Sequels abounded and the films comfortably usurped the annual Halloween slot occupied by the Saw franchise over the course of the following three sequels. 2013 was supposed to see two Paranormal Activity movies - a “Latin-American oriented” spin-off at the beginning of the year and then a fifth instalment at Halloween as usual, but the cool reception to Paranormal Activity 4 apparently led...

‘Project Almanac’ Review
Stars: Jonny Weston, Amy Landecker, Sofia Black-d’Elia, Virginia Gardner, Sam Lerner, Allen Evangelista, Gary Weeks | Written by Jason Pagan, Andrew Deutschman | Directed by Dean Israelite

Despite all the praise heaped on it on release, I was never really a fan of Josh Tranks found-footage superhero movie Chronicle. So when Project Almanac was initially announced as a “found-footage time travel movie” I was less than enthusiastic. Imagine my surprise then when the film turned out to not only be a fantastic time travel movie but also one of the best found-footage films Ever made. For me it’s even better than the grand-daddy of them all, The Blair Witch Project.

Project Almanac tells the story of David (Johnny Weston), a brilliant high school student whose skills get him a place at MIT; however a lack of funds means that he can’t attend the only school that will push him academically.

Captain America: Civil War & Story of Your Life: According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jeremy Renner will appear as Hawkeye in Captain America: Civil War. The plot's inclusion of the Superhero Registration Act means we should see a large number of superheroes in the sequel, with Chadwick Boseman's first appearance as Black Panther confirmed and Spider-Man's involvement likely. Project Almanac review: Michael Bay blends Chronicle and Back to the Future
Sam Lerner, Allen Evangelista, Jonny Weston, and Virginia Gardner in Project Almanac (2015)
Director: Dean Israelite; Screenwriter: Jason Pagan, Andrew Deutschman; Starring: Jonny Weston, Sofia Black-d'Elia, Sam Lerner, Allen Evangelista, Virginia Gardner; Running time: 106 mins; Certificate: 12A

Imagine Back to the Future meets Chronicle seen through the eyes of Michael Bay and you've pretty much landed on the latest offering from the found footage factory, Project Almanac.

Bay produces this movie through his Platinum Dunes production company and, though first-time director Dean Israelite initially has fun with Project Almanac's nifty premise, the film's inevitable descent into 'Bayhem' prevents it from being anything other than fast-forgotten entertainment.

Jonny Weston leads the cast as David, a geeky high-schooler who discovers time machine blueprints left by his late father. With his pals Quinn (Sam Lerner), Allen (Adam Le), sister Christina (Virginia Gardner) and school crush Jessie (Sofia Black-d'Elia), they construct the device and start pinballing across the space-time continuum.

It's around the 40-minute mark before...

'Project Almanac' (2015) Movie Review
I don't think I could even begin to attempt to explain how the time travel is supposed to work in director Dean Israelite's Project Almanac, but it's not as if it matters. A group of teenagers stumble on blueprints telling them how to make a time machine, they make it, use it to get rich, popular and to party at Lollapalooza. What's not to understand about thatc Of course, when things begin to go wrong, and one of them attempts to fix things on his own, it's no longer fun and games. Yes, the butterfly effects is in full... ahem... effect. Told using the found footage style of filmmaking, Project Almanac is never going to come together logically, but that doesn't stop it from being a harmless little time travel feature that does tend to wear thin and overstay its welcome once things begin to fall apart for the group of five teens.

‘Project Almanac’ Review: The Good Outweighs the Gimmicky in This Time-Travel Thriller
Sam Lerner, Allen Evangelista, Jonny Weston, and Virginia Gardner in Project Almanac (2015)
Produced by Michael Bay‘s Platinum Dunes, “Project Almanac” is an agreeable and entertaining teen time-travel thriller that’s equal parts Ray Bradbury and John Hughes, as our five teen leads unlock the secrets of “temporal relocation” and then trample through the delicate space-time continuum in pursuit of riches, repair and romance. Directed by Dean Israelite in his feature-length debut, the big conceit of the script and story is that what we’re seeing is all footage recorded by the film’s characters throughout their adventures. It’s a stylistic and shooting decision that adds very little and ultimately distracts...

Pining for those long summer days and blood-splattered nights at Camp Crystal Lake? Looking forward to the next found footage entry in the Paranormal Activity franchise? Initially penciled in for a March 13th,...
