Leave it to Freddie Mercury to defy the odds, right?

Though the musical genius wasn’t alive to see Bohemian Rhapsody hit the big screen, his time-honored legacy was very much present and well within Fox’s biopic, which saw Mr. Robot‘s Rami Malek lend his likeness (and his vocal cords) for what was one of 2018’s best performances. In fact, the film’s now finding itself coming up in some serious Oscar talk, as it scored a huge victory last night at the Golden Globes.

As you’ve surely heard by now, Bohemian Rhapsody walked away with the award for Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama. And though we wouldn’t go so far as to say that either of those prizes was totally undeserved, its wins have definitely sparked some controversy across the web.

Bohemian Rhapsody took home Golden Globes for Best Drama and Best Drama Actor, but nobody mentioned director Bryan Singer during their acceptance speech. While Rami Malek and the rest of the cast and crew of the biopic never mentioned Singer's name, social media did, and found it ironic that a movie that Singer directed ended up winning top honors in the era of #MeToo and Time's Up movements. Despite this backlash, Singer posted a thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press for the Golden Globes awards on social media.

Hey everyone! Sorry I was not around last week I took a mini vacay but now I am back! I am sure you all had plenty to read with Comic-Con and all! Anyways, there's not too much coming out this week but here's a few for you!

 

Clash of the Titans

If he is to save the life of the beautiful Princess Andromeda (Alexa Davalos), the valiant Perseus (Sam Worthington) -- born to a god but raised as a man -- must lead a team of intrepid warriors on a quest to battle a host of powerful, beastly enemies. This sweeping fantasy epic, a remake of the 1981 hit, also stars Liam Neeson as Zeus, Ralph Fiennes as Hades, Danny Huston as Poseidon and Gemma Arterton as Io.

This was not as good as the first one in my opinion. Worth a watch though.

It's so good to finally be able to tell people about Caught Inside. Formally called The Hedonist, and filmed by a dynamic new Australian filmmaking team in the stunning Maldive Islands, the buzz around the film industry Down Under has been strong on this film for a while.

Now, with the news the open water thriller will premiere at the Sydney Film Festival, the filmmakers have released a fantastic trailer which recalls the classic Dead Calm, by that other Aussie, Phillip Noyce. Here's the synopsis: A surf charter to remote paradise. A bunch of mates, uncrowded waves and one rule; leave your girlfriend at home. When this rule is broken, focus turns towards a single female. She flirts with the attention of her captive male audience. Sexual tension, manipulation and deceit erupt into violence. But on a boat in the middle of nowhere you can't run and you can't hide.

This one has been making the international festival rounds for a while, but now Andrew Lancaster's darkly charming debut Accidents Happen is readying to open in Australia we're starting to see some promotional material - beyond the beautiful teaser trailer released last year.

Here we have the new poster, featuring a very startled looking Geena Davis, possibly surprised that her movie career is back on track after a long break, and co-stars Harrison Gilbertson and Harry Cook. Props to Ahmed Salama for the poster design.
