‘Memory Of A Killer’ Drama Series Ordered By Fox As European IP Resurgence Continue
Image
Fox has given a straight-to-series order to Memory of a Killer, a thriller about a hitman who develops early onset Alzheimer’s, for the 2025-2026 season. From writers Ed Whitmore and Tracey Malone, Warner Bros. TV and Fox Entertainment, the series is inspired by the 2003 Belgian film De Zaak Alzheimer (La Memoire Du Tueur), which was remade as the 2022 American action thriller film Memory starring Liam Neeson and directed by Martin Campbell.

Memory of a Killer‘s greenlight follows the series pickup by Fox of hourlong comedy series Best Medicine starring Josh Charles.

The two projects, which emerged as frontrunners on Fox’s development slate earlier this spring to score slots for 2025-26, have something else in common — both are based on European IP as is Fox’s breakout hit of this season, medical drama Doc.

If You Have Elite Taste Like ‘The Godfather’, This 1-Season Anime Thriller Should Be Your Weekend Binge-Watch
Image
Some of the best anime don’t need an expansive universe and go on for decades, they just need one season with a few episodes and a focused plot. 91 Days is one such hidden gem of an anime series, an amazing thriller with a revenge plot that rivals The Godfather franchise, though it isn’t a trilogy and nearly that vast.

91 Days only has 12 episodes, with an additional original video animation, and within this short span, you get a steady storyline with great pacing and a satisfying ending that allows viewers to interpret it for themselves. While most people are frustrated with open endings, 91 Days does it with grace.

The plot might be quite heavy, but it’s worth it. Angelo Lagusa’s story is something you can get quickly invested in from the get-go. You root for his revenge, but also come to know and understand the villains.

John Travolta's Crime Movie With 0% Rt Score Redeemed With High Accuracy Score Since One Expert Was "Very Close" To The Real-Life Mafia Boss
Image
John Travolta is an iconic actor, but his career has taken various twists and turns. The actor rose to stardom in the 1970s when he played a role in the television series Welcome Back, Kotter. His TV fame helped land him his iconic role in the 1977 film Saturday Night Fever, playing smooth-dancing Tony Manero. Soon, Travolta portrayed an equally notable role in the musical Grease as the leading male love interest, Danny Zuko. Travolta has been nominated for two Academy Awards for Saturday Night Fever and Pulp Fiction.

Despite his status as an Academy Award nominee, Travolta has had plenty of misses in his career. The actor has had multiple movies score a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, including Look Who's Talking Now, Speed Kills, The Poison Rose, Staying Alive, and Life on the Line. While these scores were particularly lacking, he boasts a whole additional host of titles with single-digit scores,...

The Acclaimed Gene Hackman Sports Drama Getting A Second Life On Prime Video
Image
It's widely regarded as one of the best sports movies ever made, but there was a time when "Hoosiers" made Gene Hackman fear that he wouldn't work again. The film sees him play Norman Dale, a troubled coach tasked with guiding the Hickory Huskers basketball team to glory. Sounds like a fun rags-to-success story, right? Not for Hackman, who felt his career was on a downward turn in the 1980s and that "Hoosiers" would be its death knell. He was wrong about that, and did pretty well for himself afterwards. What's more, "Hoosiers" is a slam dunk that's still finding new fans in 2025.

According to data obtained by FlixPatrol, "Hoosiers" currently occupies the fifth spot in Prime Video's top 10 chart in the United States, which is a remarkable achievement for a movie that Hackman expected to flop back in the day. It isn't the only Hackman movie to top streaming charts since his passing either,...

Megalopolis Continues Francis Ford Coppola’s Wild Late Career Big Swings
Image
When most cinephiles think of Francis Ford Coppola, they think of his miracle run in the 1970s. During that decade, he directed four films, all of them five-star masterpieces: The Godfather, The Conversation, The Godfather, Part II, and Apocalypse Now. Or they think of embarrassments from his for-hire period, including the Robin Williams weepy Jack. Yet those five films hardly encapsulate the entire career of Francis Ford Coppola, which will likely end with the upcoming Megalopolis. Instead the best indication of Coppola as an artist and filmmaker might be found in the most recent movies he’s made, with Coppola having released three self-produced and self-financed pictures every two years between 2007 and 2011: Youth Without Youth, Twixt, and Tetro.

Although they vary in quality, and none top his work from the ’70s, this independent trio captures the experimental and romantic heart that lies at the center of Coppola’s overall oeuvre.

How The Murder, She Wrote Movie Will Modernize Jessica Fletcher [Exclusive]
Image
What would the cozy crime-solving world of Jessica Fletcher look like if "Murder, She Wrote" were made in 2023 rather than the '80s? Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, the writers of this year's GameStop stocks dramedy "Dumb Money," are prepared to answer that question. The pair have been tapped to write a movie adaptation of "Murder, She Wrote," and while a big-screen version of Cabot Cove may seem antithetical to the weekend binge-watch vibe of the original series, Schuker Blum and Angelo have plenty of ideas about how to bring Jessica into the 21st century.

"We were both kids who were suburban kids who just grew up watching 'Murder, She Wrote,' and anything else that broadcast TV fed to us," Angelo told /Film's Ben Pearson in a recent interview alongside her co-writer. She noted that the big-screen adaptation of the long-running series "has been the love of...

Wolf Man reboot from Leigh Whannell gets 2024 release date as Christopher Abbott takes the lead
Image
Back in 2020, it was announced that Ryan Gosling would be starring in a reboot of the 1941 classic The Wolf Man for Universal Pictures. Blumhouse Productions came on to produce the project soon after, with their The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell signing on to take the helm. When Whannell left the project the following year, Gosling’s Blue Valentine and Place Beyond the Pines director Derek Cianfrance came on board. Then Gosling and Cianfrance both stepped away from Wolf Man earlier this year. But that wasn’t the death knell for the project. In fact, we have just learned that it’s moving full steam ahead, with Whannell back at the helm and Christopher Abbott (Possessor) set to star in the film, which is aiming for an October 25, 2024 theatrical release!

Abbott is taking on the role of a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Dumb Money Writers On The Big Short Comparisons And Elevating TikToks To Cinema [Exclusive Interview]
Image
I've interviewed a lot of people this year for /Film, but none better reflected the energy of the film they wrote than Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, the screenwriters of "Dumb Money." Their enthusiasm and rapid-fire speech patterns, in which they frequently were so excited that they'd finish each other's sentences, was infectious to listen to, and it perfectly aligned with the way their script (and director Craig Gillespie and his editors) unspooled the chaos of the GameStop stock story for the big screen. It also indicated a deep level of comfort these two have with each other as co-workers: Through collaborating together for over ten years, first as investigative journalists and then as screenwriters, they've formed the type of mind-meld that sounds familiar if you've ever read about how the Coen Brothers make decisions on set. There's a shorthand on display, and they each possess the same exact...

Image
Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series spotlighting the year’s most talked-about scripts continues with Dumb Money, directed by Craig Gillespie and penned by financial journalists-turned-screenwriters Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo based on Ben Mezrich’s bestseller The Antisocial Network.

The goal for the Columbia Pictures/Stage 6/Black Bear Pictures production was to make accessible its topic: the short-squeeze tale of GameStop stock, which in 2021 was flailing and destined to become another short-sell win for hedge funds.

That’s where Keith Gill comes in. Played by Paul Dano, he centers the movie’s Pov as he sinks his life savings into GameStop and posts about it on Reddit. HIs tips become a movement, GameStop became the first meme stock, and the hedge-funders lost billions.

Pete Davidson, Vincent D’Onofrio, America Ferrera, Nick Offerman, Anthony Ramos, Sebastian Stan, Shailene Woodley and Seth Rogen also star in the pic, which had its...

Even a small chance of that fantasy turning into reality is too precious to Robert, and when its existence is threatened, you better know there will be severe repercussions.

The Equalizer 3, the third and final installment of the crime-action drama Equalizer franchise, deals with that sort of repercussion, and even in his 70s, Denzel Washington proves his legend-cred by...
