In addition to Toxic Crusaders, fellow ’90s property Street Sharks is also coming back to life here in 2025, with IGN announcing a new comic book series from Idw Publishing.
The five issue limited series will be launching in September, written by Stephanie Williams (Trial of the Amazons) and illustrated by Ariel Medel (Tmnt vs Street Fighter).
Idw previews, “Based on the classic animated series, the upcoming comics will thrill readers as the Sharks protect Fission City from a range of gene-slammed threats, including super-strong and monstrous lobsters and squids, and diabolical mad scientists that transform into vicious piranha monsters. The comic will deliver on everything fans loved from the hit show and the tone of its era, from the Sharks riding cool motorcycles to eating a lot of burgers and metal while swimming through the city’s concrete to take down the bad guys.”

The Street Sharks franchise is set to return in comic book form in 2025. Street Sharks was an animated series about human-shark hybrids who use their unique gifts to fight the forces of evil. Airing from 1994 until 1997, some would call the show a blatant ripoff of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but it nonetheless had a cult following that has helped birth a modern revival.
IGN confirms that Idw Publishing will be reviving Street Sharks as a five-issue limited serieswritten by Stephanie Williams and drawn by Ariel Medel. The first issue's cover art by Philip Murphy, Elizabeth Beals, Kevin Anthony Catalan, and Khary Randolph can be viewed below.
In addition, Idw includes the following synopsis:

Those that know me or have listened to our Corpse Club podcast are all too aware of my undying love for Event Horizon. One of my favorite movies of the 90s, and easily among the best horror / sci-fi movies ever made, fans have always wanted to return to the world created by Paul W.S. Anderson and Philip Eisner nearly 28 years ago. And we're getting our chance this August, with the release of the first of five issues of a brand-new prequel comic book series set in the world of Event Horizon. Titled Event Horizon: Dark Descent, the official prequel comes from Christian Ward, Tristan Jones, Pip Martin, and Idw, and we have all the details:
From the Press Release: "For the first time in almost 30 years, fans can board the Event Horizon for a twisted new tale…
Event Horizon: Dark Descent is the first expansion of the cult horror favorite...
