“Band of Brothers” writer Bruce McKenna is teaming with David Broyles (“Six”) and Nick Jones Jr. (“Yasuke”) to write and produce a limited TV series “Buffalo Rangers” about the 2nd Ranger Company, the only all-Black special operations combat unit in U.S. history. They were notable for their efforts in the Korean War.

The series is being produced by South Korea-based Moving Pictures Company, which has a growing English-language slate. No broadcaster or streamer has been announced.

Producing alongside Broyles, Jones and McKenna are Thomas Suh (through his production company Système D Entertainment), Paul Merryman (“The Outpost”), Debra Martin Chase and Jariko Denman (“The Outpost”), a retired master sergeant with 15 combat deployments.

Tim McCoy, a 2nd Ranger company historian for many years, will serve as a consultant to the project.

Ratings have not been kind to the second season, but there were some big changes to the story of the ten-episode chapter in comparison to Six Season 1.

What hasn't changed is camaraderie between the characters on one of the few shows on television that currently features men supporting other men in a sea of programming that features women doing it all the time.

Six Season 2 began immediately after Rip was shot. The character was ultimately killed, leaving a hole in the cast left by Walton Goggins.

The History Channel has canceled its Navy Seal drama “Six” after two seasons, the network said Friday.

There are still four more episodes left to air in Season 2 of the military action series, which starred Walton Goggins, Kyle Schmid, Juan Pablo Raba and Barry Sloane, among others.

The scripted series followed Navy Seal Team Six on a mission to take out the terrorist network responsible for shooting their former leader Richard “Rip” Taggart, played by Goggins.

William Broyles Jr. and David Broyles created the drama from A+E Studios, and executive produced with Bruce C. McKenna, Alfredo Barrios Jr., George W. Perkins, Meryl Poster and Barry Jossen. Olivia Munn, Eric Ladin, Nikolai Nikolaeff and recurring guest star Erik Palladino joined the cast for Season 2. History has canceled the military drama “Six” after two seasons, Variety has confirmed.

The scripted series followed members of the elite Navy Seal Team Six. In the second season, the team is on a mission to destroy the terrorist network responsible for the shooting of their former team leader, Richard “Rip” Taggart (Walton Goggins).

The series starred Kyle Schmid, Juan Pablo Raba, Barry Sloane, Dominic Adams, Edwin Hodge, Jaylen Moore, Brianne Davis, and Nadine Velazquez. Olivia Munn also joined the show in its second season, along with Eric Ladin and Nikolai Nikolaeff, as well as recurring guest star Erik Palladino. Goggins was prominently featured in Season 1 of the show but appears in just a handful of episodes in Season 2.

William and David Broyles, the executive producers of the History miniseries “Six” discussed having to recast one of their stars, saying that they basically started from scratch. Initially, the miniseries was set to star “True Blood” alum Joe Manganiello, but the actor had to remove himself from the series due to health issues. He was then replaced by “Justified” star Walton Goggins. “It was a different style of acting, so we had to adjust, but we were able to take the series in a different direction,” William Broyles said at the Television Critics Association press tour on Friday. True Blood's Joe Manganiello has been cast in a leading role in History's Six TV series. Barry Sloane was cast earlier this month as John "Bear" Graves. Sloane played Aiden Mathis on the second and third seasons of Revenge, which was cancelled by ABC after four seasons.

The story centers on Navy Seal Team Six and their 2014 mission to eliminate a Taliban leader in Afghanistan, a mission which goes awry when they uncover a U.S. citizen working with the terrorists. Sloane will play Joan "Bear" Graves, the recently appointed leader of Seal Team Six.

The History Channel is looking to embark on a mission with The Weinstein Company. They’ve teamed up for a new military series called Six, which will center on Seal Team Six, the team that brought down the Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in Operation Neptune Spear.

This will be an eight-episode military action drama that will tell the real life stories of the team and their missions, “capturing SEALs’ complex personal lives, and the life and death decisions they make, with each season set in a different location, starting with Africa.” The series is being written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter and Vietnam veteran William Broyles (Castaway, Jarhead) and his son David Broyles, a military special operations veteran. They were obviously brought in because they have first hand experience.

Why are they starting with Africa? Harvey Weinstein said:

“The idea originally came to me when I read about Boko Haram kidnapping school children in Africa.

History is continuing a push into scripted drama following their success with "Vikings" along with event series like "Hatfields & McCoys" and "Sons of Liberty". Now, two more ongoing series have joined the line-up with the network greenlighting two new originals - the Crusade-era "Knightfall" and the military drama "Six".

"Knightfall" will chronicle the mysterious yet truthful accounts of the elite Crusade-era warriors known as the Knights Templar - a group that inspired much fiction from the Arthurian legends to modern day franchises in various formats like "Star Wars" and "Assassin's Creed".

A ten-episode first season of "Knightfall" has been ordered with Jeremy Renner's production company The Combine to produce and "The Avengers" star expected to guest star.
