Disney Stock Gives Up Gains After Proxy Truce, But Wall Street Analysts Hail Bob Iger Reorg And Financial Progress
Image
Disney shares slid into red numbers Thursday after jumping 5 earlier in the day on the news that activist investor Nelson Peltz has ended his proxy fight with the company.

The stock finished at 110.22 on more than triple its normal trading volume. Disney shares have nevertheless risen 24 in 2023 to date, reflecting continued optimism about the company’s prospects under Bob Iger, who returned as CEO last November.

Wall Street analysts applauded the financial progress Disney reported in its quarterly earnings release Wednesday and a news-filled earnings call. Along with the affirmations, though, many analysts have continued to digest the flurry of news, debating the fate of ESPN and Hulu and posing questions they feel Iger & Co. must soon address.

“While we are encouraged by Bob Iger’s strategic vision for Disney, this is clearly the first phase in Disney’s transformation, which will require adept execution,” wrote BofA Securities analyst Jessica...

Why the NFL’s Deal With Apple Is Bigger Than the Halftime Show

The Roger Goodell-led NFL, which long has been among the most conservative of major sports leagues, suddenly finds itself deep in business with big tech. Amazon is now a national media partner, and tech companies are among the bidders on a sliver of its media businesses, including its new subscription service, NFL+.

The latest tech team-up? Apple, in a deal that will see the Apple Music service become the official sponsor of the Super Bowl halftime show, replacing Pepsi after a decadelong run.

The deal is the culmination of a long effort by the NFL to not only turn the halftime show into a major revenue generator (the deal is said to be in the five-year, 50 million-a-year range) but to further expand its place as a cultural moment. Or, as an NFL source told The Hollywood Reporter as the league was weighing its options last year,...

Wolverine Wednesday #20
Dead Man Logan #1 Writer: Ed Brison | Artist: Mike Henderson | Colourist: Nolan Woodard | Letters: Cory Petit

I know this is Wolverine Wednesday but Glob may be my new favourite character. I hope he is around for all twelve issues of this series. By having him involved he provides light relief to what is going to be a bleak and sad story. Also it provides a different angle on Logan’s relationship with the younger X-Men. Over the years we have been used to seeing him with young female sidekicks/protoges, so Glob makes for a change. I’m all caught up on the newly launched Uncanny X-Men too. Also written by Glob it too includes good Glob. Perhaps Brisson can write a Glob mini? On to the issue… It is a well crafted and solid introduction to a twelve issue series. The amount of prior information that is needed for set...

Bendis Debuts And Red Trunks Return In Action Comics #1000
Love him or hate him, you have to acknowledge that every superhero you admire today owes their existence to the Man of Steel – and it all started back in 1938 with the release of Action Comics #1. In those pages, we saw the debut of Superman, who soon went on to completely take over that title and headline an ongoing series of his own.

Originally created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Big Blue has since inspired fans in radio productions, animation, live action cinema and especially the realm of television, which is seemingly never bereft of Kal-El or his supporting characters for too long.

Not surprisingly, DC Comics intend on honoring his enduring legacy this spring with the historic release of Action Comics #1000, the first comic book to organically reach that milestone. (Face it, Deadpool‘s tongue-in-cheek thousandth issue doesn’t count.) And as such, it obviously won’t be your average twenty-odd page release.
