A couple of months ago, it was announced that Josh Hartnett (Trap) would be starring in the Netflix streaming service’s Untitled Newfoundland Project. A couple of weeks ago, we learned that Mackenzie Davis (Speak No Evil) was joining him in the cast. With the six-episode limited series now filming on Canada’s east coast, the names of three more cast members have been revealed. They are Natasha Henstridge (Species), Joshua Close (Unspeakable: The Murder of JonBenet Ramsey), and Charlie Heaton, who recently wrapped up his work on the Netflix series Stranger Things.

Natasha Henstridge and Joshua Close have joined Josh Hartnett in Jesse McKeown’s upcoming untitled Newfoundland series now shooting on Canada’s east coast.

McKeown is the showrunner of the limited series set in Newfoundland, Canada’s easternmost province, and centering on a mysterious sea creature terrorizing a remote seaside town. Close will play Officer Jaxon Noseworthy and Henstridge will play Jan in the series where Hartnett is a hard-bitten fisherman having to fight to protect his family, his community and his vanishing way of life.

The series, which has yet to receive a title, will see Newfoundland play Newfoundland as the rugged and picturesque Atlantic ocean provides the backdrop for the hunt for a sea creature. Amazon Prime’s Reacher and Apple TV’s Severance have also shot in the Canadian province.

Exclusive: Shooting has begun on Season 2 of Canadian cop drama Saint-Pierre and here’s a first-look image from the set.

Hawco Productions started filming the second run of the CBC original series this week on location in Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, France. It will also film in St. John’s Newfoundland.

The police procedural is from Hawco Productions for CBC and CBC Gem in association with Fifth Season, which handles global distribution.

Season 2 will premiere on CBC and CBC Gem in winter 2026 and include two more episodes than in its first season. We revealed news of the second run, along with several other CBC renewals last month.

Newfoundland Limited Series Set At Netflix From Jesse McKeown

Netflix is heading to Newfoundland for its next limited drama series.

The streamer has ordered an untitled, six-part series, set and shot in the Canadian province.

It comes from creator Jesse McKeown, who served as an exec producer of Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy.

The series is set in a remote Newfoundland town, which is terrorized by a mysterious sea creature, and a hard-bitten fisherman must fight to protect his family, his community, and his vanishing way of life.

McKeown will serve as showrunner and will exec produce alongside Chris Hatcher (The Madness) and Sharon Hall (The Expanse). Writers include Karen Walton (Orphan Black), Perry Chafe (St. Pierre) and Natty Zavitz (Edging).

Netflix Orders Untitled Creature Thriller From ‘Umbrella Academy’ Writer

Netflix has greenlit an untitled supernatural creature series from Jesse McKeown, a veteran screenwriter on hit TV series like The Umbrella Academy and 19-2.

Danielle Woodrow and Tara Woodbury, directors of content for Netflix Canada, said of the commission on Thursday: “Jesse’s bold, ambitious vision offers thrills galore, with the heart of a family drama. We can’t wait to transport our members to coastal Newfoundland with this timely story about community, resilience and adaptability.”

McKeown’s TV writing credits include The Big Charade, Robson Arms, Rogue, Republic of Doyle and DaVinci’s Inquest. The Canadian limited series will be set and be shot in Newfoundland, on the country’s Atlantic coast as the six-parter will center on a mysterious sea creature terrorizing a remote town, with a hard-bitten fisherman having to fight to protect his family, his community and his vanishing way of life.

Exclusive: Canada’s CBC has unveiled trailer and premiere date for Saint Pierre, the procedural set on a remote Atlantic island starring and created by Allan Hawco.

Saint Pierre follows Inspector Donny “Fitz” Fitzpatrick (Hawco). After digging too deeply into a local politician’s nefarious activity, he is exiled to work in Saint-Pierre et Miquelon – the French Territory nestled in the Atlantic Ocean. Fitz’s arrival disrupts the life of Deputy Chief Geneviève “Arch“ Archambault, a Parisian transplant who is in Saint-Pierre for her own intriguing reasons and is played by Joséphine Jobert (Death in Paradise). ‘Son Of A Critch’ Season 4 Begins Shooting For CBC

Exclusive: Cameras are rolling on Son of a Critch season 4.

The Canadian comedy was renewed earlier this year for a new 13-part run at public broadcaster CBC and principal photography is now underway in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Based on comedian Mark Critch’s memoir of the same name, the fourth season will follow a 14-year-old Mark, who begins high school on the cusp of the 1990s and once again finds himself on the bottom rung.

The new season will premiere in winter this year on streamer CBC Gem and CBC TV in Canada. Lionsgate Television has rights outside of Canada, and The CW had the previous three seasons in the States. It was officially renewed in May.

Canadian pubcaster CBC rolled out its 40-strong title 2024-25 slate today, with shows from the stars of Baroness Von Sketch and Idris Elba included in the notables.

Also among the highlights were further details on Netflix co-produced comedy North is North and the announcement of a sitcom about hip-hop duo Snotty Nose Rez Kids. The network also revealed its readying 14 local Fast channels, has its Olympic Games plans in place and is welcoming Marvel star Simu Liu to the latest season of Dragon’s Den.

On the programming front, North of North has been handed a winter 2025 premiere date. The series, which has been in the works for some time, follows Siaja (Anna Lambe) as a young Inuk mother who moves to a small Arctic town with her daughter. The CW will air Son of a Critch, which comes from Canada’s CBC and Lionsgate Television, this summer.

‘Son Of A Critch’ Renewed For Season 3 By CBC

Exclusive: Canadian comedy Son of a Critch is establishing itself as a mainstay of CBC’s schedule as it is greenlit for a third season before the second has finished airing.

CBC said Season 2, which finishes next week, is the pubcaster’s most-watched English Canadian comedy series and most-watched show with 18-49 year olds.

The series is produced by Schitt’s Creek’s Andrew Barnsley and created by Mark Critch, who plays a fictionalized version of himself based on his award-winning memoir, with The Office scribe Tim McAuliffe.

The show tells the story of 11-year-old Mark coming of age in St. John’s, Newfoundland in the ’80s, a boy much older inside than his 11 years – using comedy and self-deprecation to win friends and connect with the small collection of people in his limited world.
