Described as a blend of ‘Heat’ and ‘Hell or High Water’, the film marks a dramatic genre shift for Chalamet, who will take on his first full-scale action role. Based on an unpublished short story by Jaime Oliveira, the plot follows Billy, a former motocross racer whose career was cut short by a devastating crash and a turbulent family past. His life takes a dangerous turn when his estranged brother ropes him into a string of bank robberies on superbikes. With the FBI closing in, Billy must use his racing skills for something far...

Sam Nivola just might be living out M. Night Shyamalan’s “Old.” The breakout “The White Lotus” actor is lamenting how difficult it is for rising, younger stars to land roles in Hollywood due to older, more established actors extending their careers by way of plastic surgery; the augmentations allow for actors to play characters who were meant to be years younger than the stars’ themselves. Nivola warns that the cycle is icing out new talent, and might leave a deficit in Hollywood after certain aging actors pass away.
“The old movie stars are getting plastic surgery, and they’re looking younger and they’re staying young,” Nivola told Variety during a recent interview. “You have these really old people playing young roles. And it’s not giving any space for the young’uns to move in and make a name for themselves. With all due respect to those people,...

Paramount Pictures has beaten rival bidders for High Side, a motocross-driven heist thriller that will reunite Timothée Chalamet with director James Mangold, fresh off their eight-Oscar-nominated Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown. The studio secured the package after a short but intense auction that drew multiple majors, signaling strong confidence in the project’s commercial appeal.
Based on an unpublished short story by Jaime Oliveira, the film follows Billy, an ex-MotoGP prodigy whose career-ending crash and fractured family history leave him vulnerable when his fugitive brother recruits him for a string of bank robberies executed on superbikes. Chernin Entertainment is producing, while management outfit Sugar23 shopped the pitch across Hollywood and to publishers, generating parallel interest in a literary deal.
Paramount motion-picture co-chairs Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein praised the script as “bold, original storytelling we’re committed to championing” in a statement released after the deal closed. Insiders...

As for Paramount, the company has been going through some huge changes. Paramount recently merged with Skydance, taking control of its projects. Just this week, on Aug. 7, this meant that the now-merged company would be run by new CEO David Ellison, after previously being helmed by three co-CEOs.
Right after this change, Variety confirmed that Paramount had won the bid for an upcoming Chalamet movie. They will distribute High Side, which is a motocross heist movie. According to the synopsis, Chalamet will lead as a former motocross racer who faces an accident, only...

Quentin Tarantino has diminished the value of Denis Villeneuve‘s Dune movies, citing the repetitive nature of remakes and reboots. However, Villeneuve couldn’t care less about the veteran filmmaker’s opinion. During an interview on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, Qt revealed:
I saw [David Lynch’s] ‘Dune’ a couple of times. I don’t need to see that story again. I don’t need to see spice worms. I don’t need to see a movie that says the word ‘spice’ so dramatically. It’s one after another of this remake and that remake.
But Villeneuve was left unimpressed by such minimization of his work. While speaking at a Q&a panel at the Concordia University film school, the director responded to Tarantino’s comments about his films with a nonchalant “I don’t care.” [The Montreal Gazette]

In his first few minutes as the chief of the newly minted Paramount Skydance, David Ellison took the microphone and mostly deflected a bunch of questions from reporters who’ve followed every dramatic turn of the 13-month journey to close the $8 billion deal to take control of the venerable owner of Paramount Pictures and CBS.
The message from the mogul was urgent: Technology is coming to Hollywood, regardless of whether studios choose to embrace it, so Paramount hopes to take an artist-driven approach to it. That includes machine-learning to help with film and TV show discovery on streaming platforms, as well as an AI influence on “content generation,” but Ellison didn’t go into specifics about what that could mean. In an example cherry-picked for Hollywood, Pixar was cited for revolutionizing the animation world and ushering in an era of 3D animated blockbusters.

Elon Musk’s journey from AI alarmist to AI evangelist has played out noisily on X/Twitter, but now the mercurial billionaire is touting the latest frontier for the technology: a rapid video generation tool that is being used to create deepfake nudes of celebrities.
Grok Imagine was rolled out this week to Apple users and has gone “hyperviral,” with more than 34M images generated in the space of 48 hours, according to Musk. Available through a $30 SuperGrok subscription, users type a text prompt, creating a still image almost instantly. These images can then be turned into a short video using four presets: “Custom,” “Normal,” “Fun,” and “Spicy.”
Of the four, “Spicy” mode quickly garnered attention, turning seemingly innocuous image prompts into lewd snippets. Unlike other generative AI video tools that block celebrity text prompts, Grok Imagine has allowed users to imagine some of the most famous women on the planet in a state of undress.

There are some big movies waiting for James Mangold to make some availability in his schedule, with Dcu’s Swamp Thing and Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi movies being two of the most prominent – and already delayed – on the list. However, according to Deadline, fans will have to wait even longer to see either of these movies begin production as Mangold is reportedly eyeing another movie with Timothée Chalamet first.
Mangold and Chalamet scored a hit with the Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown last year, and now it looks like they will be collaborating again on High Side, a motocross-themed heist thriller drawn from an unpublished Jaime Oliveira short story and now being shopped by Chernin Entertainment. The reports, which are still only suggested at this point, describe the story as being centered on a fallen MotoGP prodigy named Billy who is lured into a string of bank robberies by his estranged brother,...

His costuming and set design have a very specific signature that makes it easy to identify when watching a Wes Anderson movie. With him currently working on a new film, The Phoenician Scheme, which reunites him with his muse Bill Murray, we take a look back at all his feature-length films and try to figure out where they rank. Fresh off the awards season heat surrounding A Complete Unknown, actor Timothée Chalamet and director James Mangold could be gearing up for another movie collaboration. But this time, the pair will explore the world of motorcycle-fueled crime.
Per Deadline, High Side is based on an unpublished short story by Jaime Oliveira and is currently making waves across Hollywood and the publishing world. Sources say Chernin Entertainment is on board to produce, while Sugar23 is shopping the pitch to various studios. If greenlit, the project would reunite Chalamet and Mangold after their Oscar-nominated work on A Complete Unknown, the Bob Dylan biopic that earned eight Academy Award nominations and cemented their creative chemistry.

ThePaddington franchise lost its leading lady when Sally Hawkins, who played Mary Brown, dropped out of Paddington in Peru before it began filming. Now, she's finally opened up about why.
In an interview with The Times (via The Independent) Hawkins said that she felt "so awful" over dropping out of the movie, but felt that her replacement, Emily Mortimer, was "an upgrade" for the cast, which included Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters, Olivia Colman, Antonio Banderas and Ben Whishaw as the voice of Paddington. She elaborated on that as the interview went on.
As it transpired, she dropped out because Paul King, the director of the first two Paddington films, wouldn't be directing the third. “Because I love Paul so much, and love the way he works, it would’ve broken my heart," Hawkins said. She actually knew King before he directed her, having met him at a theater workshop 20 years ago.

Finn Wolfhard was determined to stay in the moment. “Everyone was thinking about the end and was down, and I would just be like, ‘Yeah, but we’re all here hanging out. It’s fine,’” he recalls. “And I would push it away.” On Dec. 20, there was no more denial. He was filming the grand finale on a stage in the show’s Atlanta studio and noticed a massive crowd, including no less than Netflix co-ceo Ted Sarandos, gathering. Among the throng, Wolfhard spotted cast members Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery and Maya Hawke, who all remained in Atlanta even though they wrapped production days earlier. “I turned around from the monitors, and it was hundreds of people just hanging out for the first time in the same room after 10 years of working. And they were just watching,” he remembers. “So if that wasn’t enough of a mindfuck there,...

Before Adam Sandler teed up again in Happy Gilmore 2 on Netflix, his most critically acclaimed movie, Uncut Gems, nearly cast Scarlett Johansson in a lead role opposite Sandler; the role was originally written for newcomer Julia Fox.
In a June episode of the Jay Shetty Podcast, Fox revealed that although the Safdie brothers wrote the character of Julia De Fiore specifically for her, studio executives pushed for bigger names, including Johansson. She said,
I auditioned like everyone else. Unfortunately, even though they had written it for me, the studios were like, ‘We don’t know her.’ They wanted Scarlett Johansson and all these other beautiful women and established actresses.
Despite having doubts about her acting ability, Fox won the part after a screen test with Sandler. She added,

Timothée Chalametis determined to reunite with A Complete Unknown director James Mangold, an exciting new heist thriller could be their next project. The movie star-filmmaker combo has a movie pitch that is getting major buzz around Hollywood, and it could ignite if the right partner is found.
Deadline reports that Chalamet and Mangold are eyeing High Side as their next collaboration, a racing thriller based on an unpublished short story by Jaime Oliveira. Chernin Entertainment, who has frequently partnered up with 20th Century Studios, is attached to produce, but it seems the project is nothing more than a pitch at this stage. However, if it gets picked up, expect Chalamet and Mangold to reunite for the film. If both are indeed involved, we don't imagine it will take long for a studio to bite with a major offer to acquire the package. Chalamet would play a former race driver who gets involved with high-speed robberies.

Hollywood is hung up on Madonna, but a biopic remains a frozen secret. Regardless, the legendary singer’s life is going to make it to screen eventually — although whether it gets to the small or big screen first is yet to be determined. This week, “Weapons” star Julia Garner — who was announced to star in a Madonna movie way back in 2022 — confirmed on the podcast “Smartless” that, in spite of reports to the contrary, the project “Like a Virgin” is still very much in gestation.
“That’s supposed to still happen,” she said (via Variety). Garner was set to star alongside Julia Fox, who would play Madonna Bff and frequent music video co-star Debi Mazar. Fox spoke with IndieWire in 2024 about the movie’s reported shelving by Universal, seeming similarly ambiguous.
“I know it was gonna be either tour or movie and then she went on tour,” Fox said. “So...

Who would you say are the best current action stars? Tom Cruise? Jason Statham? Keanu Reeves? Donnie Yen? Dwayne Johnson? Well, guess what—all of those actors are over fifty. In fact, Cruise, Reeves, and Yen are all over sixty. A few of the most legendary action stars, all of whom are still cranking out movies—like Sylvester Stallone, Jackie Chan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Liam Neeson—are well over seventy. And Harrison Ford, Indiana Jones himself, is in his eighties.
So what, you might say—people get old. Deal with it. And that’s absolutely true. But there’s a huge vacuum in Hollywood that no one really addresses: where are the younger action heroes? Who is going to pick up the mantle once the legends are gone?
Of the names listed above, I’d expect Statham, Reeves, and Cruise to keep making action movies well into their seventies and beyond.

Jason Momoa is preparing to return as Duncan Idaho in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three, but he’s had to do something most of us who regularly sport facial hair hate doing: shaving.
The actor took to Instagram to show himself going clean-shaven for the first time in six years. His reaction is very relatable: “Goddamnit, I hate it.“

Jason Momoa, the unstoppable force behind some of Hollywood’s most iconic roles, has always been instantly recognizable by his signature wild hair and rugged beard. But for Dune: Part Three, the actor went all in and left his trademark look behind. The surprising transformation has left many jaws dropped, but behind the scenes, Momoa isn’t exactly thrilled with the change himself.
No, he didn’t lose his lush, iconic locks. That mane stayed perfectly intact. It was the beard that had to go. In a candid Instagram video shared on July 30, Momoa buzzed off his rugged scruff for the first time in six years. He did this to prepare for filming Dune: Part Three, where he will return as swordmaster Duncan Idaho. The last time he had to go barefaced was 2019, when he first took on the role in Dune.
