In the build-up to Wolf Man's release, the design of the titular monster was seemingly unveiled when photos of a guy in a mask at Universal's theme park attraction found their way online.
Though this did turn out to be the basis for the werewolf that attacks our protagonists in Leigh Whannell's movie, the overall look came across a lot better on screen, and Blake (Christopher Abbott) ultimately transforms into a different beast altogether.
Even so, the "Hills Fever" wolfman's final design still proved to be highly divisive, and a lot of fans simply couldn't get on board with a near-hairless creature that looked far more man than wolf.
We've already seen some alternate creature designs from concept artist Constantine Sekeris, who has now taken to Instagram to share another early sketch. This take on the monster actually looks a little like the Wolfman from Monster Squad!

The Valentine’s Day-set horror romantic comedy Heart Eyes, the latest film from Werewolves Within and Scare Me director Josh Ruben is now in theatres (you can read our 7/10 review Here and watch our interviews with cast members at This Link), and during an interview with our friends at Bloody Disgusting, Ruben revealed that he used writer/director Tom McLoughlin’s 1986 classic Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI as his guide when figuring out how to balance horror and comedy in his own slasher movie.
Heart Eyes has the following synopsis: When the Heart Eyes Killer strikes Seattle, a pair of co-workers pulling overtime on Valentine’s Day are mistaken for a couple by the elusive couple-hunting killer. Now they must spend the most romantic night of the year running for their lives. Ruben previously provided the following statement: “My love of horror is rivaled only by my love of romantic comedies.

The reboot of the classic Universal Monsters property The Wolf Man from Blumhouse Productions and The Invisible Man (2020) director Leigh Whannell reached theatres last month – and JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray wasn’t very impressed with it, giving it a 6/10 review that you can read Here and describing it as “well-acted, but not very scary.” Clearly, he wasn’t the only one who was unimpressed. While The Invisible Man made over $139 million at the global box office, Wolf Man has been crawling toward the $30 million mark. Now, it has been revealed that Wolf Man is set to receive a digital release tomorrow, February 4th, with a physical media release to follow on March 18th.

Valentine’s Day has always been a time for romance, but Heart Eyes, the new slasher film from Spyglass and Screen Gems, is set to drench the holiday in blood. Arriving in cinemas on February 14, 2025 in the UK and Ireland (and February 7th in the US), the film redefines the season of love with a chilling premise: no couple is safe from the deadly “Heart Eyes Killer.”
Directed by Josh Ruben, Heart Eyes centres on the Heart Eyes Killer, a masked figure infamous for his Valentine’s Day killing sprees. For years, he’s targeted romantic couples, turning their celebrations into unspeakable tragedy. This year, the killer adds a macabre twist by stalking a pair of platonic co-workers he mistakenly believes are romantically involved. What ensues is a tense, blood-soaked game of survival as the characters navigate shadowy woods, a drive-in movie theatre, and other sinister settings, all while set...

Director Leigh Whannell gave the classic Universal Monsters a shot of modern life in 2020 with his thrilling new take on "The Invisible Man." In the aftermath of that success, Universal Pictures and Blumhouse set about reinventing another monster in the form of the Wolfman. Originally, Oscar-nominee Ryan Gosling ("Barbie") was set to star in "Wolf Man" that had director Cory Finley ("Bad Education") flirting with the director's chair before Derek Cianfrance ("Blue Valentine") came on board. Things changed a lot along the way, with Whannell ultimately settling into the director's chair. But why did Gosling drop out?
Gosling is still credited on "Wolf Man" as a producer, for what it's worth. Yet, he doesn't appear on screen. Instead, Christopher Abbott stars as Blake, the ill-fated man who becomes a werewolf. In a recent interview with CinemaBlend timed to the film's release, Whannell explained that the film didn't change a lot once Abbott took over.

Horror fans were very excited when it was announced that Leigh Whannell had stepped in to replace the departing Derek Cianfrance as director on Universal/Blumhouse's Wolf Man reboot, since the filmmaker had previously delivered his own take on another classic Universal Monster which proved to be a big critical and commercial hit.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Whannell is going to be able to repeat The Invisible Man's success.
Wolf Man arrived in theaters on Friday amid mostly negative reviews (it currently sits at 54% on Rotten Tomatoes), and the movie has now come in well below its already modest opening weekend box office estimates.
The downbeat werewolf flick was on track for a $17M-$21M bow, but only managed to take in $10.6M over three days (analysts believe it'll hit $12M by Monday).

Leigh Whannell's Wolf Man is now in theaters, and the Universal Monster reboot may be facing an uphill struggle after failing to take a big enough bite out of the box office over the weekend.
We're still waiting on international numbers, but the movie only managed to take in $4.45M on Friday (including Thursday previews) in North America, and is now on track for a $17M-$21M debut. This wouldn't exactly be a disaster for a film with a reported $25 million budget, but audiences really don't seem to be too fussed about this one.
Wolf Man has earned a C- CinemaScore, which is disappointing even for an R-rated horror movie. It's also dropped down to a "rotten" 54% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Again, overseas takings may be a lot better (and that relatively low budget has to be taken into consideration), but as things stand, Disney's Mufasa: The Lion King looks set to claim the No.

Spoilers follow.
The movie begins with an overprotective (borderline abusive) father taking his young son hunting in the dense Oregon woods. After an encounter with an unseen creature, the man becomes obsessed with tracking the monster down.
We then jump forward 30 years, as Blake Lovell (Christopher Abbott) receives a letter informing him that his estranged father has legally been declared dead after going missing in the woods years earlier. Blake convinces his wife Charlotte (Julia Garner) and daughter Ginger (Matilda Firth) to accompany him to his dad's secluded house to pack up his belongings.

On Halloween, Sony Pictures unveiled a red band teaser trailer for the Valentine’s Day-set horror romantic comedy Heart Eyes – and last week, the film’s director, Josh Ruben (who previously brought us Werewolves Within and Scare Me), took to social media to let it be known that the full trailer would be dropping online this week. Heart Eyes is set to reach theatres on February 7, 2025. February 14th is a Friday, so that would seem to be the perfect choice for this movie’s release date, but it was already taken by Disney/Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World, so Sony had to move it to the week before Valentine’s Day. Its competition on that date is the Universal action movie Love Hurts, starring Ke Huy Quan.

Blumhouse and Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell's Wolf Man is set to hit theaters later this month, and tickets for the horror reboot are now officially on sale.
To accompany the announcement, we have some new posters, a TV spot and featurette giving us our best look yet at the other werewolf that Christopher Abbott's Blake will change into.
The new spot includes a (very) quick glimpse of the beast, but the featurette spotlights the full creature design via some concept maquettes. The video also features Whannell and the cast discussing this latest take on the classic Universal Monster.
It's entirely possible that what we've seen of the Wolf Man so far will not be the final form, as Blake could transform into a more lupine-looking creature towards the end of the movie.

What if someone you loved became something else?
From Blumhouse and visionary writer-director Leigh Whannell, the creators of the chilling modern monster tale The Invisible Man, comes a terrifying new lupine nightmare: Wolf Man.
Golden Globe nominee Christopher Abbott stars as Blake, a San Francisco husband and father, who inherits his remote childhood home in rural Oregon after his own father vanishes and is presumed dead. With his marriage to his high-powered wife, Charlotte, fraying, Blake persuades Charlotte to take a break from the city and visit the property with their young daughter, Ginger.
But as the family approaches the farmhouse in the dead of night, they’re attacked by an unseen animal and, in a desperate escape, barricade themselves inside the home as the creature prowls the perimeter. As the night stretches on, however, Blake begins to behave strangely, transforming into something unrecognizable, and Charlotte will be forced to...

It should likely come as no surprise that the upcoming Valentine’s Day slasher Heart Eyes received an appropriate slasher rating, and that R-rated stamp comes ahead of the film’s full trailer arriving next week.
The slasher is set to arrive in theaters on February 7, 2025.
Heart Eyes has been rated “R” for “strong violence and gore, language and some sexual content.”
In the film, “For the past several years, the Heart Eyes Killer has wreaked havoc on Valentine’s Day by stalking and murdering romantic couples. This Valentine’s Day, no couple is safe.”
Heart Eyes’ first red-band teaser signaled an R-rated slasher ahead, complete with a brutal kill, but it’s nice to receive official confirmation that this horror movie will embrace the holiday’s “red“ color scheme via bloodletting and gore.
Josh Ruben is directing the Valentine’s Day-themed horror movie, with Mason Gooding (Scream) and Olivia Holt (“Cruel Summer”) starring.

A couple of leaked screenshots from The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell's Wolf Man reboot have found their way online (via Reddit), and they reveal our first glimpse of the movie's other werewolf.
Our first look at what was assumed to be the titular Wolfman via an actor in a costume at Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights was met with a lot of backlash, but the most recent trailer appeared to confirm that this will be the creature responsible for the initial attack, leaving Christopher Abbott's Blake to change into a different beast altogether.
Whannell addressed the negative response during an interview with NME.
“The marketing department for a movie is so huge,” he said, “it’s really impossible to keep tabs on every single thing. So when something comes out that maybe the internet decides they don’t like, the only thing I can think is: ‘Well,...

There’s a reboot of the classic Universal Monsters property The Wolf Man coming our way from Blumhouse Productions and The Invisible Man (2020) director Leigh Whannell, aiming for a January 17, 2025 theatrical release – and while speaking to Empire, Whannell revealed that he drew inspiration from David Cronenberg’s remake of The Fly when he was crafting his take on this classic werewolf story.
Whannell said, “What The Fly did that a lot of other practical-effects-driven horror movies from that time did not do was bring the tragedy out of these practical effects. It wasn’t a joke in The Fly. It was there to illustrate someone who was dying of an illness. I was like, ‘I’ve got to do that.’ It’s not about being funny or icky or gory. This is about the tragedy of the human body falling apart.“

We're now just over two months away from the release of The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell's Wolf Man reboot, and Universal Pictures UK (via FearHQ.com) has debuted an international trailer featuring quite a bit of new footage.
Our first look at what was assumed to be the titular Wolf Man via an actor in a costume at Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights was met with a lot of backlash, but the first teaser did suggest that this will be the creature responsible for the initial attack, leaving Christopher Abbott's Blake to change into a different beast altogether.
The recent full trailer confirmed that the movie will indeed feature another werewolf, and we catch a new glimpse of the monster (he appears to be more bald than we were expecting!) charging through the trees on all fours in this latest teaser.

Happy Halloween!
To mark the spookiest day of the year, Screen Gems (via Bloody Disgusting) has released the first red band teaser trailer for a new horror movie titled Heart Eyes, and it promises to deliver a bloody Valentine's Day massacre.
Directed by Josh Ruben, the premise focuses on a masked killer known as Heart Eyes who only targets couples.
“My love of horror is rivaled only by my love of romantic comedies," said Ruben in a recent interview. "I’m excited as hell to mount my most challenging genre bender to date: a brutal slasher in a nostalgic rom-com universe.”
The teaser doesn't really show us much... until the last few shots, which spotlight a pretty inventive and gruesome kill. We see Heart Eyes plunge a carjack into an unfortunate victim's mouth, then grab his girlfriend and impale her head on the other end of it.

Back in 2020, director Leigh Whannell brought the world a well-received modern update of the classic Universal property The Invisible Man. On January 17, 2025, Universal will be releasing Whannell’s take on another classic Universal property, Wolf Man. There aren’t any plans in place for Whannell to continue making new versions of the Universal Monsters – but, if he were to given his pick of which character(s) to resurrect next, he has said that he would go with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
Robert Louis Stevenson created the characters of Jekyll and Hyde in his 1886 novella Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which depicts the gripping struggle of two opposing personalities — one essentially good, the other evil — for the soul of one man. The story has received many cinematic adaptations over the years, with one being a 26 minute short film that was released in 1913 and came from companies that...

Having already delivered a certified banger with The Invisible Man, director Leigh Whannell turns his attention to another classic Universal Monster with his upcoming Wolf Man reboot, and the movie has now received an official rating from the MPA.

There’s a reboot of the classic Universal Monsters property The Wolf Man coming our way from Blumhouse Productions and The Invisible Man (2020) director Leigh Whannell, aiming for a January 17, 2025 theatrical release – and this week, the folks at the Motion Picture Association ratings board have revealed that they’ve given the film an R rating for bloody violent content, grisly images and some language. This isn’t the first time a reboot of The Wolf Man has been given an R rating, as the 2010 reboot that was directed by Joe Johnston and starred Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, and Emily Blunt was also rated R, for bloody horror violence and gore.
The leads of this version of Wolf Man are Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner, both of whom were in the 2011 film Martha Marcy May Marlene. Abbott is taking on the role of a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Following the recent trailer, Empire Magazine has shared a new official image from the upcoming Wolf Man reboot, and it finds Christopher Abbott's protagonist, Blake, beginning his Lycanthropic transformation.
Our first look at the titular werewolf via an actor in a costume at Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights was met with a lot of backlash, but the trailer did suggest that this will be the monster responsible for the initial attack, leaving Blake to change into a different beast altogether.
Director Leigh Whannell tells the mag that this movie represents his return to "pure horror" after working on Upgrade and The Invisible Man.
“Upgrade was more sci-fi action. I was watching a lot of domestic thrillers when I wrote The Invisible Man, because I love that genre. [Wolf Man] is me saying, ‘I just wanted to make something that is straight-up, pure horror.’”

Director Leigh Whannell (The Invisible Man) returns to the world of the Universal Monsters with next year’s Wolf Man, and Empire has shared a brand new image this week.
Additionally, the outlet sat down for a chat with Whannell that has been published in part this morning. Whannell promises that his Wolf Man is a straight up horror movie, for starters. He also teases that the new movie aims to bring something fresh to the werewolf sub-genre.

“I think of it as a companion piece to The Invisible Man,” he continues. “I didn’t want this film to be a nostalgic or a retro Wolf Man film in any way.

Horror fans, we're happy to report that the upcoming Spyglass horror rom-com Heart Eyes finally has a theatrical release date. Unfortunately, the movie won't be coming out this year, which was expected since production just recently wrapped in New Zealand in July. The film is currently in post-production. However, Sony will be releasing this movie in theaters early next year. Feb. 7, 2025, to be exact. Don't forget to save the date!
Heart Eyes is described as a Valentine's Day slasher. Josh Ruben directed the film from a screenplay co-written by Phillip Murphy (Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard), Christopher Landon, and Michael Kennedy.
Taking place in Seattle, Washington, Heart Eyes follows a pair of co-workers working overtime at their job during Valentine's Day. But things take a turn for the worse when an infamous couple-hunting murderer known as the "Heart Eyes Killer" shows up at their job and mistakes them for a couple.

February 14th is a Friday in 2025, so that would seem to be the perfect choice of release date for a horror romantic comedy that’s set on Valentine’s Day, which is what the movie Heart Eyes is. But the February 14th release date has already been taken by Disney/Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World and Paramount’s Smurfs animated movie… so Sony Pictures has chosen to release Heart Eyes on February 7th. Its competition on that date is the Universal action movie With Love, starring Ke Huy Quan.
Coming our way from Josh Ruben, the director of Werewolves Within and Scare Me, Heart Eyes was scripted by Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon, Landon’s Freaky collaborator Michael Kennedy (who also wrote It’s a Wonderful Knife), and Phillip Murphy (The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard). The film has the following synopsis: When the Heart Eyes Killer strikes Seattle, a...
