Though this did turn out to be the basis for the werewolf that attacks our protagonists in Leigh Whannell's movie, the overall look came across a lot better on screen, and Blake (Christopher Abbott) ultimately transforms into a different beast altogether.

Even so, the "Hills Fever" wolfman's final design still proved to be highly divisive, and a lot of fans simply couldn't get on board with a near-hairless creature that looked far more man than wolf.

We've already seen some alternate creature designs from concept artist Constantine Sekeris, who has now taken to Instagram to share another early sketch. This take on the monster actually looks a little like the Wolfman from Monster Squad!

Director Leigh Whannell gave the classic Universal Monsters a shot of modern life in 2020 with his thrilling new take on "The Invisible Man." In the aftermath of that success, Universal Pictures and Blumhouse set about reinventing another monster in the form of the Wolfman. Originally, Oscar-nominee Ryan Gosling ("Barbie") was set to star in "Wolf Man" that had director Cory Finley ("Bad Education") flirting with the director's chair before Derek Cianfrance ("Blue Valentine") came on board. Things changed a lot along the way, with Whannell ultimately settling into the director's chair. But why did Gosling drop out?

Gosling is still credited on "Wolf Man" as a producer, for what it's worth. Yet, he doesn't appear on screen. Instead, Christopher Abbott stars as Blake, the ill-fated man who becomes a werewolf. In a recent interview with CinemaBlend timed to the film's release, Whannell explained that the film didn't change a lot once Abbott took over.

Horror fans were very excited when it was announced that Leigh Whannell had stepped in to replace the departing Derek Cianfrance as director on Universal/Blumhouse's Wolf Man reboot, since the filmmaker had previously delivered his own take on another classic Universal Monster which proved to be a big critical and commercial hit.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Whannell is going to be able to repeat The Invisible Man's success.

Wolf Man arrived in theaters on Friday amid mostly negative reviews (it currently sits at 54% on Rotten Tomatoes), and the movie has now come in well below its already modest opening weekend box office estimates.

The downbeat werewolf flick was on track for a $17M-$21M bow, but only managed to take in $10.6M over three days (analysts believe it'll hit $12M by Monday).

It's worth noting that Wolf Man did have a relatively low production budget of $25 million,...

Leigh Whannell's Wolf Man is now in theaters, and the Universal Monster reboot may be facing an uphill struggle after failing to take a big enough bite out of the box office over the weekend.

We're still waiting on international numbers, but the movie only managed to take in $4.45M on Friday (including Thursday previews) in North America, and is now on track for a $17M-$21M debut. This wouldn't exactly be a disaster for a film with a reported $25 million budget, but audiences really don't seem to be too fussed about this one.

Wolf Man has earned a C- CinemaScore, which is disappointing even for an R-rated horror movie. It's also dropped down to a "rotten" 54% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Again, overseas takings may be a lot better (and that relatively low budget has to be taken into consideration), but as things stand, Disney's Mufasa: The Lion King looks set to claim the No.

Wolf Man is now playing in theaters in most major markets worldwide, and we're delving into the horror reboot's intense final act while touching on how this latest take on the classic Universal Monster differs from other versions of the terrifying tale.

Following a brief teaser that was released on Halloween night, Screen Gems has shared the first full trailer for a new seasonal slasher movie titled Heart Eyes, and it promises to deliver a bloody Valentine's Day massacre.

Directed by Josh Ruben from a screenplay by Christopher Landon, Michael Kennedy, and Phillip Murphy, the premise focuses on a masked killer known as Heart Eyes who only targets couples on the most romantic day of the year.

On Halloween, Sony Pictures unveiled a red band teaser trailer for the Valentine’s Day-set horror romantic comedy Heart Eyes – and last week, the film’s director, Josh Ruben (who previously brought us Werewolves Within and Scare Me), took to social media to let it be known that the full trailer would be dropping online this week. Sure enough, the full trailer for Heart Eyes has now been unveiled, and you can check it out in the embed above.

Heart Eyes is set to reach theatres on February 7, 2025. February 14th is a Friday, so that would seem to be the perfect choice for this movie’s release date, but it was already taken by Disney/Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World, so Sony had to move it to the week before Valentine’s Day. Its competition on that date is the Universal action movie Love Hurts, starring Ke Huy Quan.

This Valentine’s Day, no couple is safe. The filmmakers behind Freaky, Happy Death Day and Werewolves Within join forces for this year’s slasher movie Heart Eyes, and the brand new official trailer has arrived ahead of the film’s release only in theaters on February 7, 2025.

This Valentine’s Day, you might be seeing red. Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for “Heart Eyes,” the upcoming horror romantic comedy directed by “Werewolves Within” filmmaker/Dropout regular Josh Ruben.

Written by Phillip Murphy and “Freaky” co-writers Michael Kennedy and Christopher Landon, “Heart Eyes” stars Olivia Holt (“Cruel Summer”) and Mason Gooding (“Scream”) as a pair of unlucky coworkers who find themselves hunted by a masked killer on Valentine’s Day.

The new spot includes a (very) quick glimpse of the beast, but the featurette spotlights the full creature design via some concept maquettes. The video also features Whannell and the cast discussing this latest take on the classic Universal Monster.

It's entirely possible that what we've seen of the Wolf Man so far will not be the final form, as Blake could transform into a more lupine-looking creature towards the end of the movie.

It should likely come as no surprise that the upcoming Valentine’s Day slasher Heart Eyes received an appropriate slasher rating, and that R-rated stamp comes ahead of the film’s full trailer arriving next week.

The slasher is set to arrive in theaters on February 7, 2025.

Heart Eyes has been rated “R” for “strong violence and gore, language and some sexual content.”

To mark the spookiest day of the year, Screen Gems (via Bloody Disgusting) has released the first red band teaser trailer for a new horror movie titled Heart Eyes, and it promises to deliver a bloody Valentine's Day massacre.

Our first look at what was assumed to be the titular monster via an actor in a costume at Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights was met with a lot of backlash, but the first teaser did suggest that this will be the creature responsible for the initial attack, leaving Christopher Abbott's Blake to change into a different beast altogether.

Christopher Abbott is joining the Blumhouse cinematic monster universe with horror film “Wolf Man.”

The “Poor Things” star and “Girls” alum leads the Blumhouse and Universal feature about a werewolf. Julia Garner also stars.

Ryan Gosling produces the film, which is directed by “Saw” co-creator and “The Invisible Man” helmer Leigh Whannell. Gosling was originally cast in the lead role before exiting the project; Abbott took over the titular part.

Abbott and Garner previously starred in “Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene” together in 2011.

Director Whannell is a Blumhouse staple, having previously directed “The Invisible Man,” “Upgrade,” and “Insidious: Chapter 3″ for the studio.

Whannell explains, “Upgrade was more sci-fi action. I was watching a lot of domestic thrillers when I wrote The Invisible Man, because I love that genre. [Wolf Man] is me saying, ‘I just wanted to make something that is straight-up, pure horror.’”

“I think of it as a companion piece to The Invisible Man,” he continues. “I didn’t want this film to be a nostalgic or a retro Wolf Man film in any way.

Horror fans, we're happy to report that the upcoming Spyglass horror rom-com Heart Eyes finally has a theatrical release date. Unfortunately, the movie won't be coming out this year, which was expected since production just recently wrapped in New Zealand in July. The film is currently in post-production. However, Sony will be releasing this movie in theaters early next year. Feb. 7, 2025, to be exact. Don't forget to save the date!
