'It's Always a Dangerous Thing': Chicago Med Showrunner Hints at Possible Romance for Maggie and Frost
Image
Chicago Med Season 10, Episode 10 saw the end of the relationship between charge nurse Maggie Lockwood and Trauma Surgeon Helicopter Pilot Dr. Loren Johnson. Their split left fans curious about Maggie's potential future relationships, particularly with her friend Dr. John Frost.

While the end of Maggie and Loren's relationship had been hinted at, it still came as a shock to fans who felt their fallout was out of nowhere. Per TVLine, a fan would ask, "Will Maggie and John's Chicago Med friendship shift into something more now that she and Loren are broken up?" Series showrunner Allen MacDonald would respond to this question, stating, "We'll have to see on that." He continues, "It's always a dangerous thing, if you have a friendship, to cross that line, but it's also a very dramatic place to go. So that's what I'll say about that."

While MacDonald neither confirmed nor denied if that would become a plotline,...

Chicago Med boss teases "dangerous" development between Maggie and Frost
Image
It's been a tough season for romance on Chicago Med. There have been tons of breakups among the various employees at Gaffney Medical Center, which can oftentimes ramp up the tension during work situations. Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) was the latest character to put the kibosh on her relationship, but she may just be gearing up for another.

Med fans have noticed that there's a pretty strong bond between Lockwood and Dr. John Frost (Darren Barnet). They have camaraderie on the Gaffney floor, even when the going gets tough (as is standard). And since the romance between Lockwood and Loren (Henderson Wade) is kaput, fans suspect that Lockwood and Frost could be a real possibility.

Image
After what has felt like an eternity, NBC has finally pulled off a new One Chicago crossover event bringing together the stars of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago Pd… or at least most of the characters.

Heading into the three-part crossover event, fans were eager to find out which characters would be participating in the One Chicago crossover. It quickly became clear that the plan was for most of the casts of the shows to appear; however, in speaking with the creative teams behind the shows, One Chicago Center was able to confirm a few key characters would be absent from the crossover event including both series regular and recurring characters who have been active parts of the show’s current seasons.

One of the most notable absences from the crossover is Joe Minoso’s Joe Cruz, who played a key role in past crossovers as a long-time member of Chicago Fire.

Chicago Med Season 9, Episode 10 Is a Shocking Success
Image
The following contains major spoilers from Chicago Med Season 9, Episode 10, "You Just Might Find You Get What You Need," which debuted Wednesday, May 1 on NBC.

At least once in every season of Chicago Med, there is an episode where things go from dramatic to full-on chaotic. "You Just Might Find You Get What You Need" is that episode for Season 9. The episode includes a helicopter that almost crashes, another shooting outside of the hospital, a woman who allegedly jumped off a balcony and something that is definitely not the flu. Visually and in terms of cases, this is an hour that's not great if someone's squeamish.

But all of that doesn't make an episode; what matters is what happens to the characters through all of these events. Season 9, Episode 10 has some solid plotlines for Steven Weber, Oliver Platt and Marlyne Barrett -- the latter of which is especially appreciated given...

Chicago Med Season 9 Sneak Peek Loren's Injuries Put Him in Danger
Image
A lot happened to Loren (Henderson Wade) and Maggie (Marlyne Barrett) in a single day. They saved a life, survived a rough helicopter landing, and got the courage to ask each other out. In a way of speaking, it was a blessing in disguise because now they don't have to tiptoe around each other anymore. However, that blessing might not seem as important given what Chicago Med Season 9, Episode 11 "I Think There Is Something You're Not Telling Me" promo teases. He started working at Med on a volunteer basis because he was no longer occupied with his main job. There have been several perks to working at Med, including getting to spend time with Maggie. But what if there was a way of improving the situation? A fellowship position is up for grabs at Med. It is an excellent opportunity for anyone, but for him, it is twice so.

Chicago Med hiatus: When does the show return and what should fans expect from the next new episode?
Image
Chicago Med is still on an extended spring hiatus as the show takes a break before racing toward the season finale.

Some fans may already be upset that the One Chicago shows have taken such a long break during April, but new episodes are on the horizon.

As a reminder, two Hollywood strikes paused the production of the NBC dramas. It delayed the new seasons from premiering for many months.

When the shows finally returned in January, Chicago Med fans were reminded that Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) had left the show.

Dr. Halstead’s final episode was the Season 8 finale, where he quit working at the hospital and traveled to Seattle. When he got off the plane, he was greeted by Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and her daughter.

Several new doctors have joined the fold on the Chicago Med cast this season, adding some freshness to the show.

Swamp Thing Series Showrunner Addresses the Dcu's Upcoming Movie
Image
Fans are still feeling bummed by the acclaimed Swamp Thing series getting canceled after a single season in 2019, but the character will next appear on the big screen with his own feature film set in the Dcu. The movie will be directed by Logan and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny helmer James Mangold, and Mark Verheiden --- the co-showrunner of the one-season Swamp Thing series --- recently shared how he's excited about what this means for the future of DC adaptations.

"James Mangold, who's a great guy, is apparently working on a Swamp Thing movie, which is great," Verheiden said in a Multiverse of Color interview. "He'll give a great take on it. So, hopefully, that maybe kicks off a little more of the darker characters [getting their own projects]... I'm really hopeful for what James Gunn brings to the world. It feels like the old, sort of the last regime's DC...

10 Major Questions Chicago Med Season 9 Has To Answer
Image
The Chicago Med season 8 finale featured the exit of one original main character, a continuing medical scare for one doctor, the promise of bad times ahead for Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, and so many more plot developments that led to questions that the writers will have to answer when season 9 airs. NBC renewed the medical drama series for a ninth season in April 2023, along with the other One Chicago television shows. Unfortunately, it's unclear when any of them will premiere.

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) failed to reach an agreement regarding a new contract after the old one expired, so the writers went on strike on May 2, 2023. As of the writing of this article, the strike is still ongoing as the writers fight for their rights, and it's unknown when any television shows, including Chicago Med, will resume production.

The Chicago Med Season 8 Finale Teased A Surprising New Cast Member
Image
Warning: Contains Spoilers for the Chicago Med season 8 finaleChicago Med fans had to say goodbye to one original character during the season 8 finale, but the writers might have paved the way for another doctor to join the cast. The NBC series has lost many cast members over the years, which is always sad, but it also opens the door for new characters to enter the fold. By the time season 9 rolls around, viewers might be seeing a lot more of one particular doctor.

The episodes leading up to the season 8 finale led the audience to believe that Maggie Lockwood, played by Marlyne Barrett, would be leaving the show at the end of the season. However, out of left field, Will Halstead was the one who handed his letter of resignation over to Sharon Goodwin. Nick Gehlfuss, who played Will, decided to exit the series, just as Will chose to leave...

Swamp Thing: Season One Ratings
Crystal Reed in Swamp Thing (2019)
Due to The CW's regular shows being delayed by the pandemic, the smallest network has decided to license and air preexisting series. Swamp Thing originated on the DC Universe streaming service and was cancelled after one season. While airing episodes on The CW seems unlikely to spawn a second season renewal at this point, perhaps the characters' story could continue in some way. After all, John Constantine (another DC Comics character) found new life on CW's Arrow and DC's Legends of Tomorrow after Constantine was cancelled by NBC. Could something like that happen again? Stay tuned.

A superhero-horror drama series, Swamp Thing stars Crystal Reed, Virginia Madsen, Andy Bean, Derek Mears, Henderson Wade, Maria Sten, Jeryl Prescott, Will Patton, Leonardo Nam, Kevin Durand, Jennifer Beals, and Ian Ziering. Based on DC...

The CW Beefs Up Scripted Slate With Swamp Thing, Coroner & More
Crystal Reed in Swamp Thing (2019)
The CW is adding some more shows to its scripted slate ahead of Thursday's fall schedule reveal.

DC Universe's one-and-done Swamp Thing, Serinda Swan's Coroner, and UK comedy, Dead Pixels.

The trio of pickups comes just hours after the news dropped that the network was adding Paul Wesley-led Tell Me a Story to its lineup.

With Tell Me a Story, the series was also canceled today, so it's not yet clear what made the network pull the trigger on a pickup.

It's possible that the fee to air the show dropped considerably with the cancellation.

Swamp Thing was a high profile series last year. It garnered critical acclaim but was canceled just one day after its DC Universe premiere.

Swamp Thing follows Dr. Abby Arcane (Gotham‘s Crystal Reed) as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana.

The cast also includes Virginia Madsen,...

The CW Acquires ‘Swamp Thing’, Canadian Drama ‘Coroner’ & UK Comedy ‘Dead Pixels’ As Network Readies Fall 2020 Lineup
Image
The CW has acquired former DC Universe series Swamp Thing, based on the DC character, along with Canadian drama Coroner and half-hour British comedy Dead Pixels, from BBC Studios, in their U.S. debuts. All will premiere on broadcast and the network’s free ad-supported streaming platforms. They join previously announced Tell Me A Story, from CBS All Access. Premiere dates and times will be announced later.

The CW is known for using acquired scripted series as summer programming. This year is different as there is a lot of uncertainty over when TV series will be able to go into production amid the coronavirus pandemic, so it is possible that the CW would use some of the acquisitions for late summer or fall to give its originals more time to produce new episodes. The CW is expected to unveil its fall schedule on Thursday.

The CW Acquires Rights to ‘Swamp Thing,’ ‘Tell Me a Story’

With many broadcast shows in disarray as a result of the coronavirus production shutdown, a trend is emerging of networks turning to streamers and international waters for content to fill their schedule.

In additional news, the Kevin Williamson-created anthology thriller has been canceled by All Access, Variety has confirmed, meaning that the show will end at two seasons, both of which will be heading to CW for a second-window run and will remain available to stream on All Access.

Crystal Reed in Swamp Thing (2019)
Review: Swamp Thing: The Complete Series
Crystal Reed in Swamp Thing (2019)
I was just the right age for Swamp Thing when he shambled into comics back in the early 1970s. I had years of super-heroes committed to memory so I was primed for something different. Along came Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson’s creation and it dealt nicely with familiar horror tropes but with enough of a twist to feel different along with continuing characters and exquisite artwork.

The arrival of Swamp Thing on DC Universe was equally well-timed in that we’ve had plenty of super-hero films and live-action television so it was a welcome addition to their initial lineup. Then came the news that there was trouble on the set, the series order was cut, then canceled after one ten-episode season. We were left with plenty of unfulfilled potential.

For those who missed out on the show, Warner Home Entertainment has released Swamp Thing the Complete Series in a fine Blu-ray package.

Swamp Thing Horror Movie in Development at Warner Bros.?
As we all know by this point in time, Warner Bros. recently put the kibosh on their stellar Swamp Thing TV series over on DC Universe after only airing a single episode. There has been tons of confusion about why the show got such a swift bullet to the head, but today we have word that there may be a light at the end of the tunnel for Alec Holland and his swamp-dwelling buddies. Today we're hearing that Warner Bros. is planning to bring the mean green guy back to the big screen in a Swamp Thing horror movie with a similar sort of vibe to the series.

This news comes on the heels of a rumor that was circling a few weeks back that said that the powers that be behind the scenes at Warner Bros. were looking to cast Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and The...

Swamp Thing Episode 2

It’s weird being in the midst of an episode review for a show when you find out the whole thing has been canceled. But it’s especially disappointing when the episode you’re writing about is so damn good. Such is the case for “Worlds Apart,” the excellent second hour of the just-canceled Swamp Thing on the DC Universe streaming platform.

Following an impressive premiere, the new episode – directed by executive producer, and Underworld master Len Wiseman -- delivers more horror, some gore, and satisfying swamp monster hero action while setting up a supernatural element.

The action picks up after the events of the pilot episode that had Alec Holland (Andy Bean) blown up and transformed by the swamp into the titular monster (Derek Mears...

DC Universe Cancels Swamp Thing
Only one episode into its first season, Swamp Thing has been canceled by the streaming service DC Universe.

Multiple outlets, including Deadline and Entertainment Weekly, report that DC Universe has decided not to move forward with Swamp Thing, which premiered on the streaming service on Friday, May 31st.

Warner Bros. has not officially commented on the cancellation, but Deadline reports that the streaming service is being "reevaluated" following the "At&T acquisition of Time Warner."

Back in April, StarNews reported that the show's previously planned 13-episode first season had been cut down to 10.

At this point, it looks like a new episode of Swamp Thing will continue to be released every Friday until this season comes to an end. Time will tell if the series can find a home at a different streaming service or network, and we'll keep Daily Dead readers updated as more details are revealed.

Based on the...

‘Swamp Thing’ Canceled By DC Universe After 1 Season
The DC digital service, DC Universe, will not be picking up a second season of Swamp Thing, its drama series based on the DC characters created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, according to sources. The series, which premiered on May 31, hailed from James Wan’s Atomic Monster in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Like every other initiative, DC Universe is being reevaluated following the completion of At&T acquisition of Time Warner as WarnerMedia has put an emphasis on the launch of a new streaming platform. There have been questions how DC Universe fits into those plans.

There already had been chatter that new leadership of WarnerMedia was not particularly high on Swamp Thing whose order was reduced from 13 to 10 episodes in April. The cancellation comes just one episode into the show’s run.

Swamp Thing was the third live-action series to launch on DC Universe, following Titans, which has...

Swamp Thing Trailer: DC Universe Turns to Horror for Latest Drama
Is this a DC Universe show?

That was my first thought as I watched the final trailer for Swamp Thing, the latest live-action drama to launch on the superhero-oriented streaming service.

Swamp Thing "follows Abby Arcane as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets," according to the show's official logline.
