The Uniqa South-East Europe Future Foundation, in cooperation with the Sarajevo Film Festival and Slano Film Days, has selected five film projects as part of the Female Filmmakers Support Programme. The selection was announced at Slano Film Days.

The initiative supports women filmmakers from six South-East European countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Romania and Bulgaria. The initiative, launched last year, has a total of Euros 180,000 in funding for this year.

The program was created to “strengthen the presence and visibility of women in the regional film industry,” offering financial support, mentorship and opportunities for professional development. Selected participants have access to Sarajevo Film Festival’s CineLink Industry Days through its Industry Training and Skills Program.

Ena Sendijarevic and Aida Begic are among five female filmmakers to receive funding through the Uniqa See Future Foundation’s Female Filmmakers Support Programme.

The programme, run in co-operation with Sarajevo Film Festival and Slano Film Days, is providing a total of €180,000 support for the five filmmakers, as part of a commitment to gender equality in film.

Five film projects have been selected for this year’s Female Filmmakers Support Program, picked by the Uniqa See Future Foundation, in cooperation with the Sarajevo Film Festival and Slano Film Days.

Launched in 2024, the initiative “supports and empowers women filmmakers from the six Southeast European countries where Uniqa Insurance Group operates, namely Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Romania, and Bulgaria.” Its goal is to “strengthen the presence and visibility of women in the regional film industry, offering financial support, mentorship, and opportunities for professional development.”

The projects were selected for their “strong artistic vision, originality, and commitment to telling compelling stories,” organizers said. LThey will receive tailored financial and professional support, helping them move forward in production and post-production.”

Said Mirsad Purivatra, director of Slano Film Days: “By backing their creative journeys, we’re helping shape a more inclusive and dynamic future for cinema in our region.”

Peter Murimi’s documentary to launch on digital platform Bohemia Euphoria.

Bohemia Media has acquired UK, Ireland and North America rights to documentary I Am Samuel and plans to launch it on upcoming streaming platform, Bohemia Euphoria.

The feature directorial debut of Kenyan journalist Peter Murimi is an intimate portrait of a queer Kenyan man and his partner, and their experiences in a country where their love is criminalized. The documentary previously played at the UK’s BFI Flare and London film festivals.

Bohemia Media has secured UK and Ireland rights to Rebel Dykes, a documentary set to receive its world premiere at BFI Flare: London Lgbtiq+ Film Festival (March 17-28).

The London-based outfit, launched last year by Phil Hunt and Lucy Fenton, struck the deal with Riot Productions and plan to release the film in virtual cinemas this June.

The documentary marks the feature directorial debut of Harri Shanahan and Sian Williams, and centres on a gang of lesbians in 1980s London that aimed to unite Lgbtiq+ communities against hostility and homophobia.

Exclusive: Entertainment accountancy firm Nyman Libson Paul (Nlp) is launching new venture Goldfinch Pictures Ltd, dedicated to supporting British films.

Goldfinch Pictures Ltd is setting up an Eis company that aims to raise $6.5m (£4m) from investors.

Among the people who will sit on its expert panel are former British Film Commissioner Colin Brown and Stephen Evans, the producer of Oscar-winning films Henry V and The Madness of King George.

Goldfinch Pictures has been set up by Kirsty Bell, a film specialist and partner at Nyman Libson Paul. She will be managing director of the operation, which will support eight separate films over three years, all of which will be closely scrutinised and vetted by the expert panel, and have the appropriate approval from the Inland Revenue.

Philip Howard's sell-out Traverse Theatre Company production of David Greig's Damascus is to be presented at the Tricycle Theatre by Michael Edwards and Carole Winter for Mje Productions. Damascus will run from 3 February - 7 March 2009 with press night on Monday 9 February. Designs are by Anthony Macllwaine, lighting is by Chahine Yavroyan, the composer/arranger is Jon Beales and sound is by Graham Sutherland.
