After Season 2 Part 1 ended with Dream (Tom Sturridge) killing his son Orpheus (Ruari O’Connor) after being begged to for thousands of years, his choice to spill that family blood sparks the ire of The Kindly Ones. Familicide is a big no-no for the Endless — even when the one dying spent lifetimes asking for it — and the only punishment is death.
“The Sandman” showrunner Allan Heinberg told TheWrap that Dream welcomed his end because coming back from killing your child just isn’t feasible, but he needed to make sure his dream kingdom and its residents were safe before accepting his fate.
“I think he’s in a really tough spot, because once you kill your own son I don’t know how you get over it,” Heinberg said. “I just don’t think you ever do.

There are many new characters introduced this time around, from Norse Gods to those of Faerie to the remaining entities that make up the Endless family. For the latter, we've been introduced to Destiny (Adrian Lester), Delirium (Esme Creed-Miles) and Destruction (Barry Sloane).
In the second half of Volume 1, Delirum seeks out Dream (Tom Sturridge) and convinces him to join her on a quest to find Destruction. Delirium is eccentric, surreal, and inherently chaotic. She's the youngest of the Endless siblings, and one of the most mysterious. Many years ago, she used to be Delight, but a change made her into Delirium. This change is one of the comic's biggest mysteries.

After spending decades in development hell, a live-action adaptation of the Neil Gaiman comic book series The Sandman actually made it into production and was released as a Netflix series in August of 2022. This may be a bit frustrating for the bingers out there, but take it from someone who’s seen the first half dozen: they have more than enough profound themes, character developments and batshit oddities to savor and ponder for weeks to come.

Netflix recently unveiled the first trailer and release dates for The Sandman season 2, which will be split into two parts. The 6-episode Volume 1 premieres on July 3, and the 5-episode Volume 2 arrives on July 24.
