Image
Taraji P. Henson has never been one to hold back when it comes to speaking her truth. And her recent appearance during the press run for Tyler Perry’s Straw proved exactly that. While the Oscar-nominated actress has carved out an incredible career for herself over the years, the journey wasn’t always met with open doors.

Even after a high-profile role in a $335 million blockbuster alongside Brad Pitt, she felt slighted. Henson recently got candid about how Hollywood responded to her after her Oscar nomination for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. What should’ve been a moment that propelled her into A-list stardom quickly turned into a harsh reality check. But when everyone else went silent, one man, now a billionaire, stepped up in a way no one else did.

Tyler Perry was the only one who called Taraji P. Henson

Why Katherine Heigl's Izzie Stevens Left Grey's Anatomy
Image
Partway through the sixth season of Shonda Rhimes' massive hit "Grey's Anatomy", we see Isobel "Izzie" Stevens, one of the series' original surgical interns played by Katherine Heigl, for the final time. To call Izzie's exit abrupt is ... an understatement. After getting fired from Seattle Grace-Mercy West hospital, Izzie flees, leaving her new husband, Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers), behind. When she comes back in "I Like You So Much Better When You're Naked," she suggests that maybe she and Alex can fix things; he tells her that's not possible, and Izzie is never seen or heard from again.

Characters leave "Grey's Anatomy" all the time. Patrick Dempsey's leading man, Dr. Derek Shepherd (often referred to as "McDreamy"), left the series in season 11, Sandra Oh hung up her stethoscope in season 10 when her character, Dr. Cristina Yang, moved to Switzerland, and even the titular Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo,...

The View (1997)
Here’s how Sunny Hostin is making the most of her time away from The View
The View (1997)
The View has adjourned for the season and is running reruns until September, when Season 28 starts.

This break in filming gives the ladies a nice long vacation, but most are working on side projects instead of going to a beach somewhere soaking up the sun.

It seems impossible for ladies like Sara Haines or Alyssa Farah Griffin to turn work off and relax.

Sara has been busy working on another show she’s passionate about, What Would You Do? Alyssa recently did what she does best on CNN: commentating on politics.

Sunny Hostin seems to be the busiest of all the ladies. In addition to being on The View full-time, she’s an author and has launched a new wine business.

As Monsters and Critics have reported, Sunny’s new wine is named after one of her book characters in a nice tie-in to them both. She’s landed...

Quentin Tarantino Wasn’t to Blame for His Films’ Prolific Use of the N-Word, Pam Grier Says
Quentin Tarantino at an event for The Oscars (2013)
Quentin Tarantino has often faced criticism for a gratuitous use of the N-word in his films.

Pam Grier, star of Tarantino’s third film, 1997’s “Jackie Brown,” shot down the notion Tarantino was at fault, saying during a SiriusXM appearance Thursday that if anyone was to blame, it was Samuel L. Jackson — or moreso, his characters.

“That was Sam’s acting craft doing it,” Grier told show host Bevy Smith. “So, and people brought that up. And Quentin says, ‘I don’t know why they do it. I didn’t do it.’ And Sam said, ‘No, I did it. I said it.'”

Babyface Weighs In On The ‘King Of R&b’ Debate, Reveals Whether He Thinks Usher Deserves The Title
Image
Babyface is weighing in on the King of R&b debate.

The musician joined Bevy Smith this week on SiriusXM’s Bevelations, where she mentioned that Usher had been on the show and was willing to take the crown.

Babyface responded, “It’s interesting. When you say king, what makes you king? Is it how many hits that you have or is it how many people you touch?

“You know, how many people that you give that feeling to where when they think of home, they think of R&b, and that you take them and you make them feel good.

“R&b’s a really hard one to figure out like a king of, even when we picked the King of Pop. And when Michael picked the King of Pop… it was overwhelming with the hits that he had and the songs that he had.

“So it’s just a little overwhelming.

Wendy Williams in The Wendy Williams Show (2008)
Wendy Williams Not Involved ‘In Any Way’ as Talk Show Moves Forward With Sherri Shepherd
Wendy Williams in The Wendy Williams Show (2008)
As “The Wendy Williams Show” prepares to close out its current 13th season with Sherri Shepherd seated in the signature purple chair, TheWrap has learned producers are moving forward without input from the show’s namesake host, Wendy Williams.

“She’s currently not involved with the show in any way,” an individual close to Williams told TheWrap.

The individual confirmed Williams won’t return for the current season and added, “Next season is up in the air depending on her health.”

This latest turn comes as Shepherd moves closer to finalizing a deal to take over as permanent guest host on the syndicated daytime talk show.

Williams has been on medical leave throughout the current season after suffering a breakthrough case of Covid-19 as well as complications from a previous diagnosis of Graves’ disease.

After multiple delays, Season 13 kicked off in October 2021, with a revolving door of fill-in hosts including actress Leah Remini,...

Wendy Williams Not Returning to Talk Show This Season, as Sherri Shepherd Nears Deal for Her Own Show
Image
Wendy Williams will not be returning to her daytime talk show this season, but the future of her show remains in flux, Variety has learned.

Meanwhile, Sherri Shepherd is in advanced discussions with Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury for her own daytime talk show, which could potentially replace Williams’ series, sources say.

Currently in its 13th season, “The Wendy Williams Show” is one of the biggest hits in daytime TV history. Launching in national syndication from Debmar-Mercury in 2008, the show was built around Williams, who, at the time the show premiered, was a popular radio host known for her no-holds-barred take on celebrity gossip.

Williams has been absent from her show all this season, as she has been battling ongoing health issues. Williams suffers from Graves’ disease, an autoimmune disorder.

While Williams has been gone from her talk show in 2021 and 2022, guest hosts have filled in for her throughout this entire season,...

‘Wendy Williams Show’: Sherri Shepherd Nears A Deal To Become Permanent Host
Image
Sherri Shepherd is finalizing a deal to become a permanent host on The Wendy Williams Show, sources tell Deadline. A rep for the syndicated daytime talk show’s producer, Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury, declined comment.

Along with fellow actor Michael Rapaport, Shepherd emerged as the lead guest hosts on the show, filling in on a regular basis for Williams since the beginning of the 13th season as the veteran talk show host took time off to recover from a variety of health issues.

This would mark Shepherd’s return to being a full-time daytime talk show host following her stint as co-host of The View.

The news of Shepherd’s pending deal for The Wendy Williams Show, which will likely be renamed, comes as major station groups solidify their daytime lineups for next season. The Wendy Williams Show, which is expected to be renamed, has been a staple on the Fox stations from its inception.

Harlem Cast on Their Love For the Neighborhood: “I’ve Always Represented Harlem, No Matter Where I Am”
Image
Image Source: WireImage / Hatnim Lee (3)

Harlem is a vibrant and multicultural community, so it's fitting that the cast of Harlem matches that same energy. Some criticism of the Amazon Prime series drew from the fact that none of the four leading actors are members of that community. While Shoniqua Shandai was born in New York City, she was raised in Richmond, Virginia. However, there are cast members on Harlem that have strong ties to the New York City borough, including: Harlem native Bevy Smith (Aunt Tammy), longtime Washington Heights resident Jasmine Guy (Patricia), and Bronx natives Juani Feliz (Isabela) and Kadeem Ali Harris (Brandon). Popsugar caught up with Bevy, Jasmine, and Juani at the Harlem premiere at the Magic Johnson Theatre in Harlem to discuss what the neighborhood means to them. We also spoke to Robert Ri'chard and Juani about how Amazon integrated the series with Harlem.

"People would say,...

Reese Witherspoon, Kerry Washington & Alyssa Milano Among More Than 100 Stars Expressing Outrage Over Texas Abortion Law

After the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday night denied a request to issue emergency relief blocking Texas’ new law that bans abortion at six weeks and, say opponents, effectively eliminates access to abortions statewide, some big names in entertainment expressed their opinions about the legislation.

Washington also shared a link to a Planned Parenthood petition which, among other things, maintains that “health care — including safe, legal abortion — is a human right.

Image
Director George C. Wolfe highlighted the kindness of the late Chadwick Boseman during Tuesday night’s Celebration of Black Cinema event. Wolfe recalled a moment while shooting “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” when all eyes were on 17-year-old actor Dusan Brown, who played Sylvester.

“[Dusan’s] nervousness took over and he was starting to freak out…Chadwick pulled him aside and said, ‘We are here for you. We are here to support you. This is your moment, and that’s why all of us are here.’ What an astonishing, incredible, generous thing for someone to do for another actor,” Wolfe said. “That was Chadwick. He was so present, not just as an actor, but present as a human being.”

The Critics Choice Association presented the Celebration of Black Cinema as a virtual ceremony to honor some of this awards season’s most visionary films,...
