Sony Renews PlayStation’s Superhero Show Powers For Season 2
Sony’s superhero drama Powers may not have lit up the PlayStation Network in a way the company would have hoped – perhaps stifled by the success of Marvel’s Daredevil – but that doesn’t mean the Japanese giant isn’t prepared to have another crack of the whip. In fact, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Sony will bring the series back in 2016 for season 2.

Following the ten-episode stint, the company will be looking to assemble the creative team back for another turn in the Powers Department, and here’s what Sony’s top brass had to say on the renewal.

“The reception to ‘Powers’ has been incredible and we are thrilled to have successfully launched a platform for original content with the PlayStation gamer in mind,” said John Koller, vp platforms marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America. “We believe original content will continue to be a key pillar as...

Watch: Trailer For PlayStation Supernatural Series 'Powers' Starring Sharlto Copley Drops Some F-Bombs
While it's not quite a superhero project in the traditional sense —though it is based on a comic series— "Powers" certainly has a mutant spirit, one not unlike X-Men. The series coming to PlayStation (yep, yet another streaming platform) has just dropped its first trailer, and while the execution is debatable, the premise is intriguing. Starring Sharlto Copley, Michelle Forbes, Eddie Izzard, Noah Taylor, Susan Heyward, Olesya Rulin, Max Fowler and Adam Godley, the show follows a formerly super-powered guy who now investigates similarly super-powered crimes as a detective. And it's a role that Copley seems to be enjoying, and it's a fun approach to the genre. But again, we're not sure how we like this first look. Check out the trailer below. No word yet on when it will drop on PlayStation. [Comic Book]...

Sharlto Copley Is On The Prowl In First Look At Sony’s Powers
During the annual New York Comic-Con, Sony took the opportunity to unveil the first trailer for its PlayStation-exclusive television show, Powers.

Based on Michael Avon Oeming and Brian Michael Bendis’ eponymous comic book, the series is due to premiere this December and follows Christian Walker (Sharlto Copley) and Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward), a pair of homicidal detectives who specialize in the abnormal.

Specifically, the two appear to be keeping close tabs on the titular Powers — a group of humans with supernatural abilities — within the Windy City itself, Chicago. From the above footage, it appears as though Copley’s character has an innate connection with the misunderstood antagonists, claiming that they somehow managed to steal his own mystical powers.

Joining Copley and Heyward for the procedural are Eddie Izzard, Noah Taylor, Olesya Rulin, Max Fowler, and Adam Godley. It’s understood that the pilot episode will be overseen by David Slade...

Poster for PlayStation's New Series Powers with Sharlto Copley
IGN

The first trailer for Playstation's new TV series Powers is set to premiere this weekend at New York Comic Con, and I imagine it will be released online around the same time. While we wait for the trailer, a poster has been released for the superpower crime drama, and it gives us a dark and gritty vibe.

Sharlto Copley and Susan Heyward star in the series as Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, two cops that specialize in cases involving people with superhuman abilities. Powers is based on a comic book written by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, and the poster pays tribute to that source material. Here's a description of the series.

In a nutshell, “Powers” is an edgy dramatic series that follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, who are assigned to investigate cases involving people with superhuman abilities, referred to as Powers.

Powers Casts Susan Heyward As 'Deena Pilgrim'
We've known that Brian Michael Bendis' Powers was coming to the PlayStation Network for a while, and now we finally have our first casting announcement. According to Deadline, Susan Heyward (The Following) will play Deena Pilgrim; who's described as "equal parts beauty and sarcasm, a wunderkind detective with edgy style". In the comics she partners up with Christian Walker -- who used to be a Power himself -- but no word on who'll be playing him yet. We do have a couple of supporting roles though: Adam Godley (Breaking Bad) will play Captain Cross, head of the Powers division of the police department, and Max Fowler (The Killing) will play the son of Walker’s deceased partner, who was murdered by a power. Bendis, Oeming and Michael Dinner will executive produce the show, with Huston and Remi Aubuchon (Falling Skies).

Susan Heyward ("The Following") has scored the female lead role in the upcoming TV series adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's acclaimed graphic novel series "Powers".

The story is set in a world full of people with superhuman abilities (aka. Powers) and follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim (Heyward), who are assigned to investigate cases involving people with superhuman abilities.

Also onboard are Max Fowler ("The Killing") and Adam Godley ("Breaking Bad"). Fowler plays the disaffected teen Krispin Stockley, the son of Walker’s previous partner who was murdered by a rogue Power. Godley is Captain Cross, head of the Powers division who may have his own agenda.

A previous failed FX pilot based on the property starred Lucy Punch and Charles S. Dutton as Deena Pilgrim and Captain Cross respectively. This project however is going straight to series and...

News

The casting for Powers, a combination of crime thriller and superhero fantasy based on the comic book series by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, is gradually coming together.

While the actor playing male lead Det. Christian Walker is yet to be announced, The Following and Poltergeist remake actress Susan Heyward (below) has been nabbed to play his colleague Det. Deena Pilgrim, a role previously taken by Lucy Punch in the now-defunct FX adaptation.

Walker and Pilgrim are homicide detectives in a world that superpowers have made a very dangerous place. The live-action adaptation will be Sony PlayStation TV's debut series.

The first two episode of Powers are to be directed by Hard Candy and Hannibal's David Slade, with scripts by writer and novelist, Charlie Huston. Max Fowler and Adam Godley also star.

New Trailer and Poster for Rage with Nicolas Cage
Previously titled Tokarev, and released under that name in some international territories, Nicolas Cage’s latest action-crime-thriller, Rage, will be released via VOD next month, ahead of a theatrical release stateside in July.

With just over a month before it lands digitally, Yahoo Movies has debuted the first Us trailer and poster. Cage is of course very well-versed in a genre like this, and remains amongst the most prolific within it.

When the Russian mob kidnaps the daughter of a reformed criminal, he rounds up his old crew and seeks his own brand of justice.

Starring alongside Cage will be Rachel Nichols, Max Ryan, Michael McGrady, Peter Stormare, Pasha D. Lychnikoff, Patrice Cols, Weston Cage, Max Fowler, Aubrey Peeples, and Jack Falahee, with Danny Glover also making an appearance.

Spanish helmer Paco Cabezas (The Appeared) is said to have been sought by Cage to take the director’s chair, with...

The Killing Review: “Head Shots” (Season 3, Episode 4)
Last week’s episode of The Killing was undoubtedly a disappointing one. I emphasized that it would have been a complete disaster had it not featured Peter Sarsgaard’s electric performance as Ray Seward. This week’s episode was far better in comparison, and it once again made good use of lead characters Holder and Linden, which I applaud. Some weak points include Twitch and Lyric’s several inconsequential scenes, and Max Fowler’s wooden acting — no, it’s not getting any better.

I mentioned before that I wasn’t a huge fan of some of the new characters introduced in the third season. I’m fine with Skinner and Bullet, though, as the former’s intriguing connection to Linden needs to be further explored in future episodes, while the latter has been slowly bonding with Holder. Bullet’s devotion to finding Kallie is enviable — she’s unquestionably more determined...

The Killing Review: “Seventeen” (Season 3, Episode 3)
After a promising start, the third season of The Killing has started to meander a little bit. The last couple of episodes were fast-paced, intriguing and revealing. This one was just plain dull and felt like complete filler. Remember the infamous first season episode Missing, where Linden spent hours looking for her son? Yeah, sure, it was great for character development, but it came at a point where we just wanted to know who killed Rosie Larsen, not find out about Linden’s personal problems.

This episode is not nearly as ill-timed, but it does feel as if Holder and Linden are going around in circles. Holder talks to the tomboyish Bullet, goes back to the office, and then talks to Bullet again, spies on some child porn distributor, then Bullet, office, kiddie porn, Bullet, and the cycle goes on and on, while Linden’s more invested in solving a...

The Killing Season 3: Proof Things Won’t Be the Same
I’ve been coming to grips with The Killing’s resurrection over the last few months, though the process has been slow and arduous .It’s just not a show I look back on with fond memories, which makes looking forward to the new season, even with all the intriguing story ideas I’ve heard, seem an impossibility. It turns out, however, all I really needed was to see something that would solidify my faith in a better future. It isn’t much, but it’s enough to at least shed some of my fears, the big one being Season 3 won’t have changed at all. But just looking at the new poster tells me there will be big changes coming. Whether they are good or bad remains to be seen, but at least the series didn’t stubbornly remain the same.

The image, which depicts Linden (Mireille Enos) and...

Rewind TV: Mayday; Broadchurch; Parks and Recreation – review
Just about everyone was a prime suspect in the BBC's inventive five-part whodunnit Mayday

Mayday (BBC1) | iPlayer

Broadchurch (ITV1) | ITVPlayer

Parks and Recreation (BBC4) | iPlayer

Lovers of TV crime drama rarely have to wait long for a child killing set in a small, inbred community of ordinary people with secrets up their sleeves, so I suppose we shouldn't be surprised when two come at once. We were the more generously served by Mayday, which the BBC ran over five successive nights, partly in deference to binge-watching trends, but also, perhaps, because they felt they had something to flaunt. And maybe they did. It was engaging in a British (ie non-Scandinavian) way, pulling us into the darker currents of the story by way of some light humour over an obese dog. Why was he so fat? More exercise, suggested the vet. Lesley Manville was wonderful as the dog's owner, Gail, half-indignant,...

'Mayday' on BBC One: Who killed Hattie?
BBC One's Mayday has been intriguing an audience of over 4 million viewers all week with its dark murder mystery.

'Who killed 14-year-old May Queen Hattie?' is the big question, hidden beneath tales of seedy peeping Toms, twisted relationships, moody teens and a broken community. But have you figured out the culprit yet?

Peter Firth's Malcolm was the obvious suspect after an intense feud with Hattie, but after killing himself midway through the series, he looks likely to be a red herring.

Could it be Seth (Tom Fisher) or Steve (Sam Spruell), the brothers who both have connections with the late girl?

Or maybe you think the sinister-looking Everett, played to creepy lip-curling perfection by Aiden Gillen, went too far with one of his sexual dalliances?

Watch a clip of the final episode of Mayday:

The other prime suspect is local copper Alan, played by Peter McDonald. He...

The Killing Season 3 Increases Credibility with Peter Sarsgaard and Amy Seimetz
Not only is The Killing carrying on as if it had never been canceled, but it’s actively bringing on strong, talented actors for its miraculous third season. We’ve already heard news of Elias Koteas and Max Fowler, both I was pleasantly surprised to see were cast, but now we have even more actors who have done such wonderful work in their careers I can’t help but wonder how The Killing managed to secure them for a full season. Maybe the story for Season 3 is actually a good one and this struggling, misdirected vessel has finally found the correct path.

Our first new actor to join the cast is Peter Sarsgaard, better known for his film work because, well, this is the first time he’s ever taken a regular role on a TV series. He’s built himself quite the career doing such movies as Garden State,...

Has 'The Killing' Season 3 Found Its Villain?
Mireille Enos in The Killing (2011)

He'll play Tom Seward, who is described as “a death row inmate for whom the clock is ticking down. Not ever wanting to appear weak, every interaction is a challenge, and one he must dominate.”

'The Killing' adds Peter Sarsgaard, Amy Seimetz to Season 3 cast
AMC's "The Killing" is making some classy casting choices for Season 3, adding Golden Globe nominated actor Peter Sarsgaard and rising indie film star Amy Seimetz to a mostly fresh ensemble.

It's the first series regular role for Sarsgaard, who earned critical acclaim for the films "Shattered Glass" and "Kinsey." He'll play a death row inmate and lifelong convict, according to TVLine.

Meanwhile, TVLine also reports Seimetz -- who made a splash in this year's buzzy Sundance Film Festival entry "Upstream Color" -- will play the struggling single mother of a missing teenager.

Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman will reprise their roles as Detectives Linden and Holder, while other new cast members include Elias Koteas ("Combat Hospital"), Max Fowler ("The Hour") and newcomer Bex Taylor-Klaus.
