Terry Dischinger(1940-2023)

Terry Dischinger is an American professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association. Olympic basketball champion 1960.

Dischinger was selected in the second round, 8th overall, by the Chicago Zephyrs in the 1962 NBA Draft. In his debut season, he averaged 25.5 points and 8 rebounds per game and became the rookie of the year. After his first season in the NBA, he and the team moved from Chicago to Baltimore and his club was renamed the Baltimore Bullets. In 1964, he was traded to the Detroit Pistons, where he averaged 18.2 points per game and made his third straight NBA All-Star appearance. During the 1971-72 season, he moved to the Portland Trail Blazers, where he finished his career.

Dischinger was a member of the USA basketball team at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, which also included future basketball Hall of Famers Jerry West, Jerry Lucas, Walt Bellamy and Oscar Robertson. Together with the team, he won gold medals in the basketball tournament. The 1960 US Olympic team is considered one of the best amateur teams in basketball history.
