Tom Hardy Reveals the Real Reason for the 8-Year Gap Between Seasons of His Hit Drama Series
Image
Actor Tom Hardy may be currently starring in Paramount+’s new crime drama series, MobLand, but in 2017 he co-created and starred in the period drama Taboo. Although it was meant to have another season, it’s now been eight years since the series, which also starred Stephen Graham (Adolescence), Leo Bill, Jessie Buckley, Oona Chaplin, Mark Gatiss, Tom Hollander, and Jonathan Price, aired its last episode.

Hardy co-created Taboo with Steven Knight, who also created Peaky Blinders, and Hardy’s father, Edward “Chips” Hardy. Ridley Scott served as an executive producer. The series followed James Keziah Delaney (Hardy) as he returned to London during the War of 1812 in an effort to rebuild his late father’s shipping empire.

Why Has Taboo Season 2 Taken So Long?

Now, after eight long years, Hardy has confirmed that work on a second season of Taboo has begun. Per MovieWeb, Hardy discussed why it has taken so long between seasons.

Every South Park Episode Written by Bill Hader, Ranked
Image
Bill Hader continues to have a flourishing career after his most famous gig as a regular cast member on SNL. He impressed the audiences with shows like Barry and Documentary Now!. However, many fans don’t immediately connect him to South Park, the long-running Comedy Central satirical show. Hader joined the writing room of the series several times.

Fans who have seen the documentary 6 Days to Air: The Making of South Park would’ve learned that Hader was a producer on the series. Trey Parker and Matt Stone invited him to their small and insular writing staff on several episodes. It means that many of our favorite South Park episodes had the brilliance of Hader in them.

Yo Gabba Gabba Controversy Explained — Why Do Parents Hate The Show So Much?
Image
When Yo Gabba Gabba! premiered on Nickelodeon in 2007, it quickly became a phenomenon, but the show wasn't without its controversy. Created by Christian Jacobs and Scott Schultz and developed by Kay Wilson Stallings, the children's series gained a massive following. Within a year, Yo Gabba Gabba! expanded beyond television to become a multimedia sensation. Toys, apparel, and albums flew off the shelves, and live shows sold out nationwide. The series was even named one of the 10 best shows of 2007 by Time Magazine, and The New York Times Magazine published a glowing article about its cultural impact.

Yo Gabba Gabba! was hosted by DJ Lance Rock (Lance Robertson), an enigmatic figure who always appeared in a surreal orange outfit. The show followed five costumed monsters — Muno, Foofa, Plex, Brobee, and Toodee — who had adventures, sang songs, danced, and taught kids life lessons. Part of Yo Gabba Gabba's appeal for kids was...

'We Were So Wrong': Vampire Diaries Creators Weren't Sold on One Main Star's Casting
Image
The Vampire Diaries may not have become such a hit show if not for the perfect casting of its leads. However, one main star had to prove to the show's creators that he was right for the role as there were serious concerns before actually seeing him in action on the set.

The Vampire Diaries was created by Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson. In a new interview with THR, Plec shared how both she and Williamson were not initially sold on the casting of Paul Wesley as Stefan Salvatore. There had been some concern that the actor was a bit too old for the role, giving Plec and Williamson some difficulty in picturing his performance beforehand. However, they both realized very quickly how wrong they were once Wesley got into characters.

Five Nunsploitation Horror Movies to Stream This Week
Image
Nunsploitation appears to be alive and well in 2024 with this week’s arrival of Immaculate, a convent-set horror movie that borrows heavily from ’70s Italian horror, the peak era of the exploitation film. Nunsploitation, a subgenre of exploitation films that hit its prime in the late ’70s and early ’80s, often features nuns behaving badly. More importantly, nunsploitation films explore themes of sexual or religious repression, frequently unleashing scathing critiques of the Church through blasphemous imagery and nuns behaving badly.

This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to nunsploitation horror. These taboo-shattering horror movies have more on their mind than their low-budget exploitation origins suggest.

Five Transgressive Horror Movies to Stream This Week
Image
While there’s plenty to be said and appreciated about cozy, comforting horror that offers catharsis, the genre’s ultimate aim is to terrify, shock, and even repulse. Of course, there is no shortage of ways that filmmakers accomplish this, frequently through gore, violence, and potent scare tactics, but transgressive horror is in a league of its own.

More than just gore, transgressive horror films revel in the taboo. Transgressive horror shatters cultural norms and seeks to explore beyond the boundaries of taste and social sensibilities, challenging viewers with shocking and sacrilegious imagery and themes. And yet, it’s not solely for shock value; transgressive horror has more on its mind than simply gore and depictions of depravity. There’s a purpose behind the pain. This week’s streaming picks are for the seekers of extreme cinema, unafraid to test their limits.

Here’s where you can stream them this week.

The 21 Best Survive-the-Night Horror Movies You Can Stream Right Now

Here are some of our favorite entries in this subgenre, where the weapons are improvised, the stakes are life and death and there’s no guarantee anyone will get out alive.

We did not include movies that take place over a few days (like “Battle Royale”) or movies that aren’t streaming right now, like “Ready or Not.”

Five Animated Horror Movies to Stream This Week
Image
Genre filmmaker Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Crimson Peak) made headlines last week when he announced via THR that he plans to soon focus exclusively on animated films.

“Animation to me is the purest form of art, and it’s been kidnapped by a bunch of hoodlums. We have to rescue it. [And] I think that we can Trojan-horse a lot of good shit into the animation world,” del Toro candidly told the outlet. He’s not wrong; a rich world of stunning animation exists beyond films targeting young audiences. That includes horror, of course.

This week’s streaming picks highlight the storytelling that animation can achieve and the various techniques and styles employed to capture them. These five animated horror movies vary in tone and style, from stop-motion to 2D traditional and beyond, finding haunting beauty in grim realities.

Here’s where you can stream them this week.

Blood Relatives – AMC+, Shudder

Writer/Director Noah Segan’s feature debut brings a charming soft touch to the vampire tale, favoring dad jokes and affecting bonds over savage bloodletting. Blood Relatives sees a nomad’s life upended by the arrival of a daughter he never knew he had, causing a seismic shift in his isolated bachelor lifestyle. The twist here is that the central character is a bloodsucking vampire whose inner...
