Weapons (2025) Movie Review: A Sharp, Twisted Attack On Isolation and Ignorance
Image
“Weapons” (2025) is a potent, precise breed of psychological terror that makes no apologies for itself. Between its creative storytelling structure and its truly shocking ending, it is a film that is intended to initiate conversations. Zach Creggar’s previous film, “Barbarian,” was a clever satire of toxic relationships within the horror genre, whereas “Weapons” is a subversion of suburban horror that carefully weaves its scares into a nuanced character study.

Creggar shows an outstanding clarity within his vision, as the tone of “Weapons” can switch between darkly hilarious, utterly terrifying, and completely bizarre on a moment’s notice without ever feeling inconsistent. Given the complexities that will surely make “Weapons” even more fascinating upon a second watch, it’s safe to say that Creggar has joined the likes of Jordan Peele, Ari Aster, Robert Eggers, and Mike Flanagan as one of the true trailblazers of modern horror.

“Weapons” opens with...

Weapons review | Crikey.
Image
Zach Cregger puts us under his spell in his terrifying and weird Barbarian follow-up. Here’s our Weapons review.

If there’s already one thing you can count on with a Zach Cregger movie, it’s that you’ll never know what you get. That was the case with Barbarian, the director’s 2022 debut and it’s certainly true with his sophomore feature, Weapons.

Sure, Weapons starts off as your general, run-of-the-mill horror mystery when 17 kids from the town of Maybrook get up at 2.17am and simply run off into the night. No one knows where they went, they simply disappeared.

And this is all you should know going into Weapons.

Much like Barbarian, some of the fun comes from not knowing where the film is going at any given moment. There’s no neat three act structure here and much in Weapons is unexpected. You don’t often get...

10 Films To Watch If You Love Parasite (2019)
Image
Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite (2019) created history at the 92nd Academy Awards, becoming the first foreign-language film to win Best Picture, along with its other three wins- Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Film. It also became the first South Korean film to win the highest prize at the Cannes Film Festival- the coveted Palme d’Or. If you have seen Parasite, you know there isn’t quite a film like the genre-defying, thrilling saga of two families, distinguished by class structures, coming together under the same roof. For those who haven’t seen it, still get prepared to be floored.

A succinct review would be the words of fellow Academy Award-winning director of films like Babel, Birdman, and The Revenant, Alejandro G. Inarritu, who has said how” […] Instead of preaching to us, pointing fingers or predictably, mass shooting oligarchs and corporate monarchs, Bong Joon Ho, sometimes using metaphors...

Who Plays Galactus in ‘The Fantastic Four’? Meet the Man with the Booming Voice
Image
In “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” Marvel’s First Family faces off against the walking, talking, planet-eating Galactus for the first time — sort of. Though the cosmic devourer has appeared in a Marvel film before, Matt Shakman’s latest entry to the MCU marks the first time an actor has actually portrayed Galactus.

When the Fantastic Four meet Galactus, they are faced with a colossal man in purple garb with a tuning fork helmet. Despite the visual silliness of this character, his immense size and booming, theater-shaking voice immediately establish a threat unlike the Four have ever faced.

But who lent their voice to give Galactus such gravitas? Read on to meet the man behind the planet eater.

Who plays Galactus in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”

To play Galactus, Marvel Studios tapped Ralph Ineson, a Robert Eggers regular and rising horror icon known for “The Witch,” “The First Omen” and “Nosferatu.

Untamed, the new Netflix miniseries, dropped without much fuss and is already being called a 10/10 by viewers who can’t stop watching, according to Unilad. Untamed Netflix Series Opens With A Jaw-Dropping Scene

Untamed begins with two climbers scaling a cliff in Yosemite when something falls from above, and it is not a rock, but a body. A woman’s corpse plummets, snags the climbers’ rope, and hangs there, swinging in the air. That is how the show starts, yes, you read that right.

How Ralph Ineson Went From a Nameless Pilot in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ to the Almighty Galactus in ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’
Image
The moment Ralph Ineson’s towering stature enters into frame and his God-like voice is heard, the moviegoing audience knows they’re in particularly good hands.

Thus, The Fantastic Four: First Steps director Matt Shakman understood full well the type of gravitas he’d be receiving when he offered Ineson the role of Galactus, the planet-devouring demigod and recurring foe of Marvel’s first family. In the first hour of what is now the definitive live-action adaptation of The Fantastic Four, Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) return home from an unsuccessful parley with the cosmic entity, and they are visibly shaken by the threat they just encountered, something Ineson’s performance conveyed with ease.

The Fantastic Four is not Ineson’s first foray into the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In 2014, he played a nameless Ravager...

Interviews: Titus Welliver, Jocelin Donahue, Joe Hill and more discuss Abraham’s Boys: A Dracula Story
Robert Eggers
Dracula is one of the most iconic characters in horror, having been adapted countless times on stage and screen. Robert Eggers recently reinvented the timeless tale in Nosferatu, and now another distinct approach to the vampire mythos is coming to the big screen. Based on Joe Hill’s short story of the same name, Abraham’s Boys: A Dracula Story is a sequel to Bram Stoker’s epistolary novel. Picking up decades later, it is a psychological horror story about Abraham Van Helsing and his family.

The film follows Max and Rudy Van Helsing, who have spent their lives under the strict and overprotective rule of their father, Abraham. Unaware of his dark past, they struggle to understand his paranoia and increasingly erratic behavior. But when they begin to uncover the violent truths behind their father’s history with Dracula, their world unravels, forcing them to confront the terrifying legacy they were never meant to inherit.

Director Sean Ellis has had an unusual career; if it seems like his fellow Brits, David Mackenzie and Kevin Macdonald have been genre-agnostic, Ellis has taken things a step farther. He remains best known for the deeply affecting drama Metro Manila, which is essentially a foreign-language film. But a few years ago, he tried his hand at horror. He directed the werewolf movie The Cursed, starring Kelly Reilly and Boyd Holbrook, and while the film didn't make much of a dent at the box office, it's climbing up the streaming ranks following its Netflix debut.

According to FlixPatrol, The Cursed was the sixth-most-popular film on Netflix in the United States on July 20, beating the likes of Brick, Penguins of Madagascar, Despicable Me 4, and The Old Guard 2. That's quite a diverse slate of titles for any film to outperform, let alone one that barely got a theatrical release despite being designed for one.

The 15 Best A24 Movies Ranked
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

When we typically muse on who should be considered the "author" of a film, I don't think we ever come to the conclusion of "the studio." Sure, there are some pockets of vision within the history of movie studios -- the Warner Bros. gangster picture, the Universal horror movie, the Paramount "maverick 1970s film" -- but by and large, they provide the means to the end, the money and distribution deal for directors to make their mark on culture.

A24, however, is anything but typical. Founded in 2012 by Daniel Katz, David Fenkel, and John Hodges, and named after an Italian motorway Katz was driving down, the independent movie studio has become one of the 21st century's most notable film tastemakers. It's a brand unto itself, a marker of a certain "type" of movie that indicates quality and intrigue. And even...

'Nosferatu' Director's 'Werwulf' Adds Willem Dafoe to All-Star Cast
Image
Robert Eggers is bringing in one of his frequent favorites for his highly anticipated Werwulf. Following the release of Nosferatu, which saw the filmmaker give the vampire genre a critically acclaimed and box office hit, Focus Features is hoping the director can do the same for the werewolf genre. Werwulf is increasingly becoming a Nosferatu reunion film as both Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily Rose Depp are set to star in the movie, and now Eggers has brought on his most recurring actor.

Deadline reports that Willem Dafoe has joined the cast of Werwulf in an undisclosed role. This marks Dafoe and Eggers' fourth collaboration after 2019's The Lighthouse, 2022's The Northman, and 2024's Nosferatu. Eggers is also set to direct Dafoe in a new feature film adaptation of A Christmas Carol, where Dafoe will play Ebenezer Scrooge. Robert Eggers is teaming up again with Willem Dafoe for his next movie, Werwulf, which is set to release on Christmas Day 2026 in North America, according to several sources. Dafoe is in talks to join the cast alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily-Rose Depp. Eggers will direct and co-wrote the script with his longtime collaborator Sjón, who also worked on The Northman.

The film is being produced and financed by Focus Features, with Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner from Working Title and Chris and Eleanor Columbus from Maiden Voyage also on board as producers. Legendary Actor and Long-Time Robert Eggers Collaborator, 69, in Talks to Join His Next Dark Horror Film
Image
Willem Dafoe may be teaming with Robert Eggers again. Dafoe, who has starred in three previous films from the director, is in talks to join the cast of Werwulf, Eggers' latest chilling tale of period horror. So far, his role and the film's plot are being kept under wraps, but presumably the film will feature the legendary lycanthropic beast of the title. You'll be able to find out on December 25, 2026.

As per Deadline, Dafoe is not confirmed for the film yet, but is still in talks. Dafoe joins a cast that will already seem familiar to him, as it already features two cast members of Eggers' chilling reimagining of Nosferatu. Aaron Taylor-Johnson will play the lead in the film, while Lily-Rose Depp is, like Dafoe, in talks to join the cast. Willem Dafoe in talks to join Robert Eggers’ Werwulf
The Witch (2015)
The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman, and Nosferatu writer/director Robert Eggers has dealt with some dark subject matter over the course of his career – but the darkest story is yet to come. No, not in his Labyrinth sequel or his adaptation of A Christmas Carol, but in the project he’s going to make before those two: the creature feature Werwulf, which he’s making for Focus Features, aiming for a Christmas Day 2026 theatrical release. Robert Eggers' New Horror Movie Preserves A 6-Year Streak As Third Nosferatu Star Joins Cast
Image
Robert Eggers is a visionary director whose cinematic tapestry weaves together horror, folklore, and ancient myth with meticulous historical precision. His debut was the A24 horror film The Witch (2015), which emerged from the shadows like a dark enchantment, haunting and austere, rich in atmosphere and dread. A triumph both creatively and commercially, the film announced Eggers as a bold new voice in horror storytelling.

Following this triumph, Eggers returned to A24 for The Lighthouse (2019), a tempestuous tale of isolation and madness drenched in sea mist and old-world despair. A period piece bathed in eerie black-and-white beauty, it captivated critics and audiences alike, further cementing Eggers' command of mood and myth. With poetic dialogue and surreal performances, the film shimmered with mythological weight and psychological complexity.

After two A24 films, Eggers graduated on to Focus Features and set his sights on Norse legend withThe Northman (2022), an Amleth-inspired Viking epic. Though it underperformed at the box office,...

All 4 Ari Aster Movies (Including Eddington), Ranked
Image
Although there has been growing enthusiasm for rising horror auteurs like Jordan Peele, Robert Eggers, Mike Flanagan, and Coralie Fargeat, no filmmaker has elicited quite as extreme of response as Ari Aster. While Aster’s talent was evident from some of his early, disturbing short films, his work within features has raised the threshold for upsetting content. There’s certainly an art to being transgressive for the sake of attention, but Aster has woven in delicate stories about human fragility and developed consistent working relationships with some of the industry’s finest actors. It’s far too early to judge whether Aster is the heir apparent to filmmakers like Tobe Hooper or Wes Craven, but he has earned enough name recognition that any of his upcoming projects has become an event worthy of anticipation.

Aster’s aptitude for prolonged, uncomfortable sequences that get under the audience’s skin may now...

It’s a Nosferatu reunion! Aaron Taylor-Johnson to star in Robert Eggers’ Werwulf, with Lily-Rose Depp also in talks
Robert Eggers
Robert Eggers may be staging a little Nosferatu reunion with Werwulf as Aaron Taylor-Johnson is set to star in the upcoming horror flick. Not only that, but Lily-Rose Depp is also in talks to join the project. Both actors starred in Nosferatu.

The film is already slated for a December 25, 2026 release, and Eggers plans on shooting it later this year. He co-wrote the script with Sjón, his co-writer on The Northman. Details are being kept under wraps, but it’s been said that the story is set in 13th-century England. The script features “dialogue that was true to the time period and has translations and annotations for those uninitiated in Old English.” The film was initially planned to be shot in black-and-white, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Eggers has teased that Werwulf is “the darkest thing I’ve ever written, by far.“

Every Robert Eggers Movie, Ranked from Worst to Best
Image
A decade ago, Robert Eggers suddenly broke into Hollywood, seemingly coming out of nowhere, and made his mark with the darkly twisted, unsettling, and fanatical debut feature, The Witch. The film not only brought Anya Taylor-Joy into the industry but also elevated Eggers to a maestro of horror.

His unmatched skill with the genre has since then been unquestionable. Equipped with exactly the kind of scripts that make A24 go over the moon, Eggers steadily rose in Hollywood by breaking norms, challenging propriety, questioning the status quo, and examining socio-political and religious truths without offending either the orthodoxical society, politics, or religion.

Here is a list of all four Robert Eggers movies, ranked from worst to best:

4. Nosferatu (2024) Nosferatu (2024) feat. Lily-Rose Depp [Credit: Universal Pictures, Focus Pictures]

Ranked only 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is a strangely dark adaptation of the 1922 classic, Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror. With a stacked...

Kraven Star Aaron Taylor-Johnson Will Play Robert Eggers' Werwulf; Lily-Rose Depp In Talks
Image
Robert Eggers' Nosferatu proved to be a huge success for Focus Features, and we found out earlier this year that the acclaimed filmmaker is staying with the studio - and firmly in the horror genre - for his next project, Werwulf, which he also co-wrote with fellow The Northman scribe, Sjón.

Just in case the title didn't give it away, this will be a werewolf movie. Plot details are few and far between, but we know that the story will be set in 13th century England. The script is also said to "feature dialogue that was true to the time period and has translations and annotations for those uninitiated to Old English."

Nexus Point News (since confirmed by Variety) is reporting that the movie has found its leads, with Nosferatu stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily-Rose Depp set to re-team with Eggers. Taylor-Johnson is expected to play the titular werewolf, with...

Aaron Taylor-Johnson joins Robert Eggers ‘Werwulf,’ Lily Rose Depp in talks to join cast
Robert Eggers
Robert Eggers, the visionary filmmaker of the remake Nosferatu, is partnering again with Aaron Taylor‑Johnson. The actor will star in Eggers’ gothic horror ‘Werwulf.’ Set in 13th‑century England with authentic Old English dialogue. Lily‑Rose Depp is in negotiations to play Taylor‑Johnson’s wife. Although plot details are still under wraps, insiders say Werwulf will weave in witchcraft elements, leaning into Eggers’ signature folklore-driven horror, and promises to be his most graphically intense film yet. With a script co-written by Eggers and Icelandic poet Sjón (who also collaborated on The Northman), this will be a genuine plunge into Old English atmosphere and visceral horror. Also in news – Andrew Garfield officially signs on for Luca Guadagnino’s AI‑themed thriller ‘Artificial’ Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title are producing alongside Eggers and Sjón, while Maiden Voyage’s Chris and Eleanor Columbus are serving as executive producers. Production is...

Aaron Taylor-Johnson Sets Robert Eggers Reunion With Werwulf — Lily-Rose Depp In Talks To Co-Star
Image
He's faced Alphas (28 Years Later), Rhinos (Kraven The Hunter), vampires (Nosferatu), and years of media lines asking whether or not he'll ever play James Bond, but for his next move, it looks like Aaron Taylor-Johnson is preparing to dance with the devil in the pale (full-)moonlight. Per Variety's reporting, the English actor is set to reunite with Nosferatu director Robert Eggers on the filmmaker's upcoming 13th century-set horror joint Werwulf. And, what's more, fellow Eggers alumni Lily-Rose Depp is in talks to join him.

Set to immerse cinemagoers in a meticulously detailed period setting once again, Werwulf — co-written by Eggers alongside Icelandic poet and The Northman scribe Sjón — is currently slated for release on Christmas Day 2026 stateside, meaning we'll likely see the movie hit British shores sometime in early 2027. In terms of what to expect from the movie however, beyond Eggers' now-customary era-accurate language and, presumably, a werewolf of some description,...

Hence, the actor now has a chance to redeem himself with Eggers’ new project, which is promised to be his darkest one yet.

How Werwulf Can Redeem Aaron Taylor-Johnson After Nosferatu Disappointment

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is fresh off the success of the post-apocalyptic horror movie 28 Years Later. According to reports, the actor is set to reunite with director Robert Eggers for the latter’s upcoming period horror movie Werwulf, marking their second collaboration after Nosferatu.

Sources tell Nexus Point News that Taylor-Johnson will play the werewolf itself, while Depp will take on the role of his wife. The story reportedly involves witchcraft, and insiders say this could be one of Eggers’ most violent and graphic films yet. Filming is expected to kick off this September.

The Casting for Robert Eggers’ Next Film Might Pull This James Bond Hopeful Out of Contention
Image
Robert Eggers is set to continue building his name as a modern master of atmospheric, unsettling, and often period cinema, with his next film with Focus Features – Werwulf. With a Christmas Day 2026 theatrical release date on the calendar, the film is gearing up to enter production, as is evident by two casting confirmations that have come via Deadline today. The film is set to reunite the director with Nosferatu supporting actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson in a starring role, with Lily-Rose Depp also in talks to join.

A 'Nosferatu' Reunion for 'Werwulf'

Following an impressive string of successes beginning with The Witch, Eggers has won over horror and period audiences with The Lighthouse, The Northman, and most recently the 2024 remake of the 1922 classic Nosferatu. Next, Eggers is tackling another period piece with Werwulf, which he described as “a medieval werewolf movie” earlier this year, continuing on to say...

Robert Eggers
Robert Eggers will be following up Nosferatu with Werwulf for Focus Features, and Variety reports tonight that Nosferatu star Aaron Taylor-Johnson has signed onto the project.

Additionally, Lily-Rose Depp (Nosferatu) is currently in talks to join the film as well.

Set in the 13th century and being described as a medieval horror movie, Robert Eggers’ Werwulf will howl its way into theaters from Focus Features on Christmas Day 2026.

The filmmaker co-wrote the screenplay for Werwulf alongside Sjón, the Icelandic poet and novelist who previously co-wrote the Viking movie The Northman with Eggers. Sjón has also been announced as the co-writer for a new Labyrinth movie being directed by Eggers.

Image
“Nosferatu” star Aaron Taylor-Johnson is set to reunite with director Robert Eggers on his next film, “Werwulf,” set for a Christmas 2026 release by Focus Features.

In “Nosferatu,” Taylor-Johnson played Friedrich Harding, a wealthy shipbuilder who does not heed Thomas and Ellen Hutter’s warnings that their German town has fallen under the curse of the vampire Count Orlok until it is too late.

Eggers co-wrote “Werwulf” with Icelandic writer Sjon, with whom he wrote his 2022 Viking revenge tale “The Northman.” The upcoming film will be set in the 13th century and will have Chris and Eleanor Columbus return as executive producers through their banner Maiden Voyage.

“Nosferatu” was a smash hit for Focus Features this past winter with $181 million grossed worldwide, becoming the studio’s third highest grossing film in history. “Werwulf” will hit theaters in 2026 as a likely R-rated gothic horror alternative to four-quadrant fare like Marvel’s “Avengers: Doomsday...

Robert Eggers Calls Back Two Nosferatu Stars to Reunite for Another Horror Film About Iconic Monster

Robert Eggers found a lot of success with Nosferatu, a vampire story derived from the original horror tale Dracula. He's now looking at bringing a werewolf story to life for the filmmaker's next project, though he's going to be doing so with the help of some of the stars of Nosferatu.

Robert Eggers Reunites With 2 Nosferatu Stars For His Newest Horror Movie
Image
Robert Eggers will be reuniting with two of the stars of his hit gothic horror remake Nosferatu for his upcoming creature feature Werwulf. Slated to open on Christmas Day in 2026, Werwulf will feature a script co-written by Eggers and Sjón. While no plot details have been revealed, the movie will reportedly be set in 13th-century England and shot entirely using Old English dialogue, with annotations and translations throughout to ensure understanding.

The new film will no doubt fall in line with Eggers' typical style, which is marked by intricate attention to detail and period realism, along with a healthy dose of spine-chilling dread. There was a sneaky tease for Werwulf buried in Nosferatu's extended cut, but Eggers' latest will be another stand-alone movie like the rest of his directorial filmography.

As originally reported by Nexus Point News, and later confirmed by Variety, Nosferatu stars Lily-Rose Depp and Aaron Taylor-Johnson...

$70M Viking Epic With 90% Rt Score Becomes A Global Streaming Hit, 3 Years After Release
Image
Three years after its box office disappointment, an epic Viking movie has found success on streaming, and is quickly sailing up the charts. Vikings have long been a source of great inspiration on the big screen, with tales of high adventure and epic battles. Norse mythology has also been a popular subject, with gods like Thor becoming pop culture icons.

While Vikings aren't nearly as popular in cinema as they used to be, there is usually a new film every few years to help reignite interest. A few years before Nosferatu, director Robert Eggers tried to put his own spin on Viking lore. While it didn't do so well in theaters, his historical epic is a bona fide streaming hit.

Alexander Skarsgård’s $90 Million Action Epic Box Office Flop Finds Redemption as a Streaming Hit
Image
Director Robert Eggersdelivered the biggest hit of his career only a few months ago, making good on a decade-long promise to become one of the foremost genre filmmakers of his generation. Despite the critical acclaim that he'd been showered with, not to mention the devoted cult following he'd earned for himself, Eggers hadn't made a bona fide blockbuster before Nosferatu last year. His previous attempt, the revenge saga The Northman, had flopped at the box office. However, the movie was a major hit on the PVOD market. It's now witnessing a resurgence on HBO Max, coinciding with the finale of star Alexander Skarsgård's Apple TV+ series Murderbot.

Released in 2022, The Northman debuted to excellent reviews, with particular praise being directed at the film's ambitious scope and Eggers' handling of the action sequences. It holds a "certified fresh" 90% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, where the critics' consensus reads,...

New Dracula Horror Movie Starring Bosch Actor Debuts With Disappointing Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
Dracula, Bram Stoker's 1897 novel, endures as a towering monument of gothic literature, its shadow stretching across centuries and cultures. With a mesmerizing blend of horror, sensuality, and dark romanticism, the Count has seduced generations of readers and filmmakers alike, from F.W. Murnau's silent nightmare Nosferatu (1922) to Bela Lugosi's haunting gaze in Dracula (1931).

Christopher Lee starred in Hammer's Dracula movies, his sanguine presence on full display in ten films, cementing the Count's cinematic immortality. Later, Francis Ford Coppola's opulent 1992 adaptation draped the tale in velvet and tragedy. More recently, Robert Eggers breathed eerie life into the legend with a new Nosferatu. Each adaptation reflects each era's fears and fascinations, but the Count's hypnotic pull remains undiminished.

However, not all Dracula adaptations are kissed by moonlight, and in fact, there is a new movie coming out that is drawing the ire of critics.

The horror! ‘Sinners’ and ‘The Substance’ lead Fangoria Chainsaw Awards nominations of year’s scariest offerings

The grossest, goriest, and most gratuitous of the year are set to be feted at the 2025 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards.

The horror magazine has unveiled the nominees for its signature awards, which includes the big categories you'd expect — like Best Wide Release and Best Lead Performance — and some you mind not—like Best Video Game and Best Public Domain Resurrection.

The Chainsaw Awards are also among the first opportunities for this year's potential awards frontrunner, Sinners, to flex its muscles. (Metaphorical muscles. Michael B. Jordan's are currently streaming on HBO Max.) Ryan Coogler's period vampire thriller is in contention for Best Wide Release — where it will compete with 28 Years Later — and boasts a total of ten nominations in all.

With an eligibility window that ran from July 2024 to June 2025, the Chainsaw Awards also include some of last year's awards contenders, including The Substance, which tied Sinners for nominations.
