Harvey Keitel and Britt Robertson have teamed for comedy-drama “The Letter,” now in its final week of filming in Buenos Aires, with Rodrigo H. Vila directing.

Written by Vila and Sebastián Meschengieser with script collaboration from Andy Weiss, the film follows Finn (Keitel), an old war veteran, who wants to write a goodbye letter to his only daughter. He decides to hire failed writer Julia (Robertson), who is desperate for money. The two, each feeling lost in their own ways, form an unusual yet endearing friendship that ultimately transforms both their lives.

“The Letter” marks the second collaboration between writer, director and producer Vila and Keitel. The two first worked together on the 2019 sci-fi thriller “The Last Man.”

Natalia Oreiro (“The German Doctor”) and Juan Minujín are set to star in “Bypass: Almost Dead” (“Bypass: Casi Muerta”).

Adapting the original Basque film “Bypass,” the first feature of Aitor Mazo and Patxo Tellería which scored 15 nominations at the 2013 Spanish Academy Goya Awards, “Bypass: Almost Dead” is produced by Argentina’s Cinema 7 Films and Non Stop and will be directed by Fernán Mirás. The director’s debut feature, “El Peso de la Ley” (“The Heavy Hand of the Law”), snagged six nominations at Argentina’s 2017 Premios Sur.

A screwball romantic comedy, the original “Bypass” turns on the feckless Aitor, who visits a dying woman friend María who, he learns, has always carried a candle for him. To grant her an almost last wish, he falsely confesses he has always loved her, which sparks her miraculous recovery, leaving Aitor to juggle a new love life and a relationship with a girl-friend...

It seems like it’s been awhile since we’ve seen either of these actors in a movie, and now they’ve popped up in an interesting one together.

"We must prepare for the worst of humanity." Lionsgate has launched a trailer for an indie sci-fi action film titled The Last Man, which is pretty much the opposite (in every way) from this year's film The First Man. From director Rodrigo H. Vila, the film stars Hayden Christensen as a war veteran with post traumatic stress disorder who perceives that the end of the world is coming. After establishing a relationship with a dubious Messiah, he leaves his normal life to begin the construction of a shelter underground and trains himself, in an extreme way, at the cost of everything in his life. When he also believes the Messiah, something extraordinary happens. The cast includes Harvey Keitel, Liz Solari, Marco Leonardi, Fernan Miras, Justin Kelly, and Rafael Spregelburd. While I am always curious about new sci-fi, this looks like one of those throwaway, forgettable action flicks that no one will ever watch.

You have to love it when a Pa flick comes out of nowhere. Numb, at the Edge of the World comes from writer/director Rodrigo H. Vila and stars Hayden Christensen (Vanishing on 7th Street, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones) and Harvey Keitel.

The Cannes Film Festival is currently in full swing in the south of France, and one of the movies being sold to worldwide buyers at the fest is Numb, At the Edge of the End. Vmi Worldwide has debuted the first trailer for this indie thriller, as it seeks international buyers at Cannes. The film doesn't have a release date in place yet, and it doesn't seem that the film has a domestic distributor quite yet, but that may change at the festival.

In Mercedes Sosa: The Voice of Latin America, director Rodrigo H. Vila returns again and again to a close-up of a clock, like he's remaking High Noon instead of weaving together an unpersuasive hagiography of a beloved Argentine folk singer.

Mercedes Sosa rose from poverty to become an influential opponent of President Jorge Rafael Videla's military dictatorship, finally seeking refuge in Europe from 1979 until the regime collapsed in 1982.

The footage of Sosa seems to be entirely archival — she died in 2009 at age 74 — but Vila enjoyed expansive access to her family (Sosa's son, Fabián Matus, is credited with "Idea and Guest Appearance") and musical collaborators (David Byrne is the only talking head likely to be recognizable to viewer...

An Argentine legend is about to hit the big screen.

“Mercedes Sosa, The Voice of Latin America,” a documentary about one of Latin America’s most popular folksingers, will debut at the Panama International Film Festival next month, Mexican news agency Notimex reports.

From a look at the trailer above, it seems like a high-energy portrayal of the singer’s life, focusing on the politics of the Argentine military dictatorship that she -- unlike the newly installed pope -- publicly challenged.

Directed by Rodrigo Vila, the film features interviews with some of Latin America’s finest singer-songwriters, including Cuba’s Pablo Milanés and Brazil’s Chico Buarque, along with former Talking Heads frontman and Latin American music aficionado David Byrne.

"Mercedes was a symbol of freedom," Buarque says in the trailer.

The daughter of a sugarcane worker in the northern province of Tucumán, Sosa grew famous for singing songs that championed the poor.
