The industry section of the 61st Thessaloniki Iff will run via digital platforms and will introduce new initiatives focused on the local film industry. The 61st Thessaloniki International Film Festival is scheduled to run from 5-15 November, and as every year, in parallel with the festival, the Agora industry section has announced its complete selection for this edition. Owing to current circumstances, the Agora will take place online and will run from 7-14 November. It will once again be spread across several different sections. Supported by Creative Europe – Media, Agora is maintaining its focus on Southeast Europe, the Balkans and the Mediterranean Basin. This year, the Agora ambassador will be well-known actress Katia Goulioni (Still River), who will promote the section’s events and goals. The ceremony was conducted online, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, and broadcast by public TV network Ert.

Screen’s regularly updated list of foreign language Oscar submissions.

Nominations for the 91st Academy Awards are not until Tuesday January 22, but the first submissions for best foreign-language film are now being announced.

Last year saw a record 92 submissions for the award, which were narrowed down to a shortlist of nine. This was cut to five nominees, with Sebastián Lelio’s transgender drama A Fantastic Woman ultimately taking home the gold statue.

Now in its 12th year, the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival ended its 12th run on Sunday evening with Orpheus Awards handed out in several categories, plus an honorary Orpheus for Greek-American actor George Chakiris, who won the Oscar for best supporting actor Academy Award in 1961’s “West Side Story.” His costar, Rita Moreno, who scored a best supporting actress Oscar for the same film, presented Chakiris with his trophy.
