YouTube and Google’s global head of music Lyor Cohen has been confirmed to receive City of Hope’s highest honor, the Spirit of Life Award, at its fall gala.

The veteran music executive will receive the shine on Oct. 18 at West Hollywood’s Pacific Design Center. The Spirit of Life Award is “presented to an esteemed community of industry leaders around the world who have made a significant commitment to improving the lives of others through the advancement of research and clinical innovation and the delivery of personalized, compassionate care,” per City of Hope.

Once he takes a spin at the podium, Lyor will join a list of previous recipients that includes Shelli and Irving Azoff, Edgar Bronfman Jr., Coran Capshaw, Eddy Cue, Clive Davis, Lucian Grainge, Allen Grubman, Quincy Jones, Rob Light, Monte and Avery Lipman, Doug Morris, Mo Ostin, Bob Pittman, Jon Platt and Sylvia Rhone, among others.

Nearly a week after a woman sued Ahmet Ertegun and Atlantic Records claiming the record executive sexually assaulted her over 30 years ago, a second woman has come forward alleging that Ertegun assaulted her while she was an employee at the label, and that Atlantic enabled his behavior.

Dorothy Carvello, who served as Ertegun’s assistant before becoming Atlantic’s first female A&r executive in the early 1990s, claimed in a lawsuit filed in New York Supreme Court on Sunday that Ertegun physically and sexually assaulted her on numerous occasions...

Billy Porter will pull double duty for City of Hope at its Spirit of Life Gala.

The Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award-winning talent will host and perform at the event, set for West Hollywood’s Pacific Design Center on Oct. 27. He joins a program that already includes fellow performer Jack Johnson and Spirit of Life Award honorees Monte and Avery Lipman, Republic Records founders, chief executives and brothers.

The Spirit of Life Award is City of Hope’s most prestigious honor and handed out to industry leaders “who have made a significant commitment to improving the lives of others through the advancement of research and clinical innovation, as well as the delivery of personalized, compassionate care.” Previous recipients include Sylvia Rhone, Jon Platt, Mo Ostin, Clive Davis, Quincy Jones, Frances W. Preston, Shelli and Irving Azoff, Edgar Bronfman Jr., Doug Morris and Sir Lucian Grainge.

Jack Johnson has a City of Hope gig on Oct. 27.

The eco-conscious rocker has been booked as the headline performer at City of Hope’s Spirit of Life Gala. Held at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles, this year’s event marks the first in-person one in the series after two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Johnson, prepping for the release of his highly anticipated eighth studio album, Meet the Moonlight, says he’s excited to be a part of the night honoring his friends, Monte and Avery Lipman. The brothers are co-founders and chief executives of Republic Records and, as previously announced, set to receive the night’s highest honor, the Spirit of Life Award.

Grammy-winning rapper, producer, Songwriters Hall-of-Famer, and So So Def label owner Jermaine Dupri will lead City of Hope's first-ever after-party at The Barker Hangar in Santa Monica following next week’s eagerly anticipated gala at the same location.

Dupri was recently honored with his own exhibit at the Grammy Museum in Downtown Los Angeles. The four-month So So Def exhibit is dedicated to his work in shaping hip-hop culture. This will be Dupri’s last event before he hits the road for the Cultural Curren$y Tour – a celebration of his Atlanta-based label’s 25th anniversary.

The Oct. 11 celebration supporting the acclaimed nonprofit will see Jon Platt, Chairman and CEO of Warner/Chappell Music, honored with the organization’s prestigious Spirit of Life award. Beyoncé will perform at the gala, which will be hosted by Pharrell Williams, with Jay-z presenting the award to Platt.
