On Tuesday, the attorney representing golf star Rory McIlroy filed a motion to voluntarily dismiss a divorce petition that was filed by McIlroy in a Florida court last month.
The four-time major champion said that he had reconciled with his wife, Erica Stoll, to whom he has been married for seven years. The case is now closed, according to court records.
“There have been rumors about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate,” McIlroy told The Guardian. “Responding to each rumor is a fool’s game. Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”
In the Palm Beach County family court filing on May 13, McIlroy’s attorney, Thomas Sasser, wrote that the marriage was irretrievably broken.

New York, Sep 4 (Ians) Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko maintained her clean sheet against Iga Swiatek, ending the World No.1’s US Open title defense with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory in the fourth round.
Swiatek’s loss on Sunday means World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka will overtake the Pole and ascend to the No.1 ranking after the US Open. Swiatek will have held the top spot for 75 consecutive weeks, the third-longest first-time streak in Wta Tour history.
Into her first US Open quarterfinal, Ostapenko will next face No.6 Coco Gauff. The two have split their two prior meetings, with Ostapenko knocking the American out of the Australian Open in January.
After taking the first set handily, a listless Swiatek found herself down 1-4 against Ostapenko. It was a deficit she could not overcome, thanks to Ostapenko’s solid service games, and the No. 20 seed assertively tucked away the set to force a decisive third.

Ballers incorporates real-life athletes, including Stephen Curry and Antonio Brown, to give an authentic depiction of the sports industry. Athletes like Julian Edelman and Terrell Suggs make appearances in multiple episodes, adding depth to the show's storyline. The inclusion of non-football athletes like Giancarlo Stanton and Caroline Wozniacki shows the broad reach of the series beyond just football.
There are many real athlete cameos in the HBO series Ballers starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The Rock himself had hopes of playing professional football before an injury kept him sidelined which changed the course of his career. The Rock's character in Ballers, Spencer Strasmore, follows a similar path of being a former player whose career is impacted by an injury. Strasmore rises in the field as a financial manager who builds meaningful relationships with his clientele full of top athletes and sports stars.

New Delhi, June 29 (Ians) Three years after retiring from tennis, 2018 Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki on Thursday announced that she will make her return to tour this summer.
Former World No.1 Wozniacki — the first player from Denmark to win a major — retired in January 2020 after a third-round loss in Melbourne. A diagnosis of debilitating rheumatoid arthritis was a factor in her decision.
Wozniacki, a mother of two who turns 33 in a few weeks, and husband David Lee, a former NBA player, are parents to 2-year-old Olivia and 8-month-old James. Since last year, Wozniacki has served as an analyst as well.
Wozniacki plans to start playing in Montreal to regain her form. She and her team will then move to New York. After this, she has set aside two months to prepare for the Australian Open. She has left her plans open after that but notably mentioned the Paris Olympics as a key goal.

Indian Wells (USA), March 14 (Ians) World No 1 Iga Swiatek narrowly escaped Bianca Andreescu 6-3, 7-6 (1) to reach the Round of 16 at Indian Wells Masters in breezy, heavy conditions, here.

Ostrava (Czech Republic), Oct 7 (Ians) World No.1 Iga Swiatek reached her 10th semifinal of 2022 with a 6-4, 6-4 defeat of qualifier Caty McNally at the Ostrava Open, here on Friday.
Having set a record for the longest Wta Tour winning streak between February and July, US Open champion Swiatek’s active streak has now ticked up to nine.
The Pole’s overall season record is 59-7 — one victory away from tying Caroline Wozniacki, the last player to win 60 matches in a single season. The former World No.1 hit that mark in 2017.
Despite being able to wrap up the win in straight sets, Swiatek required 1 hour and 54 minutes to quell McNally’s challenge. There was little smooth sailing against an opponent with whom Swiatek had won the 2018 Roland Garros girls’ doubles title — and to whom she had lost both of their junior meetings.

New York, Sep 2 (Ians) The pair of Venus and Serena Williams, in perhaps their final appearance together on the tennis court, lost to Lucie Hradecka and Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic 7-6 (5), 6-4 to bow out in the first round of the US Open women’s doubles competition on Friday (Ist).
Lucie Hradecka, 37, and Linda Noskova, 17, despite the age gap, gelled well at the sold-out Arthur Ashe Stadium to demolish the 14-time doubles Grand Slam champions after the first set went on for a marathon 63 minutes.
The legendary pair quickly packed their kits, waved briefly to the crowd and walked together to the locker room.
The soon-to-be retiring Serena will play Ajla Tomljanovic on Australia in women’s singles for a spot in the Round of 16.
Venus said post-match that it was Serena’s idea to play doubles.

The 2019 U.S. Open coverage on ESPN has grown in the ratings compared with last year on each of its first four days, the network said Friday. And that’s before Saturday’s primetime showdown in the year’s final tennis Grand Slam tournament featuring 15-year-old U.S. phenom Coco Gauff against defending champ (and 21-year-old) Naomi Osaka of Japan.
ESPN reported that viewership through Thursday’s two rounds, dominated by storylines in the women’s draw, has averaged 691,000, up 26% over last year, with each window outperforming the comparative one in 2018. That peaked last night with ESPN2’s coverage of Gauff’s three-set victory over Timea Babos to reach the third round of the New York-set tournament.
Viewership for the match peaked at 2.16 million late in the match, which Gauff pulled out in front of 14,000 at the main Louis Armstrong Stadium. She became the youngest female to advance this far...

David Lee put a ring on it!
While vacationing in Bora Bora, the NBA player proposed to his tennis star girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki. On Friday, she tweeted out the first peek at her huge, sparkling new accessory.
“Happiest day of my life yesterday saying yes to my soulmate,” Wozniacki wrote.
Not to be outshined by the ring, Lee followed up with an Instagram post of his own featuring a beautiful picture of the couple and the text, “She said Yes! So thrilled to be engaged to my soulmate!”
The couple made their relationship public about eight months ago.
This is the second engagement for Wozniacki. In 2014, she was set to wed golfer Rory Mcllroy, but in a stunning move, he called off the engagement shortly after they sent out the wedding invitations. Wozniacki has clearly bounced back, finally finding her “soulmate” in Lee.
