However, audiences are fickle, and going to the cinema is expensive, even if you’re sneaking snacks from the Bulk Barn and requesting sparkling water instead of Coca-Cola. Despite positive reviews and solid word of mouth, Armas’s Ballerina stumbled at the box office. Thankfully, Ballerina is already Jetéing to the top of the PVOD charts.

It’s no secret that The Umbrella Academy has honed the art of balancing emotion with absurdity. But I’m still willing to defend the show with everything that I have for its convincing alternate timelines, dysfunctional sibling dynamics, and time travel.

Ballerina director Len Wiseman shared one of his original ideas for the John Wick spinoff’s ending sequences, which would have introduced another character. The filmmaker is no stranger to the action genre, after previously directing two Underworld movies, 2007’s Live Free or Die Hard, and 2012’s Total Recall.

During a recent interview with EW, Wiseman opened up about his alternate ending idea, which involves Eve’s supposedly dead mother. Just like the first film in the franchise, the story here is straightforward. Eve Macarro lives with her father, Javier Macarro (David Castañeda), near the coast, protected by the surrounding waters and the army of guards around their home. Review: Ballerina is one of the more satisfying franchise spin-offs in recent memory. In this era of IP, every studio is desperate to max out the potential sequels and spinoffs their key franchises can handle, and Lionsgate has a whole slew planned around the John Wick franchise. Yet, what makes Ballerina different is that this doesn’t feel like much of a derivative of the franchise, given that Keanu Reeves was coaxed back to reprise his role. While his contribution to the film is mainly limited to the last act, his involvement is far more than a cameo, with him having a legitimate supporting role, giving the movie a welcome sense of legitimacy.

The movie takes place between the third and fourth John Wick movies.

You’ve got to love Anjelica Huston, wearing pounds of power jewelry and Cher-strength makeup as a Ruska Roma crime queen known only as “The Director,” putting a young ballet student through her pirouette paces until her toes have bled clean through her satin pointe shoes. “Tend to your wounds before you get sepsis and we have to cut off your feet,” the Director intones in a lugubrious Belarusian accent. If the dizzying crescendo of intricately choreographed fight scenes is the main attraction in Ballerina, it’s those occasional moments of dry humor that make it a welcome extension of the John Wick universe.

Michael Angelo Covino’s open marriage comedy “Splitsville” brought much-needed laughter to Cannes on Monday night, earning a warm six-minute ovation.

When it comes to blockbusters, it's not uncommon to hear about big movies undergoing reshoots. Whenever that happens, we immediately think that it means bad news and that studio heads are having second thoughts about the story, but that's certainly not always the case. During a new press junket to promote Ballerina, Ian McShane (Deadwood) spoke to Collider's Perri Nemiroff about his experience with reshoots and what it meant for the story of the upcoming spin-off movie.

During the interview, McShane explained to Nemiroff how the Ballerina reshoots helped define Winston's relationship with Ana de Armas' titular character. Neon’s “Splitsville” starring Dakota Johnson, Adria Arjona and Kyle Marvin has set an Aug. 22 theatrical release following its debut in Cannes Film Festival’ Premiere section this month.

From director Michael Angelo Covino, who also stars, the film’s official logline reads: “When Ashley (Arjona) asks for a divorce, the good-natured Carey (Marvin) runs to his friends, Julie (Johnson) and Paul (Covino), for support. To close out their CinemaCon presentation today, Lionsgate officially announced John Wick: Chapter 5, which is now in active development at the studio, with both director Chad Stahelski and star Keanu Reeves set to return.

To date, the franchise has grossed over $1.028 billion at the global box office, with each installment grossing more than the last. The original John Wick earned $86 million worldwide, John Wick: Chapter 2 grossed $174.3 million, John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum topped $328.3 million, and, most recently, John Wick: Chapter 4 collected $440.1 million worldwide.

A spinoff film, titled Ballerina is due out this summer, and two more John Wick films were announced earlier today: an anipated prequel film that will follow Baba Yaga as he completes The Impossible Task, and a Caine spinoff film that will follow Donnie Yen's character after the events of Chapter 4.

Following up on the John Wick animated prequel news, Lionsgate also announced today that John Wick: Chapter 4 star Donnie Yen will direct and headline an upcoming spinoff film centered around his scene-stealing character Caine.

The untitled feature is expected to kickstart production in Hong Kong later this year, with a screenplay from The Batman Part II scribe Mattson Tomlin. Plot details remain under warps, but the new film will continue Caine's story arc following the events of Chapter 4, as he has been freed from his obligations to the High Table.

It will be stylistically modeled on the uniquely designed action films that Yen helped make famous, so fans of the action legend should be very, very excited.

During their CinemaCon presentation today, Lionsgate announced a brand new animated John Wick prequel film, that will return Keanu Reeves to his iconic role.

The new film will be set before the events of the original John Wick, and will follow Baba Yaga as he completes "the Impossible Task - the killing of all of his rivals in one night - in order to free himself from his obligation to the High Table and earn the right to be with the love of his life, Helen."

The untitled animated feature will continue to deliver the highly stylized and defined action that fans of the franchise expect and will also be geared more toward adult audiences, meaning it will still carry an R-rating.

Yes, as the trailer reveals, The Director (Anjelica Huston) will send John Wick (Keanu Reeves) after Eve, in a last-ditch effort to stop her vendetta. John will offer her a choice, leave or die, and the battle commences. It certainly adds an interesting wrinkle to the film, as we were all previously under the assumption that Wick and Macarro would be allies and fight together, which could obviously still happen, but it looks like things will head into a different direction before the credits roll.

Speaking with Collider at Brazil's Ccxp, the actor shared how Ballerina's fight scenes were way more choreographed than anything he has ever had to do on The Walking Dead. "It’s a different fighting style, totally. The Walking Dead’s very sloppy, this is very choreographed and a lot of people put it together to make it safe and look spectacular," Reedus stated.
