Older adults with asthma at high risk of depression during Covid: Study
Image
New Delhi, Jan 20 (Ians) Older adults with asthma were at high risk of depression during the Covid-19 pandemic, a new study has shown.

According to the study published in the journal Respiratory Medicine, the numbers were extremely concerning for older adults with asthma who had previously experienced depression, with approximately one-half experiencing a recurrence of depression during the autumn of 2020, which was significantly higher than recurrence rates among their peers who did not have asthma.

However, those who were lonely had substantially elevated rates of depression.

“When considering the high comorbidity between asthma and depression prior to the pandemic, combined with the loneliness associated with extended periods of lockdown and the stress over being labelled high risk for severe Covid-19-related outcomes, it is unsurprising that this population experienced a precipitous decline in mental health during the pandemic,” said first author, Andie MacNeil, a research assistant at the Canada-based University of Toronto.

With IMDb, TikTok Finds Another Way to Hook Users and Make Money
Image
Finally, an easier way to fuel Timothée Chalamet obsessions: TikTok now lets users link directly to a movie or TV show’s page on IMDb.

Now available to users in the U.S. and the United Kingdom, TikTok users will see an option to “add link” before publishing a video. Search “movie and TV,” find anything available via the database, and you can attach related videos, linking up to five different movies or shows in a single video. There’s also a dedicated, in-app page that draws up relevant data.

For fans, TikTok’s license of IMDb data makes it easier to find all content related to, say, “Wednesday” on the app. For IMDb, it means cash for the licensing fees, and for TikTok, it’s a potent marketing tool that it can pitch to studios and presumably will feed the app’s robust ad revenue. Currently, it’s projected...

IMDb wants TikTok users to talk up their favorite movies and shows
Image
TikTok‘s newest feature is powered by IMDb.

The two are collaborating on a tool that allows users to link directly to up to five TV shows and movies per video—and when those links are tapped, they’ll open a “dedicated in-app page” that “highlights essential data about the movie or TV show”–with that data, of course, ported straight from IMDb.

The in-app pages will offer info about movies’ and shows’ top cast members, directors, original release dates, runtimes, and ratings from viewers and critics. Users can also pin movies and TV shows to favorites tab of their TikTok profiles, so people who visit their pages know if they’re currently digging Avatar: The Way of Water or mourning 1899‘s cancellation (or both).

On top of data about the actual shows/films users link, the IMDb x TikTok feature pages will give visitors information about other shows and...

TikTok to License IMDb Data for Feature Targeting Film and TV Content (Exclusive)
Image
TikTok is licensing data from IMDb to power a new feature that will make it easier for users to search for content related to a specific film or TV title and see relevant data about the work — such as its cast and release date — on a dedicated, in-app page.

The feature, which will first be rolled out to users in the U.S. and the U.K., will allow creators to add a link to the film or TV show referenced in their video. The tagged work will then appear above the caption after the video is posted, and viewers will be able to click that link and be directed to another page with IMDb-powered information about the title, as well as a spread of other TikTok videos that have also tagged the same movie or TV show.

Creators will also be able to link to their favorite shows and movies on their profiles,...
