Julia Fox is name-dropping another star who was almost cast in her role of Julia De Fiore in Uncut Gems.
In a Wednesday appearance on the Jay Shetty Podcast, Fox shared how she landed the role in Benny Safdie and Josh Safdie’s 2019 directed thriller starring Adam Sandler.
“People knew who I was. I was like a hood celebrity, and these directors heard about me and wanted to meet me. They were writing a part for this young girl who has kind of a sugar daddy situation. And that movie would go on to become Uncut Gems,” she said. “I auditioned like everyone else. Unfortunately, even though they had written it for me, the studios were like, ‘We don’t know her.’ They wanted like Scarlett Johansson and all these other beautiful women and established actresses.”

Jordan Peele has been amusing audiences for ages as an actor, comedian, and filmmaker, all in one, and he isn’t done leaving everyone baffled just yet. For one, he is all set to return to the screens with what seems like another masterpiece with his upcoming sports-horror flick Him, after his smash-hit horror-sci-fi flick from 2022, Nope.
Considering all the Academy Awards and Primetime Emmys, among other major accolades, that he has bagged to date for his contribution to the horror and comedy genres, this forthcoming movie from Peele might as well be expected to leave minds blown as well. That said, here’s all we know about the same so far.

It seems like Dwayne Johnson is saying goodbye to his days of solely being known as an action hero and embracing his new acting era. He recently worked with A24 on the Mma movie The Smashing Machine, releasing later this year, and now he will team up with the indie studio once again for a psychological thriller titled Breakthrough.
According to Deadline, the new thriller is from Zeke Goodman, who previously starred in Amazon's short-lived I Know What You Did Last Summer series and the streamer's take on Cruel Intentions.
The film sounds a little bit like some of the other movies we've seen produced by A24, such as The Menu and Opus. It follows "an alienated young man who comes under the influence of a motivational guru, whose intoxicating charm masks his morally questionable methods of manipulation and his own concealed darkness."

Exclusive: Monkeypaw Productions, the production company of Oscar-winning genre maestro Jordan Peele, has undergone layoffs within its development department, multiple sources tell Deadline.
The layoffs have affected Christopher Rosati, Jamal M. Watson and Alex Kim, the company’s three Vice Presidents of Development and Production, as well as four to five junior staffers at the coordinator and assistant levels.
Word of layoffs at Monkeypaw comes ahead of the release of the company’s football-themed horror film Him, one of the most anticipated genre titles of the year, from director Justin Tipping. Aside from economic realities facing the entire industry in this moment, in a time of contraction, the reasoning behind the cuts hasn’t been made clear. Chatter about the company was widespread yesterday, with industry observers expecting that overhead at Monkeypaw had come down following a renegotiation of its overall deal with Universal Studio Group.

Get ready for a new Jordan Peele horror experience that will be sure to leave you sidelined with chills! The upcoming sports horror film, Him, will tackle theaters on September 19, 2025, and the initial footage suggests a nightmare far more sinister than a late-season away game.
Him throws audiences headfirst into the pressure cooker world of professional football, where a promising young quarterback finds himself with a golden ticket: an invitation to train at the isolated, state-of-the-art facility of a legendary, albeit past-his-prime, signal-caller.
The setup hints at a collision of worlds, a blend of the intense sports drama of Friday Night Lights with the claustrophobic dread of Misery, mixed with a touch of the unsettling psychological horror of The Babadook.
The official description paints a grim picture, calling Him a "blood-chilling journey into the inner sanctum of fame, power, and the pursuit of excellence at any cost." This first look...

Marlon Wayans has a unique training regimen for an upstart football player in the first trailer for the Jordan Peele-produced horror movie Him.
Universal Pictures releases director Justin Tipping’s feature in theaters Sept. 19. Tyriq Withers, Julia Fox, Tim Heidecker, Jim Jefferies, Akeem Hayes and Tierra Whack round out the cast for the movie that debuted its first footage at CinemaCon earlier this month.

What are you willing to sacrifice to be a star? The haunting teaser for the Jordan Peele-produced “Him” shows the blood, sweat, tears, and religious imagery apparently required to give one’s body and soul as a professional athlete.

Universal Pictures’ Him promo material prominently features the fact that Oscar winner Jordan Peele is a producer. That alone is enough to draw in horror fans, and the teaser itself doesn’t disappoint. It asks the question, “What would you sacrifice to become the greatest of all time?” The answer to that question is ultimately, “Everything.”
Him stars Marlon Wayans (Air), Tyriq Withers (Atlanta), Julia Fox (Uncut Gems), Tim Heidecker (Us), and Jim Jefferies (The Jim Jefferies Show). Mma fighter Maurice Greene, hip hop’s Guapdad 4000, and Grammy nominee Tierra Whack make their feature film debuts with the horror film.

First Trailer For Jordan Peele-Produced Horror Movie Him Makes Football And Marlon Wayans Terrifying
Director Jordan Peele has quickly become a brand name through the strength of his original features, but the talented filmmaker has also been putting his clout to good use behind the scenes. His production company Monkeypaw Productions has backed a number of thrilling movies in the genre space, from 2021's "Candyman" to Henry Selick's animated "Wendell & Wild" to Dev Patel's directorial debut "Monkey Man" last year. Next on the docket is a sports/horror hybrid unlike anything we've ever seen before.
The enigmatically-titled "Him" comes from director Justin Tipping and, well, it sure looks like a must-watch movie packed with all sorts of Peele influences. Following two college athletes with their hopes and dreams set on making it big time, the story kicks off right on the cusp of the NFL's annual scouting Combine. When a deranged fan attacks a rising star (played by Tyriq Withers) and he suffers a potentially career-derailing injury,...

It's time to line up for the snap, because the first trailer for Him is here. Formerly going under the working title Goat, the new film produced by Jordan Peele stitches together football and horror in sinister fashion, all under the direction of Kicks and Joe vs. Carol director Justin Tipping. The project, which centers on a promising young football player (Tyriq Withers) taken under the wing of a legendary quarterback (Marlon Wayans) of a dynasty team nearing the end of his Hall of Fame career, has largely been shrouded in mystery since its announcement. Now, following its appearance at CinemaCon, this first teaser is pulling the curtain back to show general audiences something much freakier than the initial premise promises.
In Him, the gridiron up-and-comer receives an invitation to train at the isolated compound of his predecessor, becoming his protégé. While working closely with his idol seems like a blessing for his career,...

The feature-length adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel, Reminders of Him, is picking up steam, as it’s found its leading man. Tyriq Withers, who fans will recognize from his recurring roles on Hulu’s Tell Me Lies and Paramount+’s The Game, has officially been cast to star opposite Longlegs, and It Follows’ Maika Monroe. The project is set to be helmed by Vanessa Caswill (Love at First Sight), with Hoover working alongside writer Lauren Levine to pen the screenplay. The title marks Withers’ latest pairing with Universal, as audiences are eager to see him appear opposite Marlon Wayans in the Justin Tipping-helmed feature, Him, which is set for a theatrical release later this year.
The project is the latest to come from Hoover’s sprawling catalog of beloved books that are ripe for on-screen picking and has sold over 6 million copies in the United States alone. Reminders...

Universal screens action-packed trailer for Nobody 2, plus a look at Jordan Peele’s Him at CinemaCon
Back in 2021, actor/comedian Bob Odenkirk – who is best known for playing the role of con artist turned lawyer Saul Goodman on the TV series on Breaking Bad and its spin-off Better Call Saul – made the unexpected move of playing Hutch Mansell, retired government assassin in the action thriller Nobody. Doing the unexpected worked out, as Nobody was a success, making $57.5 million at the box office on a budget of $16 million. That was enough to get a sequel greenlit – and Nobody 2, which is scheduled to reach theatres on August 15th, was promoted during the Universal panel at the CinemaCon event today!
The audience was treated to the first trailer for Nobody 2, which finds Hutch taking his family (including Christopher Lloyd) on vacation. The trailer even uses the song Holiday Road from National Lampoon’s Vacation. While there, Hutch’s daughter is getting picked on, Hutch’s son intervenes, which...

The Monkeypaw-produced Him was a mystery no longer as of Wednesday at CinemaCon, where the first trailer for the Justin Tipping-directed sports horror movie was shown.
The movie starring Marlon Wayans, Tyriq Withers, Julia Fox and Tim Heidecker follows a promising young football player who joins an isolated compound to train under a dynasty team’s aging quarterback. From the trailer, which has Wayans’ acerbic coach’s voice-over, it appears it’s some sort of Satanic compound with goat images, people drench in blood and alluring, scantily clad women.
The first look shows football stadium with Wayans’ v.o.: “Do you want this? I said, do you want this? Training, lifting, running, sweating, intense. Talent is how hard you are willing to work, no days off, mostly we grind. I am never good enough. I am never good enough.” Two helmeted players knock heads. And things get weird,...

“It’s a sports movie with a twist,” Wayans said.
The teaser starts in a loud stadium. Footage shows two football players training and challenging each before two helmets collide. A series of quick cuts ensue. “What are you willing to sacrifice,” Wayan’s character says.
Both football players come face to to face: “Show me,” Wayans said.
The film stars Marlon Wayans, Tyriq Withers, Julia Fox, Tim Heidecker, Jim Jefferies and hip-hop stars Guapdad 4000 and Tierra Whack, both in their feature film debuts. Justin Tipping directed the project.

Him stars Marlon Wayans and Tyriq Withers hit the CinemaCon stage to toss around details about their new football-themed horror film.
The pair kicked things off by pretending to still be in character, with Wayans exerting his authority over his younger co-star. “Did I say it was time to talk, Withers?” Wayans quipped. “Drop down and give me 20.”
Wayans jokingly likened their Justin Tipping-helmed horror feature to a wholesome 1990s sports drama: “It’s kinda like Rudy.” This led Withers to fire back, “It’s nothing at all like Rudy.” Withers added that the film is “something that burrows under the skin.”
In the first-look trailer that has not yet been shared publicly, Wayans’ character says, “You have to ask yourself, ‘What am I willing to sacrifice?'” The footage is filled with references to injury and danger.

Genre filmmakers Eli Roth and Jordan Peele both have new horror productions coming our way. Earlier this month, Roth launched a new media company called The Horror Section (which is open to genre fans joining in as investors), with plans to produce movies, TV shows, games, podcasts, and more. Back in 2022, Get Out, Us, and Nope writer/director Peele‘s production company Monkeypaw Productions acquired the genre film pitch Goat from writers Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie, the plan being that Peele would be producing Goat as part of Monkeypaw’s overall deal with Universal Pictures. The sports-related horror project made its way through production under the title Him last this year, aiming for a September 19, 2025 release date. Now, JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray has spotted posters for Roth’s Horror Section slate and the Peele-produced Him at the CinemaCon event, and those posters can be seen below!

While it is safe to say that the film industry has survived to 2025, one of the greatest casualties of the Hollywood strikes of 2023 has been the entertainment industry’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. The continued push into Hollywood consolidation inevitably leads to debt, which leads to developmental programs and jobs being cut. Warner Bros. Discovery and the Paramount/Skybound merger are only the most recent examples of this.
But one could argue there is also a growing sentiment that media CEOs are simply no longer interested or invested in putting more effort into diversity. Consider it a backlash to the backlashes of 2016 and 2020, the very ones that focused on pushing Hollywood to empower more filmmakers who are women and/or people of color. While the most recent USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative study does not quite show a decline in inclusion, it does reveal that the progress in finding, elevating,...

The 2000s were the golden age of parody comedy films, with genre-specific lampoons taking broad swings at every trope under the sun. Did America need an absurdist distraction during the height of the Bush administration? Perhaps. The kings of the parody genre were unquestionably the Wayans brothers with their first Scary Movie which debuted in 2000. Now, the brothers are returning to the Scary Movie franchise with the sixth installment, after stepping away from the property after Scary Movie 2. During a recent appearance in BigBoy TV, Marlon Wayans gave an update regarding the release of the long-awaited sequel, revealing that Scary Movie 6 is eyeing 2026.

One of the greatest joys of having to live in an otherwise fairly tainted reality is getting to live at the same time as horror visionary and genre-definer Jordan Peele. And luckily for horror fans, the director of modern classics Get Out, Us, and Nope has been graciously lending his talents to other filmmakers of the genre through his production company, Monkeypaw. While having nothing to do with a humanistic AI with a beautiful voice that will make you fall in love with her, the upcoming Universal and Monkeypaw production Him formerly titled Goat directed by Justin Tipping, recently gave audiences a first-look at the production and, as expected, it seems like a promising film.

“Scary Movie,” the comedy franchise that parodied horror movies like “Scream” and “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” is getting rebooted. It’s in the works at Miramax and Paramount, the companies announced Tuesday.
The Wayans brothers are reuniting for the first time in 18 years to write an original script for the restart of the franchise. The Wayans brothers and Rick Alvarez will write and produce.
“Scary Movie” was one of the highest-grossing R-rated horror movies of all time. The film opened at $42.5 million, the biggest opening for an R-rated horror movie and a Black director at that time.
The Scary Movie film franchise was developed by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans. Keenen Ivory Wayans wrote and directed the first two films. Marlon and Shawn wrote and starred in the first two films. This will be the sixth film in the franchise.

The Wayans brothers are teaming up for the first time in years to help bring their Scary Movie franchise back to life.
Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans are returning to the film series to pen the script for the new project that was announced earlier this year at CinemaCon. Known for satirizing horror flicks, the Scary Movie franchise launched with the first movie hitting theaters in 2000 and spawned four sequels.
Keenen Ivory Wayans wrote and directed the original Scary Movie and its 2001 follow-up, while Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans wrote and starred in those initial two movies. Paramount Pictures will handle global distribution for the forthcoming title through their first-look deal with producer Miramax, which distributed the first three features.
The three Wayans brothers will write and produce the new one with Rick Alvarez. The sixth title in the franchise begins shooting next year ahead of a planned theatrical release.

Back in 2022, Get Out, Us, and Nope writer/director Jordan Peele‘s production company Monkeypaw Productions acquired the genre film pitch Goat from writers Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie, the plan being that Peele would be producing Goat as part of Monkeypaw’s overall deal with Universal Pictures. The sports-related horror project made its way through production under the title Him earlier this year, and now – even though the movie won’t be reaching theatres until September 19, 2025 – the finished product has been given its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. Him has been rated R for strong/bloody violence, language throughout, sexual material, nudity and some drug use.
Justin Tipping – who made his feature directorial debut with the 2016 drama Kicks – directed the film, with lead roles going to Marlon Wayans (Scary Movie), Tyriq Withers (The Game), and Julia Fox (Uncut Gems).
