HorRHIFFic 2025: ‘Horror-Scopes Volume 3: Dark Zodiac’ Review
Image
Stars: James Wren, Annabelle Rich, Mia Gill, Liam Prince Donnelly, Eve Oliver, Judith Haley-Lindwall, Rhydian Edbow, Abigail Hunt, Dani Thompson, Abayomi Oniyde, Nikolas Savvides, Robyn Adams, Ryan Haughey, Eliza Leonard, William Marshall, Ramanpreet Brar | Directed by Mj Dixon, Davin Jeayes, Tony Sands, Maria Lee Metheringham, Philip Rogers, Dani Thompson, Luna Wold, Richard Fish, Anna Dixon, Martin W Payne, Richard Elson, Andre Harrison

Horror-Scopes Volume 3: Dark Zodiac is the second in a series of annual anthology collections from independent film studio Mycho, which brings together multiple indie horror talents to tell twelve terrifying tales of, this time around, “dark zodiac” based horoscopes, encountering fate’s dark side: misfortune, fear, and terror.

First up on the zodiac is Aries and the tale is Oppressor: The Warlord, which is a series of talking heads following a number of doctors trying to cure a virus (think the 2020 pandemic) but each failing, and dying,...

Wrath of Thorn is the latest, and reportedly last, instalment in the Mychoverse series that spun out of the original Slasher House movie – itself now a franchise. This time round Dixon delves much, much, deeper into the lore surrounding the slasher-movie-inspired killer known as Thorn – intertwining past and present, flitting between the three films in the series to shed light on Thorn’s origins while propelling the narrative into uncharted territories. This duality not only enriches the storyline but also offers a fresh perspective for those long-time fans who’ve been following the Thorn franchise since 2014.

One of the standout aspects of the film is its character development. The protagonist,...

Image
Stars: Redd Nicholson, Carley Halse, Paris Rivers, Luna Wolf, Lewis Cooper, Cy Henty, Aileen Daly, Pauline Per, Nicholas Vince, Dani Thompson, Jack Glanville | Written and Directed by Mj Dixon

British independent film company Mycho, made up of Mj Dixon and Anna Dixon – the husband and wife filmmaking team behind the Mycho Entertainment Group brand; are back with the third film in the Slasher House series – a film that spawned an entire Universe of movies, dubbed the Mychoverse, which includes the likes of Pandamonium, The Haunting of Molly Bannister (aka Bannister DollHouse) and the Thorn and Cleaver franchises.

Now I’ll be honest, despite having seen both Pandamonium and The Haunting of Molly Bannister, both of which are spin-offs from the second film in the Slasher House series. A film where Molly Bannister first made her appearance, as did the killer from Pandamonium. The fact that I hadn’t seen the...

Image
In his latest interview from this year’s Romford Horror Film Festival, Kevin sits down with eleven(!) members of the cast and crew of the new British horror anthology Video Shop Tales of Terror.

Six terrifying tales emanate from a sinister video shop in this British retro anthology movie and loving tribute to the 1980s VHS era. Every tale is handled by a respected indie horror director: Mj Dixon (Pandamonium), Sam Mason-Bell (Acting), Ciao Handy (Tales from the Great War), Alexander Churchyard (I Scream on the Beach!), Tom Lee Rutter (Day of the Stranger) and Michael Fausti (Exit). With faux trailers from Geoff Harmer (Dead Air) & Tony Mardon (The Witches of the Sands). Immerse yourself in two hours of retro horror nostalgia, from a bunch of people who love the era as much as you do! This is an anthology horror in the classic style of horror studios from the past but with a twist.

An anthology of tales paying the ultimate homage to the 70/80s Video Nasty Tromaesque-era, from a team of some of the best writers/directors in the lower budget UK horror scene. A carefully curated selection of shorts all with varying degrees of depravity broken up by a wrap around story of the Video Dungeon, all delightfully introduced by Brit Scream Queen royalty Dani Thompson (putting in a number of roles throughout). Anthology movies do seem to be making somewhat of a comeback as of late and have a bit of a tendency of “trying too hard...

Stars: Tiana Rogers, Susan Lee Burton, Emmeline Hartley, Grant Kempster, Chloe Badham, Bam Goodall, Liza Keast, Jake Kempster, Paul Rogers | Written and Directed by Mj Dixon

Following the DVD debuts of likes of Cleavers and Pandamonium, The Haunting of Molly Bannister (formerly known as Bannister DollHouse) is the latest release from the British independent film company Mycho, made up of Mj Dixon and Anna Dixon – the husband and wife filmmaking team behind the Mycho Entertainment Group brand; whose deal with 101 Films to get their titles out to a wider, horror-hungry UK audience is really working it seems – this is another Mycho title that has hit the DVD charts in shops (and supermarkets) across the UK.

The Haunting of Molly Bannister is apparently a spin-off from the Slasher House series and already the subject of a short film. I say apparently as I haven’t seen Slasher House 2, where Molly...

With an oversized Panda mask and a taste for exotic dancers Jacob ends up at a party held by Killmore & Percival, a firm of work hard, party harder city types. Horror-on-Sea 2018 Interview: Mj Dixon on ‘Mask of Thorn’
Mask of Thorn is a throwback to the classic 80 slashers from writer and director Mj Dixon, which has been selected to play at the Horror-on-Sea Film Festival on Friday 19th January. I got chance to ask Mj a few questions about the continuing legacy of Thorn, his influences in horror and what else is coming in the ever expanding Mycho horror universe.

What can we expect from the film?

I guess it’s hard to say without giving too much away, but we usually try to take the classic slasher formula that the Mychoverse is built on and then turn it upside down and at least approach it from a very different angle. We’re not really interested in making the same film again and again, so it was important find a fresh way to tell the next part of the story. I guess the influences for the film were...

10 Terrifying Horror Films That Haunted Your 2015
Dark Sky Films

It’s hard to remember a time when the cinematic horror genre was in safer hands. The last few years have seen some phenomenal young talent come to the fore, with newer creative forces like the Soska sisters, Danielle Harris and Britain’s own Mj Dixon mixing it up with older genre mainstays like James Wan and Guillermo Del Toro.

This isn’t just a showcase of the best horror movies of 2015, however. Here, I’m interested in more than just jump cuts, possession storylines, pointless torture porn or generic stalk n’ slash movies. No, these are the films that rabbit punched you in the brain when you weren’t looking, and then stayed with you afterwards like bad dinner guests, stealing your whisky and starting fights with the dog.

2013 gave us the eerily macabre Lords Of Salem, the uneasily brutal Maniac remake and the fresh, exciting You’re Next.

Slasher House Trailer: $8000 Worth Of Scares
Here at Cinema Blend, we pay a lot of attention to films like Man of Steel and The Hangover Part III, which might both turn out to be really great films, but will probably be just okay flicks that cost a lot of money to make a lot of money. There are a lot of expectations involved with these films, and promotional campaigns that only end when the films have long since been released on DVD and Blu-ray. But for a no frills horror flick like Slasher House, the expectations don.t even exist enough to be low. As such, we can just stand back and gleefully show you guys the above U.S. trailer in all of its ridiculously gory glory, courtesy of Dread Central, and then we can move on with our lives.
