Michael Bay is in talks to direct Will Smith in the Netflix action film Fast and Loose, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Fast and Loose focuses on a crime boss who loses his memory after an attack and gradually learns that he was leading a double life as a CIA agent. Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner and Eric Pearson worked on the screenplay. Jon and Erich Hoeber wrote the original script after selling their pitch to Netflix.

The movie has been in the works since before Smith’s infamous slap of Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars ceremony. THR previously reported that David Leitch had exited the project the week before the fated Academy Awards telecast to start work on The Fall Guy, the Ryan Gosling-Emily Blunt action-comedy feature that Universal released in May.

Producers for Fast and Loose include Leitch and Kelly McCormick for 87North, along with Smith.

Nearly 30 years after “Bad Boys” hit theaters, Will Smith and Michael Bay are eyeing a reunion. Bay is in negotiations to direct the action flick “Fast and Loose” for Netflix, with Smith set to star.

“Fast and Loose” follows a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories. As he pieces together his past, he learns he’s been living two lives: one as a crime kingpin and the other as an undercover CIA agent.

Netflix has optioned the upcoming sci-fi thriller novel Change Agent.

Written by Daemon scribe Daniel Suarez, Change Agent follows an Interpol agent who has suffered a genetic attack that leaves him looking like the dangerous cartel leader he has been ordered to bring down.  

Josh Bratman will produce under his Immersive Pictures banner, which is currently working on another book adaptation, Max Brooks' Harlem Hellfighters with Will Smith's Overbrook Entertainment.

ICM repped the novel, which Penguin Random House will release on April 18.

A fresh report suggests that the divisions between director Tim Miller and the rest of the Deadpool 2 team were deep...

It was certainly one of the more surprising film stories of the year when, over the weekend, it was revealed that director Tim Miller had quit Deadpool 2. Miller had been an integral part of the key quartet – himself, writers/producers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and star Ryan Reynolds – that had finally managed to get Deadpool to the big screen. They were rewarded with very sizeable box office returns back at the start of the year.

However, a few more details have seeped through as to just why Miller walked away from the sequel. Initially, it was said to be to do with Ryan Reynolds...

In a Deadline exclusive, we learned over the weekend that Director Tim Miller is exiting the Deadpool 2 project after creative differences with star, Ryan Reynolds.  The news comes as a shock to all of us, as there were no public indications of any kind of turmoil.  As for the reason for the creative differences, 20th Century Fox and all those involved aren't saying much.

While it sounds very dramatic, sources confirmed that there is no ill-will between Miller, Reynolds, and Fox.  In fact, the departure actually frees Miller to begin working on Fox's next assignment Influx, an adaptation of the Daniel Suarez novel set to become a trilogy.

Miller exiting can also be a good thing for Deadpool 2.

One thing is for certain. Deadpool 2 won't be the same kind of movie as Deadpool, as the sequel has lost a key ingredient in the first movie's success. Director Tim Miller has exited the project. While Ryan Reynolds is certainly the mouthpiece for the Merc with the Mouth, Deadpool's success was built on the backs of four individuals over the course of ten years. And it was a truly collaborative effort between Reynolds, Miller and the two screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The next one won't be that.

Though it was widely reported that Tim Miller was coming back to helm Deadpool 2, the director never officially signed onto the movie. He had been helping to develop the script, and it certainly seemed as though he would be back.

Paramount Pictures has set Walter Parkes and David Digilio to adapt Daniel Suarez's upcoming techno thriller novel Daemon.

According to Variety, Daemon harkens back to WarGames in its exploration of themes of man vs. machine.

The project centers on an iconic game designer who, before he died, set up a program to fight mankind. The book is set to be published in January, and it is expected to spawn a sequel.
