Also paints and draws, makes his own Indian and English bows, authentic 18th century clothing and weaponry. He is also a huge Star Trek TOS fan.

One of his favorite writers is Edgar Rice Burroughs.

His mother and father encouraged him to go to Hollywood and take a shot at acting. He chose music instead. After becoming disenchanted with the music scene, he spent 4 years in the Air Force followed by 20 years as a police officer. It wasn't until his police career was drawing to an close that he entered the acting world.

Started out his entertainment career as a drummer and is credited with being amongst the forerunners of the Chicago punk scene in the 80s. He still plays the drums for a little while everyday. He has also picked up some guitar and bass guitar skills along the way.

Grew up as a military brat. His father retired from the Air Force as a Colonel. Jed and his older brother, Eric also spent time in the Air Force. Jed spent 4 years as an SP. Eric followed in their father's footsteps and retired as Colonel. He has another brother, Ronald, who is a doctor, a younger brother Andy and two sisters who live in Hawaii.
