The town of Blairstown, New Jersey was used as the stand-in for the fictional town of Crystal Lake during the filming of director Sean S. Cunningham’s 1980 classic Friday the 13th – and now, the cast and crew of the Peacock TV series Crystal Lake are filming in the same town, making this the first Friday the 13th project to use Blairstown as Crystal Lake since the original movie! Pictures from the set can be seen below.

If you’ve ever whispered “Kill her, Mommy” under your breath while chopping vegetables, this one’s for you.
For fans of the original Friday the 13th — especially those of us who worship the first two films — Peacock’s upcoming series Crystal Lake might be the most exciting horror revival on the horizon. And while it’s taken a few machete swings behind the scenes, the project is alive, bloody, and officially filming in New Jersey.
Here’s everything we know so far about the return to the woods that started it all…

2025 marks the 45th anniversary of the release of one of the most popular horror movies ever made, Friday the 13th, the movie that launched my favorite franchise, and one that I feel is underrated, as it’s a great film that often gets overshadowed by its sequels. Last year, the Friday the 13th franchise rights holders at Horror Inc. announced that they were launching the Jason Universe, which would encompass “new Friday the 13th activations that will span a wide range of platforms from entertainment, games, immersive experiences, merchandise and more to be announced @JasonUniverse13 on social media or by visiting the official Jason Universe website.” Now, they’ve shared some information on what’s ahead for the franchise at a San Diego Comic-Con panel, unveiling a teaser trailer for the vignette Sweet Revenge from writer/director Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn) and a panel-exclusive message from the set of Crystal Lake,...

Jason lives…again. Everyone’s favorite sex-hating, machete-wielding, unstoppable supernatural serial killer is coming to the small screen in his first TV series, Crystal Lake, a prequel to the Friday the 13th franchise – but he will not be quite as monstrous as you remember him. After more than a decade in limbo, the franchise that wanted to tap into the slasher vein opened by several 70s movies, including the mostly slash-free Halloween, is finally overcoming its torrid legal battles and actually producing more content. And the A24 series has now secured its new Jason Voorhees actor.
Unlike his nightmare-making sparring partner, Freddy Krueger, Jason has always been interchangeable when it comes to who plays him thanks to his hockey mask and increasingly decomposed face. However, everyone has their favorite Jason, with many citing Kane Hodder as the best person to ever embody the character after playing in four movies and a video game.

Deadline (via FearHQ.com) has revealed that A24's Crystal Lake TV series has found its Jason Voorhees in Chucky and Long Bright River star Callum Vinson. The actor, born in 2014, will play the child version of the terrifying serial killer, as the show shifts the spotlight to his mother, Linda Cardellini's Pamela Voorhees.
It's previously been reported that Pamela will be portrayed as a mother who gave up a singing career to raise a special needs child. Things take a dark turn when Jason drowns at summer camp—the titular "Crystal Lake"—prompting Pamela to go on a killing spree, making the camp counsellors pay for their negligence.
However, when the young Jason witnesses one of the camp counsellors decapitating his mom, he's inspired to go on a murder spree of his own. There's a supernatural element to the character, but it's thought he survived that apparent drowning...

The new Jason Voorhees has just been cast. A young version of the character is set to be featured in the upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake, and the new Jason is among a handful of additions just revealed as new cast members.
Per Deadline, Callum Vinson is set to portray Jason Voorhees in Crystal Lake. Notably, Vinson is being billed as a "recurring guest star," as Jason is not expected to be the main focus of the series. Crystal Lake primarily follows his mother, Pamela Voorhees, with Linda Cardellini in the role.

The Friday the 13th prequel series that’s in the works at Peacock with A24, just slashed out of the woods with a major update. Deadline reports that Callum Vinson, best known for his role as Henry Collins in the Chucky franchise, has joined the cast of Crystal Lake as a young Jason Vorhees. Vinson’s role will reportedly be in the guest capacity, featuring only briefly — the project is about Jason’s mother, Pamela Vorhees. Linda Cardellini has been tapped to play the featured role of Pamela in the series. The new show is set in Crystal Lake, and it will follow Pamela as she goes on a violent killing spree after watching her son drown in the lake. Jason watches his mother lose her head to end her killing spree, which is what leads him down his own murderous path.

Crystal Lake, the Friday the 13th prequel series taking shape at Peacock, has cast the actor playing Jason — who will not be fitted with a hockey mask anytime soon.
Callum Vinson (Long Bright River, The Night Agent) will play the young Jason in the show. He’s one of five actors who have joined the cast in recurring roles, along with Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch and Phoenix Parnevik.
The A24-produced Crystal Lake stars Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees, Jason’s mother, who (45-year-old spoiler alert) is responsible for the killings in the first Friday the 13th movie before her unkillable son Jason takes over. William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom will also be series regulars, playing characters named Levon Brooks, Briana Brooks, Dorf and Grace. Details about those characters and the show’s plot are being kept quiet.
Cordileone (Warrior) will play a character named Ralph.
