Occupy Cannes Photo: Fantasia International Film Festival
“Thank you for paying attention to Troma,” says Lloyd Kaufman, sincerely, when we meet at the 2025 Fantasia International Film Festival. I find it difficult to understand how one could do otherwise – whatever one might think of it, it has a way of getting noticed. in fact, its guerilla marketing tactics are among the subjects of Lily Hayes Kaufman’s new documentary, Occupy Cannes, which the three of us, along with star Catherine Corcoran, are ostensibly here to talk about. But with Lloyd in the room, conversations have a tendency to wander.
As we get comfortable, I remind him of our last meeting, many years ago in Edinburgh, when its film festival coincided with its wider festival. His wife (Patricia Swinney Kaufman) had been very excited about attending that. He apologises that she hasn’t been able to join the team at Fantasia, explaining that she had to go.

In the independent film community, few names are as iconic as Troma Entertainment, the famously scrappy production company behind films like The Toxic Avenger and Class of Nuke ‘Em High. The company’s latest film, Occupy Cannes, is a documentary following the Troma Team as they headed to Cannes in 2013 to promote the premiere of Return to Nuke ‘Em High Vol. 1, only to run into opposition from the establishment… and the authorities.
Timed to the film’s 2025 Fantasia International Film Festival world premiere, FandomWire got the opportunity to speak with Occupy Cannes director Lily-Hayes Kaufman and its subjects, legendary Troma Entertainment founder Lloyd Kaufman and Return to Nuke ‘Em High and Terrifier actress Catherine Corcoran, about the future of independent film in the face of increasing restrictions. Check out the interview here:

If you missed San Diego Comic-Con, then you missed the first teaser and panel to David Ferino’s Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence.
In this first clip we meet adolescent prodigy, and genius CEO of VegIntel, inventor of “MyTomato,” the vegetable which will solve all our problems, particularly those that A.I. can’t fix.
The fifth movie in the 47-year old franchise is “pitting the eternal power of nature against AI’s best and brightest.”
The original movie was released in 1978. Made for $100,000, it was produced by J. Stephen Peace and John DeBello. DeBello directed the pic based on an original idea by Costa Dillon in a story about mutated killer tomatoes that torment the globe as a group of scientists try to fend them off.

We’ve been hearing rumblings of a reboot of the Attack of the Killer Tomatoes franchise for a long time. Seventeen years, in fact. The new Killer Tomatoes movie unveiled a promo video over the weekend (you can watch that in the embed above) and also has a presence at San Diego Comic-Con, where JoBlo’s own Mike Conway was able to catch up with several cast members and one of the producers!

If you had killer tomatoes on your 2025 bingo card, you're in luck. The beloved cult classic franchise that began in 1978 is back with a new sequel titled Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence, which promises to "pit the eternal power of nature against AI's best and brightest." Directed by David Ferino, this will be the first feature film in the franchise since 1992, and the fifth overall in the zany series that mixes horror, comedy, and parody.
Perhaps the best part of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence is its amazing cast, which includes the likes of David Koechner (Anchorman) as the U.S. president's Press Secretary, and Catherine Corcoran (Terrifier) as the film's first victim. John Astin (Gomez from The Addams Family) is also on board to reprise his role of Professor Nicholas Mortimer Gangreen from previous movies, as is Oscar-nominee Eric Roberts. Things didn’t go well for Catherine Corcoran when she crossed paths with Art the Clown in Terrifier, but here’s hoping that things will turn out better for her character in the supernatural thriller The Block, which our friends at Bloody Disgusting report recently wrapped production. Production has wrapped on a new supernatural thriller titled The Block, with the cast including Jackie Earle Haley (A Nightmare on Elm Street) and Catherine Corcoran (Terrifier).
Jack Falahee (How to Get Away with Murder), Chris Noth (Sex and the City) and Saphira Moran are also set to star in The Block, directed by Emmy nominee Craig Singer (6:45).
The film follows Mitch James (Falahee), who was once the golden boy of horror fiction, until an unshakable writer’s block brought his meteoric rise to a halt. Years later, with his career in ruins, Mitch stumbles into a dark and inexplicable event, after which, the words begin to flow again.
But inspiration proves fleeting and something shadowy and malevolent seems to be demanding more in return. As Mitch becomes entangled in a chilling cycle of creation and consequence, the true cost of his craft may be far greater than he ever imagined.

Our distribution label Dread helped launch Art the Clown as a pop culture icon with the release of Terrifier. The success of the first feature paved the way for a franchise that’s showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, the series’ third installment grossed roughly $90 million at the global box office, even claiming the top spot during its opening weekend. With a strong showing like that, it’s no surprise that the films have some high-profile fans. Among said fans is Doctor Sleep director Mike Flanagan.
Flanagan keeps a record of his favorite horror films on Letterboxd, and I’m pleased to report that Terrifier claims a coveted spot on that list. Flanagan came to prominence as an indie filmmaker and has often been supportive of other scrappy creators like Terrifier’s Damien Leone. As for what Flanagan digs about Terrifier, perhaps he’s taken with the visceral sendoffs,...

Art the Clown has become one of the most unexpected and shocking horror icons of modern cinema in the Terrifierfranchise. However, he was around long before he became the record-breaking masochistic killer audiences have come to love in his three movies, but a gut-wrenching moment involving actress Catherine Corcoran and a hacksaw turned him into one of the most unpredictable villains to have graced screens in years. Now, almost a decade after being murdered in the most brutal and graphic way possible, the actress has reflected on her part in making the unrated killer a worldwide phenomenon.
Corcoran is hosting the first episode of Shout! TV’s Double Take on March 21, which features two movies in honor of Women’s History Month, and ahead of that she spoke to ComingSoon about working on Damien Leonie’s Terrifer and how it became something so much more than it was ever meant to be.

Art the Clown. He’s a homicidal maniac. He’s a supernatural being. He’s disgusting. He’s amusing. He’s the latest cinematic madman to be added to the ranks of genre icons. And he’s been around longer than you might realize. He’s been lurking around for a couple of decades. His breakthrough moment came with the 2016 movie Terrifier – and we’re going to examine that film… and the bad clown at the heart of it all… with this episode of What Happened to This Horror Movie?
Writer/director Damien Leone first brought Art the Clown into the world with a short film called The 9th Circle, which was shot in 2006.The story centers on a young woman who’s creeped out by a strange clown in a train station. The clown ends up attacking her, delivering her to a coven of witches that are in direct contact with Satan himself.

Catherine Corcoran’s character Dawn was at the center of one of the most famous moments in the slasher movie Terrifier (a scene she reflected on a while back) – but Terrifier wasn’t her first credit in a genre movie, and she has gone on to work on several more genre movies since the release of that killer clown movie, including Faceless After Dark, which reunited her with Terrifier co-star Jenna Kanell. Corcoran is also co-host of the nightmare-themed podcast Scream Dreams. Now, Deadline reports that Corcoran has signed on to star in the thriller Jackalope alongside Alex Mandel (Killer Holiday), who happens to be the son of Howie Mandel, and Bryce Hirschberg of the Netflix dating show Too Hot to Handle.
Hirschberg, who made his feature writing and directorial debut with the 2017 drama Counterfeiters, will also be directing Jackalope from a screenplay he has written with producer and director of photography David Klassen.

First appearing in 2016 and the latest installment hitting theaters this year, the Terrifier franchise has been a success among horror fans with its scenes of unrelenting violence and chief antagonist, Art the Clown. The series is a saving grace for many fans who have been craving the type of escapism and macabre awe that seems to have been missing from the slasher genre. Up until recently, many fans voiced their discontent regarding many offerings that are tame in comparison and lack the operatic levels of violence that the Terrifier franchise is so unapologetic in depicting.
On the one hand, the series deserves praise for its use of practical effects and carnage that have reportedly traumatized some members of the viewing audience. The Terrifier franchise has found a fan base who crave violence and enjoy the feeling of being shocked. Beyond this surface level of visceral imagery and attempted transgression, there exists little else.

"Terrifier 3" spoilers follow.
No one goes to a slasher flick looking for a deathly serious drama about an unstoppable killing machine who offs their victims in wildly inventive fashion. The point of every slasher movie that sprung up in the wake of trailblazers like "Psycho," "Black Christmas" and "Halloween" is to give fright-seeking viewers a Grand Guignol good time at the movies. Granted, some slashers can blend serious themes into their stalk-and-kill-a-thon structures (Joseph Zito's "The Prowler" offers up tough commentary about America's post-war treatment of its veterans), but those movies know to lighten up when it comes to delivering the splatter.
This is a lesson filmmaker Damien Leone has learned well. The twisted creator of the "Terrifier" franchise and its greasepaint-slathered antagonist Art the Clown grew up a fan of slashers, and knows full well what sickos like him are looking for out of the genre. They...

When All Hallow’s Eve was released back in 2013, I doubt many of us thought we’d be getting a whole franchise out of the creepy miming clown. Yet we just saw the release of the third entry in the Terrifier franchise–and it’s set at Christmas! So we here at JoBlo wanted to take a look back on the series and see where exactly they fall in terms of quality. Because it’s the rare series that seems to “level up” with each entry, always improving upon the production in some way. Though, they’ve always had the blood and guts handled pretty well. After all, if there’s one thing the series is known for: it’s the gore. But there are also some great characters and shocking moments that give each film their distinct personalities. So let’s see where they fall on this, Terrifier Movies...

A couple years ago, Spider One – the frontman of Powerman 5000 and the brother of fellow musician/filmmaker Rob Zombie – made his feature directorial debut with the horror anthology Allegoria. Now we have learned that Spider One is already working on his fourth feature film, Big Baby, which has Terrifier‘s Catherine Corcoran and Terrifier 3‘s Krsy Fox in the cast and counts Cher as an executive producer.

Faceless After Dark opens with a warning about the film’s use of strobing lights, and immediately we see Bowie sitting staring at the camera as neon purple lights flash on her face as the image grows progressively smaller and unintelligible voices babble louder and louder. That and several long, eye-straining montages scattered through the film make the warning more than justified
Next we see her armed with a machete making her way through a human butcher shop, only to be confronted by the killer clown responsible for the carnage. And then mid-fight, she stops and complains about having to deliver the line, “Haven’t you heard, the circus left town bitch!”

Justin Janowitz’s spellbinding feature debut, Do Not Watch, follows the tradition of cursed footage like 2018’s Antrum or 2022’s Incantation. Subliminal messages are baked into Ryan Toyama’s screenplay and imprinted onto the screen. Traditional barriers between screens and their audiences are shattered; characters plead with us to do what the title commends. Do Not Watch isn’t without shortcomings, but tantalizes as an innovative reinvention of found footage capabilities.
Toyama’s screenplay bounces between multiple timelines infected by the same film canister. An introductory info dump reads: “What you are about to witness is a compilation of the events surrounding the disappearance of a post-production crew as they worked on research footage from the 1980s.” Clips cycle around the mentioned post-production crew who works at Illusion Post, the supposed cursed footage of researchers in a bunker from the ‘80s, and the documentarians trying to unearth the truth about...
