Kim Hyun-joong is a practicing Roman Catholic and enjoys a good reputation as a philanthropist, supporting many causes including national disaster relief efforts in other countries.

He can play many different instruments, such as guitar, piano, bass guitar, drums.

Hyun-joong is well-known for being a very heavy sleeper, and is able to sleep almost anywhere. He is known to be very difficult to wake up once asleep.

He is afraid of bugs, but likes fishing and playing soccer.

He and his childhood friends co-own a chicken restaurant chain called "Jaksal Chicken".
